There may be a glimmer of hope for existing RAC members...

If you haven’t claimed and have a no claims discount (NCD).

Upon renewal, don't! Call to tell them you are not renewing, you will then have 120 days after the expiry of the membership to change your mind and still pick up the NCD. Thus if you break down in the 120 day period, call them up and change you mind!

Okay there are cheaper ways to get the cover but it's equil to 120 days free cover (sort of)

    Some more good news!

Checking the same link as per the top of this thread:
    http://raccarbuyers.co.uk/buyer/cbpOffer.do?method=offerInfo&expand=driving&id=link34&offerId=CBPOFF133&contentFile=rescue&offerCode=RESC001

Reveals you can obtain the 90 days free cover by purchasing a vehicle data check for £5 from this link here:
    http://www.rac.co.uk/web/vehiclechecks/status_checks/?&lid=centreNav&lpos=VehicleDataCheck

Alternatively, if you are an existing member coming up renewal, call them (Say No to 0870 = 0800 1977117) and have a good haggle.

I managed without to much difficulty to procure an additional 3 months on top of the 12 months membership and a small reduction in the renewal fee.

Tip: RAC will only compare policies and price match with the AA none of the others.

Applied on August the 30th and got confirmation email. However, I have still had nothing through the post and the email said the post details would arrive in a week maximum. Anyone else who did get their details through the post??

Just perchased the vehicle data check and received the free RAC cover and 60 days legal cover as well.

    Thanks.
  • the free 90 cover is still being advertised on the RAC website (checked today). However, when i've tried to sign up it tells me I've entered incorrect details. I also tried to contact them via their "contact us" page. Again when I click send, i get an error message asking me to telephone them. Seems a bit of a scam now on the part of RAC.

Well i phoned them up today saying I have not received confirmation in the post. They couldnt find my details and said they would look into it and ring me back in 15mins, this was 2 and a half hours ago lol. Not very impressed but will try again.

Update: I rang them back and the guy said If I have not purchased a car data check then I wont get this. What?! I told him it said nothing about having to buy anything and that I already have a confirmation email. He said if Ive purchased a car data check then the 90day free cover will be on it's way. This isn't right is it??

Cheers for that, I started a post on the freebie board about this too and it seems that alot of people HAVE received their free cover and details in the post so that's good. Will have to ring RAC again n explain it better.
  • the policy cant start until 4 days later so just be aware if you need it next day it aint gonna happen. other than that 90 days for a fiver is not bad at all.
