Hi all

I'm looking to replace my current router for something a bit more up-to date.
Can anyone give me any comments on the following :-
BT Voyager 205 Router
Tornado 810 ADSL Modem Router

Or recommend anything that's not too expensive and is easy to set up.

It's not actually mine - it's on loan as a tester to see what difference it makes to my net access, so I want to replace it so I can hand this one back.

Are you likely to want to use wireless now or in the future?

Can you get a free router from your isp?

  • A lot of people have had problems with the BT Voyager. I don't know anything about the Tornado. You should be ok with the well known brands such as Linksys, Belkin etc.

AVOID BELKIN. Stick with Netgear/Linksys. The netgear DG834 is a good reliable unit.

Wouldn't mind the option of wireless, the same as I have now, but I don't think Tiscali would give me a router.

There are several wireless ones on eBay - if I post some names, would some kind soul give pros/cons as I really don't have a clue about routers?

I normally recommend the dg834G, it is not the cheapest, but very reliable and easy to setup

If you have a bt line, you will need an adsl wireless router, not cable/dsl.

I assume it's a BT line as we used to pay BT but now we pay Tiscali for line rental etc.
Just wanting a (fairly) cheap router to replace my loaner with one that will be fairly future-proof without spending a fortune which is why I'm looking on eBay.

Just seen this on eBay :-

TrendNet site looks good but I can't see any reviews for the model number (unless I'm going blind!)

Having said that, it may be a bit too cheap if you know what I mean.
