OVO Broadband

Hi Everyone
I am new to this forum so please forgive me if I am posting in the wrong place or making any other faux pas. I am trying to find out if anyone has experience of OVO Broadband as I am looking for a new supplier to get away from Talk Talk. I am a customer of OVO energy and their service is very good but that's no guarantee that they can provide a good broadband service.
Any help appreciated

Thanks

I think they have only just started selling Broadband so you might not get many replies.

The prices look a little expensive but if their customer service is as good as the other products they supply it might be worth paying a little extra.

This will be a resold BT Wholesale product, so I'd expect to find that Plusnet will usually undercut them on price, and of course it runs on the same network.
All depends if you are happy to pay a big premium for better CS. What are your other LLU options? Sky?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks for the help. I think your right that it is a new service as I hadn't noticed it before. My other options are Plusnet, Sky and BT. The problem is that all providers seem to have a lot of really bad reviews, so it's difficult to make an informed decision. I'm really annoyed at the way Talk Talk treat there customers after their appalling security lapses. Giving so called free offers for sticking with them but only if you sign up for another year is frankly insulting. But the connection is cheap and reliable, so I want to be sure my new provider has good customer experience and can keep my details safe!
  • Hi Gridrunner
I'll be able to give more feedback soon as I've just changed my BT line rental and Sky broadband over to OVO.
Sky wanted to charge me £50 (with them for 16 years) for fibre upgrade connection yet it's only £35 for new customers - no charge at all with OVO!!
My OVO fibre goes live this week and so far the process has been really sweet.
Fingers crossed that the actual fire up goes as smoothly as the administrative changeover.
  • I switched to Ovo Broadband last week - switch (from PlusNet) went fine and so far fine.
But if switching to get away from TalkTalk then you should be away that when I check on whoismyisp I was surprised to see it shows "TalkTalk" (and clear now that Ovo and TalkTalk use the same router). I contacted Ovo to ask them if they are just repackaged TalkTalk but no reply. Maybe given everything is resold BT wholesale and if get decent customer service then does not matter so much but still not what I was expecting. (TalkTalk fibre directly is not available to me - SW London)

If you want 'good CS' then you can rule out BT, which leaves you with Sky or PN. Personally I'd alway go for the LLU option when available,.

I noticed the link to OVO broadband when I logged in to my energy account last month.

I've been paying Sky £15 per month (plus BT Line Rental £17.99 = £32.99) for standard BB (unlimited) since they took over the O2 BB service. I've had issues with my Sky BB recently, so looked at the cost of an upgrade to fibre.

A Sky fibre upgrade would have cost me £100+ (connection and Sky Hub fees) and then £37.40 per month (incl. line rental).

OVO offer unlimited fibre with no connection / router / delivery fees for £35 pm (incl. line rental). I signed up (go live next Tuesday 9/2/16) - hopefully for a better (much faster) service and saving in upfront costs and monthly fees.

p.s. I had been searching for some reviews of OVO BB since signing up - this is the first thread I've seen! I noticed they only started the service as of January and there are a few posts on twitter regarding availability, but nothing on speeds / customer satisfaction etc... I'll update this thread as we progress - hope others do too!

BT does the contract bit too with low price offers in return for renewing a contract for 12 months. Currently it's BT Mobile, previously it was BT TV, before that BT Sport HD and it goes on and on.

I would love to appraise OVO Broadband but I need to log in to an online account and I need to log in to follow the progress of my switch. But I don't have a login and it looks like that like the welcome pack is a long time coming. On second thoughts I might go to TalkTalk and get a bit of efficiecy :)
  • Have a look at Origin Broadband. Changed to them 5 months ago, Cant fault them so far. 100% uk based. Excellent pricing. Been with TT, Sky and BT over past 10 years or so. I have 76mb unlimited fibre. Line estimate max 69mb usually get 64 ish. Never had a drop out. Pay 18.49 per month first 3 months free. Line rental 16.40 but they do 1 and 2 year line rental packages taking it down to around £12 per month. Normal upto 17mb broadband is free. Have a feeling they bounce off PLUSNET BUSINESS BROADBAND service but cannot confirm this. They have NO traffic management or throtteling which alot of companies do. Hence you should maintain good speed at all times. They do charge £7- £25 for routers (choice) but you maybe able to use you existing router, they will tell you, and talk you through the setup. The do unlimited calls packages etc also.
I pay roughly £35.50 for Line Rental, Caller Display, 76Mb unlimited Fibre and Unlimited anytime calls. I think BT wanted around £49 for same!
