John Lewis: Out Of Stock - A Retailers Ploy?

I got frustrated yesterday when I went to place an order with John Lewis. I had been looking for a Samung 40 inch Smart TV and to my disappointment the TV I was after and my fall back, was out of stock
Out of curiosity I had a closer look at the site and discovered that of the ten TV's that JL advertised, that broadly fitted my wants, 4 were out of stock which set me to wondering if this is a deliberate ploy by JL (and other retailers) to encourage us to buy slow moving stock, or stock that they want off their hands
Anyone from John Lewis reading?

Or, it is because it's sale time at John Lewis and they proactively price match and thus lots of people want the same TV that you want?
But no, why not let's just consider it a conspiracy against their customers first before considering a more logical answer.0 -
Well I will admit that I am a conspiracy theorist at heart.
One possible
Two perhaps
Three iffy
Four of the most popular sets ???
Then maybe it's bad stock control, or I'm just plain unlucky0 -
I saw a TV I wanted once and knew how busy the shop was. It went on the website at 9am. I rang at 9.05, "How many have you got?", "We've got 7", "I'll reserve one now, I'm on my way." Arrived at 10am only to be told "Its a good job you reserved one, we've already sold the other 6."0

Its against ASA regulations to advertise goods retailers know are out of stock.

.
Well this was how it was advertised
Samsung UE40H6400 LED HD 1080p 3D Smart TV, 40" with Freeview HD, Voice Control, Built-In Wi-Fi and 2x 3D Glasses ed
Save £20 until 11.01.2016...
Out of stock
Email me when available
£379.00
I'm assuming th at because they said 'out of stock' that keeps them covered, it was out of stock since Christmas.
The product is now back in stock (09/01/2016) but advertised at £399 but I'm wondering if they have given a 'save £20 until the 11.01.2016 does that mean they must sell at that price.until that date?

It is probably a hard to get soon to be discontinued product,as Richer Sounds have it listed as available only in stores .0

Ridiculous conspiracy theory with no foundation whatever.0
