Slightly off topic but I have difficulty getting my DD (11) trousers.

She is tall for her age and although she is now getting a bit of a waist, because she is in 13/14 or sometimes even 14/15 sizes, they are too shaped. If they fit and hips waist and hips, they are too tight around her (perfectly normal sized) thighs. I am quite happy to take up the length if only I could get trousers that don't crease awkwardly around the crotch.

I also notice that most brands stop the adjustable waist bands at about 10/11 year sizes.

Anyone else out there with a similar problem and if so, have you found any brands that fit?

Have you considered trousers from the womens wear department ?
My daughter had this problem at 12, and we found reasonable quality trousers from asda/tesco ladies department, which offered a short leg ( so no shortening needed;) ). At about £6-8 a pair.
    I hope this helps.

Hi. I know it's a bit off subject, and if it can be posted somewhere else I'd be grateful to know where.

Is there, or is there not, legislation stating that schools cannot have a monopoly on school clothing???

My daughter's school has it's own school shop, on the school premises. EVERYTHING has to come from there (except socks and maybe jogging bottoms). Trouble is, the stuff ain't cheap, and it's not terribly good quality either.

I am sure that there was some legislation mooted to the effect that schools were no longer able to direct parents to a particular outfitter (and get a kick-back), let alone flog the stuff themselves and get all the revenue (and there must be a terrific mark-up as sweatshirts can be bought for as little as £4.50).

Really hacked off at having to pay exorbitant prices for tat, be really grateful if anyone can help me on this.

    Thanks!

NB This is not a private school, it's a state comp (that's a little bit above itself in my opinion!!)

And I'm in Kent and my daughter's been back since 21 Aug - another little wrinkle of the management team, different holidays to nearly anywhere else in England - can anyone guess the school!?!
Ooh, I've gotta little star! What's that for then?!!

Yeah - got similar prob, mine's 12 now but been in adult clothes since about Year 5. Lavender 5 is right, Tesco pretty good and cheap. May not have elasticated waists (altho' I think I have seen some), but often have drawstring or belt. M and S not bad either, in the sales. Mine started in a size 8, and is now a 14 in some! Have you got an outlet centre near you - they're quite good, there's a shop called Logo which has school stuff quite cheap.

    yes there is.

"As a result of the inquiry new guidance is shortly being issued to schools making it clear that uniforms must be affordable and sold in a range of outlets. The crackdown will enable parents to take advantage of savings on uniforms offered by a wider range of suppliers and over the internet"

I am negiotiaging atm to become a schoolwear supplier to my kids sec sch and then will expand. I have alot of contacts in the schoolwear sector and was outraged when I saw the prices of what our schools current supplier was chargin. (they are a national chain). ALso quality was not so good as the sweatshirts lost their colour and were also very thin compared to what I can get.....

Parents should be given a choice to where they want to buy the uniform from and not be held to ransom!

  • My eldest starts school next week for first time and i have really struggled to get her trousers. in the end we opted for skirts with tights as she is very petite for her age. the smallest size trouser i have found was 4-5 which drowns her. her skirts are age 3-4 and have the elastic altering bands in them set at the tightest they will go. I know im not the only one who has a small daughter and struggles with clothes i just wish they would make them a little smaller. Also big gripe with tesco atm. I bought her a pack of blue polo t-shirts as that is part of her uniform age 4-5 they drown her..... bought the plain white ones in the same size for PE and they barely fit my 2 yr old. Its madness i tell thee madness lol
