finished time and time again by Ben Elton.

Interesting idea, and pretty well written.

the first casualty is possibly my next read.

I read that last week, enjoyed it very much so lent it to a friend. The First Casualty is excellent as well.

    I read this one yesterday:

7/10. It's a book aimed at teenagers, I think but certainly made me think about the way we treat people.

The last book of the year for me is this, which has been in print for nearly 20 years and on my bookshelf for 5:

7/10. I took a long time to read this, because I couldn't relate to the writing style or imagery at first, wishing that the writer would stick to the essence of the story. In fact I struggled with how this book was so highly praised as a masterpiece, or how it won the Booker prize. The main part of the book was intriguing, but I again stalled about 80 pages from the end because I found the characters ugly and the themes downright disturbing: goodness and innocence being destroyed through sheer malice on top of a tragedy.

I finally finished it this afternoon, and its evoked some very strong emotions in me. I wonder how other thread regulars that have read it found this particular book?

My last read of this year was Black Rabbit Hall by Eve Chase, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Look forward to hearing about your reads in 2017.

Definitely want to read more this year but get too easily distracted by the internet and work! Will make the effort to read on the bus to work initially. Have just finished Bazaar of Bad Dreams by Stephen King. Really enjoyed it. Next need to finish A Street Cat Named Bob,

I have loads of books, most of which I've had for years without reading them, so I've decided that this year I will read as many as I can, and send them to the CS if I'm not going to read them again. I'm currently reading The Confession by John Grisham, my favourite author, but I must admit I started reading it at the beginning of December 2015 while my DH was in hospital for a procedure and I was waiting in the waiting room. I am now going to read at least one chapter every day until it's finished, instead of faffing about with candy crush so much.

I'm also thinking I will try reading some of the classics, which hopefully I can borrow off my DS's fiancee, as she is a teacher and part time librarian and has loads of books, so I'm sure she'll have some in her stash.
