I Have a DG834N Router and find it very reliable although it does need a reboot every now and then to shorten the round trip times in Wireless but in general i find i have the best coverage i've ever had with any of my Routers
Pre-N i'd stear clear of i had the DG834 & the Belkin Pre-N & in my experiance it was worse than my old DG834GT which was super reliable and gave me good coverage too so if your looking for cheap i'd recomend the DG834GT for Better Speeds & Coverage it has to be the N version
As for gaming on Wireless i'd say forget it Pings are a joke on wireless if you want to game as i do stick to wires !
on to my Last suggestion ever considered changing ISP? Tiscali are known as one of the worst ISP's out there Personnaly i'm with BE who offer fantastic speeds & have a package coming out called "BE Value" today which is 8Mb Broadband & Unlimited Downloads for £14 a month it's a great service & a top price too + you get a FREE wireless router as well ! Just an idea better service + free router but you do need to check they are in your area on there site though as they aren't enabled on all exchanges yet but if they are i'd highly recomend them0 -
Thanks for that PistonBroke. I currently use the LINKSYS Wireless-G WAG54G at home, and it works fine, even for online gaming funnily enough, pings aren't too bad.
but since I personally (and not the rest of my family) are moving out, my flatmates and I needed a new broadband connection and router etc. We're going to go with https://www.fast.co.uk have heard very good things about them. and I'm also tempted just to buy another LINKSYS Wireless-G WAG54G since I know it well and it did the job nicely last time. Unless there's a particular router you'd feel very strongly about? In which case I'd be greatful to take a look at it.
Having read this thread and spoken to some people it seems to me that the N-routers give you greater coverage and speed, but that's only useful for wireless networks, as opposed to home users sharing a broadband connection, which is what my flatmates and I will be doing. I very much doubt we'd be setting up a wireless network to share files between us. and the rooms are fairly close together so we dont have a great need for extended coverage. does that make sense to you?0
