This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

  • Morning all

I didn't want to get up this morning, brrr, the car is iced over and will need scraping before we set off.
It is so cold at work everyone is complaining and it will be worse today.

Csarina, I hope the funeral passes off peacefully, last night I lit a candle & thought about all of those on this thread who need support.

FIL started phoning again last night, we were supposed to be visiting tomorrow, first he doesn't want us to then he does, hubby has to work, so we have offered to visit on Sunday, he will let us know on Saturday whether we can or not!

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Csarina - thinking of you and your family today, sending our love and support on such a sad day x

Still dark, not raining and the blustery wind has died down, looks like everywhere is starting to dry up a bit.

Dinner last night was pasta with smoked bacon in a cream sauce, with a sprinkle of cheese - very nice, don't want to think about the calories, but it meant the cream didn't get thrown away/wasted. Tonight will be the usual easy dinner and chips for the menfolk, I'll be having omelette or fishcake/jacket potato I haven't decided yet.

Yesterday I was quite lazy - I did have another tidy of my desk and shredded quite alot more old papers, desk does look better now. I also found our mortgage papers, and wanted to check when our current fixed rate deal ends - 30.04.16, checked website and it's a bit too early but at the end of January I can start looking to see what we want to do. Unless there's some good fixed rate deals we'll just revert back to the normal variable rate, which at present is lower than what we've been paying! We'll see nearer the time, although I do like being on the fixed rate as we know what we're paying. We'll get it sorted.

This morning I'll be heading to the SM in a while, as I have to visit a couple of places this morning as DS1 is wanting to follow a diet and exercise plan he's found - we went through the plan last night and added what I don't have at home to the shopping list - which now is twice the size it was and is going to cost a fortune - but he's going to give me the money for the stuff that I buy especially for him, so that's not so bad, and quite a bit of it is going to last, obviously he won't use a whole bottle of sesame oil in a week for example. I have to say that the food looks more "normal" than a lot of other fitness plans I've seen, and it looks nice food too - there's several dishes that when he has those he's going to make it for 2 so I can have some too - especially like the sound of Goan fish curry - that's on the menu for next Friday. He did make me laugh when he asked would I be able to get Goan fish?!

I will continue to potter about today once shopping has been done, I'll need to collect my new iron too, I'll do that and crack on with the ironing, have some clothes in a pile and some in the TD, will get those all sorted.

May do some cooking/baking today if I can be bothered.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. Yet another night of rain but we are having a reprieve just now - it seems to have stopped and we actually have a bit of sun forecast around lunchtime!

Thinking of you today CSARINA, you've had such a long wait for today. Hope it all goes as well as a funeral can do x

Being a Friday it's my cleaning day all round. Apart from the two re-organised bedrooms for the DGDs it certainly needs it! I'll get a head start shortly and do the kitchen before Mr TA gets up! We really do need a new kitchen but, whilst Mr TA was at his worst, plans got shelved. Health worries and problems took priority. Now he's feeling a bit better it's back on the agenda, but I just don't know whether I can face all the upheaval! Where's the fairy godmother with her magic wand when you need her?

Not given a thought yet to today's meals but there is some bacon in the fridge nearing it's date so that might be lunch with a poached egg and some going-a-bit-soft tomatoes fried up with leftover potatoes. Will have a freezer delve shortly before I christen tea but, after yesterday's shop, it's nice to have an assortment of nice fresh veg to chose from to go with whatever it turns out to be!

Have a good day all ((((HUGS)))) to those wanting/needing them. Hope the situation is improving a bit for you REDRUBY. Take care xxxx ps ELONA did you manage to see your royal visitor yesterday!!

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Csarina, I just want to say you and your family are very much in my thoughts and prayers today and I hope the funeral goes as well as can be expected xxx

It's very dark and cold here again this morning, the girls are out of sorts and a bit snappy with each other. Hubby has gone off to work quite cheerfully though as it's his half day to work today. I'm having a bit of a reaction to yesterday and just want to go back to bed so once the girls have left, that is where I will be heading.

I have a Tesco delivery coming this evening so I want to clean out the fridge as there are still little bits to throw away like the last dribble of cream and some squishy veg. I have used up mostly everything though so I am not going to feel bad about it. I will be making corned beef hash for tea so I will just have to peel some potatoes and fry off an onion in preparation for tonight, then I just have to assemble it and bake, easy peasy.

The house needs a good clean but I will wait till the weekend and ask the girls to help out. We usually take a room each and crack on.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are doing, take care xx

Cold and frosty here, will need to de-ice the car. The back door lock seems to be frozen, it's probably full of water that has frozen. Hopefully it will thaw out during the day and I can give it a spray of WD.

csarina - My thoughts are with you today.
Redruby, hope your plans are going well, big hugs to you.

Looking after friends children this evening while they are at the hospital, they can have sausage and mash for tea.

Glad it's Friday, for a 4 day week I'm shattered! Take care. XX

Csarina - Ours thoughts are with you too xx

Nothing exciting happening here, spent the day yesterday catching up with OH,s bookwork, washing and house work.

Today will be bed stripping, hoovering and some ironing.

Off out tonight, will be the first time in about 6 weeks, which is unusual for me :) It will be my first drink (booze) of the week too, as we decided not to do dry Jan, but not to drink through the week anymore - saves us money too :)

Raining again... but at least we,re dry inside - hugs to those who need them xx

    Morning everyone :)

Thoughts are with you today Csarina. Not an easy day for you and not one any parent ever wishes to face :( Hope everything goes as well as it can.

Woke up to lots of condensation on the windows. Have opened our bedroom window and the sitting room and will do he children's rooms when they are up.

Going into the town today but plan on taking a small amount of money and no card so that I don't spend too much. Need to give the bathrooms a good clean before I go, and also want to prepare tonight's tea - someone posted a squash curry recipe on the grocery challenge thread so we will have that and the children can have hm pizzas.

    Morning everyone,

Cold and clear out there, frosty walk with the dogs and just a sliver of moon left from our beautiful Yule full moon.

Csarina, my thoughts will be with you today, hope that all passes off well and that you get to say goodbye in the manner you want x

Off to the farm shop this morning, will pick up one of their lovely chooks for a roast on Saturday, also need fruit and veg but nothing else. The farrier is coming to do Bill's feet, he goes barefoot as has very healthy hooves but the farrier reckons he can shape the hoof to help with his arthritis, am lucky to have such expert help.

Hope everyone has a good day x

I've been looking for fencing for the garden, I want to fence off the patio so Scampi can still go outside without going on the [STRIKE]marsh[/STRIKE] lawn. I don't think I'm going to find exactly what I'm looking for – permanent posts (that's the easy bit!), but with 3' tall panels that will hook on to the posts so I can remove them when the weather is better, without damaging/weakening them each time I put them up and take them down.

I've picked up another bug, I feel nauseous, light-headed, very cold and exhausted. Just doing the bare minimum around the house, with lots of rests between jobs. I can't stand the smell of food at the moment so I run away from the kitchen whenever someone wants to cook, lol.

I'm not doing much again today, just a bit of housework this morning then I'll try to get some sleep this afternoon.
