Washing Hair Everyday

My resolution is to break a life long habit and stop washing my hair everyday but its difficult. I have gone to only washing it 4 times a week since 1st January but I really dislike the in between days and I have tried using a bit of dry shampoo but it doesn't feel as good. My hair is just past my shoulders now with layers, it was a lot longer before but I got three inches off three weeks before Christmas.

If it NEEDS washing every day then wash it every day. I used to have to wash my hair daily, till I was about 40! I wash it every 3 days now. I could never have done that when I was young, - I would have looked a right grease-pot, lolleft the forum due to trolling/other nonsense

I have very fine hair which doesn't suit washing every day. After saying that I don't use hair products so my hair doesn't really need to be washed every day anyway.
I think it depends on hair type and personal preference. My mam has curly hair and only washes her hair twice a week. She can't use dry shampoo at all.0 -
I have fine hair but despite being so dry it wont tame even with serum, my scalp seems to itch if I don't wash my hair at least every other day and ideally every day. I hate having to wash my hair so often as it just makes it even drier as the water is very hard where I am and lime is one of the big culprits for dry/damaged hair (along with heat and silicon based products).
I have noticed that some shampoos are worse than others; shampoos which offer to fix or repair any damage often have proteins in and will add product to your hair which can mean your hair ends up feeling weighed down and as if you need to wash your hair soon.
Similarly smoothing shampoos/conditioners and products for frizzy hair will do similar.
Volumising shampoos can often use alcohol or acidic type ingredients which may work to give hair a boost but can also irritate scalps and mean you feel you need to wash your hair again. That's not to say all are like this, but a quick scan of what's inside can often tell you if a product has any added irritants in to be wary of.
Dry shampoo TBH I've never had any luck with; if anything is going to make my hair itch it's Baptise! I thought the Aussie dry shampoo was marginally better but still no match for having cleaned hair and not something I do often because of this.
Don't forget leave-in products often can make hair feel weighed down and as if you want to wash your hair. Try to keep leave-in products at the lengths and ends of your hair and not at the root no matter how tempting it feels as it does pay off to not do that.
Also watch the heat you use when drying your hair as this can irritate your scalp and mean your body produces a little more sebum and natural oils to combat the heat and dryness which again, will leave you feeling you need to wash your hair sooner than otherwise.
I think it's quite difficult getting into a new pattern with washing hair. I used to wash my hair every day but it looked so frizzy and to be honest I just don't have the time to wash and style my hair every night. It's taken me about 2 years to get to a pattern of washing my hair every other day and yet it still feels like I need to wash my hair every day! It has taken me a lot of determination to stick to every other day anyway!0 -
Do what feels right for your hair. I wash mine every 4/5 days but I know I could leave it a day or so longer and it'll be fine. I tend to wash it a day earlier because I enjoy styling it.My debt free diary

I have very fine thin hair and have to wash mine every day, my hairdresser told me not to do this, but I cant go to work with my hair looking how it does when not washed, tried dry shampoo but does nothing, The only day I don't wash it now is a Sunday as I don't go out usually, but it irritate me all day and glad to get it washed on the Monday.0

I wash mine every day as it looks like this  if I don't, seriously. No amount of mousse or anything makes it look any different either, so for me it's quicker to just wash it.0

I have thick, just about shoulder length hair that takes about an hour to blow dry and overnight if I want it to dry naturally (it then takes ages to style as it turns into a bush!!)
I washed it every 2nd day until 2014 when I reduced it to every 3 days, then every 4 days etc. Now I sometimes have to wash it after 6 days, sometimes it lasts 10. It does all depend on your hair but if you give it time it may adapt to longer gaps between washes (to start with, it will get/feel really manky but that should improve). I used to use dry shampoo a lot, but less so now.
I guess just do what feels right for your hair. I'd recommend persevering with washing it every 2 days for a month or so, and see how you get on.0 -
I wash my hair everyday and it's never done it any harm. It doesn't get particularly greasy but I just can't stand the feel of an unwashed scalp! When I was younger and had greasier hair I used to use dry shampoo and if anything it just made my hair even grubbier, it just added layers of powder on to the grease.0

This is probably going to freak some of you out. I have dry hair and very dry skin (when others my age were getting spots, I was starting to use moisturiser and have done ever since).
My hair is thick, in a medium bob and coloured, as it is naturally white. I wash it once a week. Any more and it would itch like crazy.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”
