Not much good cheapskate! You need an ADSL router don't you? One day maybe!
Please explain why I am a cheapskate. This is a money saving website, so why shouldn't I buy something that works and pay less for it because someone else is discarding it?
Albertross - thanks for that, hadn't spotted that.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Because you said that you are a cheapskate. You could have bought it and then found out that it was no use to you! Very money saving!

True, but I'm asking advice on here as I'm aware that I know nothing about routers.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Aaah, just the thread..
I have a wireless router at home since we have a laptop and a desktop and want a wireless network at home. I have the LINKSYS Wireless-G WAG54G one and it has done the trick for us.
BUT, I'm moving out and sharing a flat with friends and would like to do the same there. BUT, I've heard something about loads of different and new types of wireless router, such as:
Wireless G MIMO, A+G, PRE-N, N and N1..??
From what I understood was that they increased range etc, but I'm not so sure so could someone shed some light on this? The wireless network would be used to share an internet connection only, and not to have a wireless network to share files between computers (though if this could be setup too then that might be useful, but not essential).
So would any of these "superior" router types have any effect/benefit on the broadband internet speed/connection? and if not, then what benefits might they have anyway?
Thanks a lot! :T Much appreciated!
edit:
ps, I do enjoy online gaming and p2p downloading, in case any of these router types may aid them! :-)0 -
They are just later versions with better range, better PC to PC speed, but more expensive. They won't speed your internet connection up. For average use, in the average house, you won't notice any difference, apart from less money in your pocketEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

cool, thanks for that, i expected as much.
one last thing. I read somewhere that the latest routers are better for "online gaming", would that be only for LAN gaming? (as opposed to proper online gaming over the internet.)
thanks!0 -
I am not aware of any benefits related to online gaming with the latest routers, but ready to be corrected.
Bottom line is that you are probably on an 8 meg connection or less, and and 54G router exceeds that speed easily.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
brilliant. thanks for that.0
