Tell Barclays then that they should spend some time with the OP explaining what they don't like. Then report back what they told you.

Unfortunately, practice proves that the banks behave arrogantly and never discuss this with customers. The OP is lucky that she was allowed to take some money over a counter. Usually victims of banks' arrogance are denied even this small courtesy.
  • I had similar a few years ago and it was sorted in a few days. Give them a call on Monday and ask to speak to the fraud team, they should be able to tell you what is going on.

Thank you, this has made me feel slightly better. i am going to go into branch tomorrow and withdraw some money

Do you have sufficient cash to see you through the weekend? If not, get to the bank now.

It sounds like you acknowledge your recent account activity is unusual, and this is what any bank will do when they spot something out of the ordinary, to protect them and yourself. Or much more likely, they won't.

How exactly would you do that, and what would you hope to achieve by it? Never heard so much nonsense.

OP, if you are unhappy with Barclays, you could consider switching to another bank. Albeit if the use of your account continues with the same pattern, any other bank might also be unhappy with it.

How did your brother and your friend pay the money into your account? If it was by bank transfer, it could be that one or both of their accounts are flagged, and yours got flagged as a consequence.

You should spend some time with Barclays to try and find out what they don't like about your account usage. Panicking if you have done nothing wrong won't do you any good. If you are uncertain, take a trusted friend with you when you go into Barclays but don't delay going to see them.

    Letter to the CEO:

    Dear Mr Staley,

The vile and unwarranted actions of your employees in blocking my bank account for no good reason whatsoever have caused me enormous difficulty. I hereby close my account and do not wish to ever hear from your disgusting company again. I will now make it my business to brief against Barclays at every opportunity and will try and persuade as many people as possible to discontinue any business they may have with your group of companies. Now go and boil your fat, overpaid corporate head.

    Yours sincerely,
    Layla Lawson.

Send the letter in a pink envelope, smelling of perfume. That way his secretary will think it's from some trollop he's having an affair with and will pass it to him for his personal attention.

Sounds like something written from the 1940s :rotfl:

Layla - another thread for you:

I don't think you will be able to withdraw any funds from your bank tomorrow, so hopefully you have alternative means to survive until you regain access.

In the meantime I would also apply for a SAR with CIFAS just in case Barclays have applied a fraud marker against you, if they have, wave goodbye to accessing any credit for the next 6 years.

  • They said I should be able to. I honestly don't understand what is going on.
I mean apart from me getting a bit of extra money I haven't done anything wrong. It's not like 10s of thousands of pounds went into my account- it was a couple of hundreds.
If they close down my account and put a marker on my account, they will then put a marker on my account? Ive just been doing some research and you can't get any other account. How do I get paid?
This is the biggest pile of stress ever! Surely they can trace the transactions and see that one is my brother and another isn't.

I have no access to my account so I cannot pay with my card

If you are unable to pay by card, payment can be made by cheque or Postal Order. Cheques should be payable to ‘Cifas’ and enclosed with this form.

It's worth a try opening a basic bank account elsewhere in the meantime:

  • Thank you.

So if worse come to worse and they stop my accounts and put a fraud marker on my account. what happens then? as other banks won't allow me to have any accounts

    what would i do

Good advice. Try and open another account as soon as possible.
