There is a mountain of washing up I can't do because of the chinking, and can't put any clothes washing on for noise of the machine. Can't do any hovering....

Can't make my lunch either as she is sat at the kitchen table with absolutely everything spread out everywhere.

Shall I just go and have a bath. Feel like I should be around just in case of a technological problem or the car won't start to get to the post office. Me I am doom and gloom.

And it brings back memories, such as the 180-mile round trip to hand-deliver mine to a deadline.

In a university library in the late 80's, I once saw someone writing their dissertation, with various helpers scurrying backwards and forwards bringing books to her desk, taking lists and going off again. She explained she was running precariously close to her deadline, so the family had come to stay to help out.
