O/S Daily Thread for Thursday 7th January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning all
Csarina, I hope it all goes well today
Hugs to Ruby, Floss, Judi, LW and anyone else in need.
Cranky, lovely to see you posting again.
Went back to slimming world last night, I've missed a couple of weeks over Christmas, I only went to get weighed, couldn't stay as I was going out for a meal with DD, my Christmas present from her.
Still no heating at work as they are still having problems with the boiler, but my room is ok as I'm on a separate heating system to protect my machines.
    Have a good day everybody.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Csarina - thinking of you and your family, hugs x

Hugs to those that need/want them x

Still dark here, raining quite heavily and has been doing since sometime during the night - everywhere is saturated with loads of standing water, not quite so cold though.

Dinner last night was the cheese and potato pie, breaded chicken pieces, beans/veg and onion rings, went down well and none left. Menfolk ate the mince pies I made, so no waste. Tonight we're having pasta in a creamy sauce with bacon - if the fresh cream I've got is ok, then I'll use that if not I've got a jar that I can use and adapt a bit, I'll cook some part baked baguette to go with it too.

Wasn't wildly productive yesterday but did take the last bit of rubbish to the recycling centre from DS2's room. Then hoovered and it's looking so much better now, just have a bag of clothes to go out for collection tomorrow - I was going to take them to the recycling centre to put in the clothes recycling bin there but the envelope was put through the door, so decided they could benefit - hope they turn up! Had an email to say that my new iron is ready to be collected, I may fetch it today or may leave it until tomorrow. I did hoover and dust through, and cleaned the bathrooms. I had another tidy of my computer desk and it is better, but I've got too much paperwork in general, started sorting through the filing cabinet next to my desk and have general paperwork that dates back 2 years - that paperwork is no longer any good so why keep it. I started going through paperwork and shredding anything that's not needed - it's going to be a big job, but I'll probably continue with it today if the weather continues as it is at the moment, think I'll stay in the warm and dry. i did get some more admins jobs done on the pc and made a telephone call, so a couple more things sorted.

Will just continue my pottering about, I really would like to make headway with the paperwork, so that will be tackled today.

    Keep safe and well x

Morning all :) Had one of those days yesterday where I was constantly chasing my tail but managed to get a fair bit done. Need today to recover though :D

I've just made pack lunches and need to get the wm and bm on the go but thought I would have a coffee first before anything else. Plans for today include using up some veg for a soup, making a couple of loaves of bread, sweeping and mopping the hall and kitchen floor and decluttering under our bed. I'm also going to get started on the ironing pile before it grows into a monster again :)

Tea tonight is sausage and mash so a nice easy one :)

Raining again. No washing today. Made 2 banana loaves last night to use up squishy bananas, will give one to neighbours and one to DD. Also cut the christmas cards to make gift tags for next year, the rest have gone in the recycling bin which gets emptied today.

Judi - Don't be railroaded into doing something you don't want to do.
Good to see you hilstep, your stairlift sounds to be just the job.
Hugs to those not feeling so good.

Work and hospice today, being back at work is taking its toll, I was woken up by the alarm this morning! Take care. XX

Still no joy here re OH will leave till tomorrow then put plans into action.

Off to work for me and dd is hoping to go back to placement but will have to take it very steady.

Need to do a wash tonight and will have to td it as its work t shirts. Something and chips for dinner tonight.

Hugs to all in need xx
  • Morning all. Well what a surprise - it's raining again and has been doing so all night! But no fog so that's a bonus!

We need to venture to Aldi this morning. I've not been since mid December as I got 3 x of all basics to avoid shopping through Xmas and NY. Just been popping in wherever I was passing to top up fruit, veg and dairy. Now it's needs must but I am determined to only get necessities as it's still work in progress reducing stocks in the freezer and cupboards. The exception being my yummy sausage order! My DB rang to ask if I needed any so said yes, as I daren't run out of those! There'd be hell to pay if DGDs didn't get their sausage & mash! Come to think of it they would just go nicely with the cheese and potato pie that I can't stop thinking about!! So that's tea sorted!! (Thanks nmlc!)

We had a lovely old biddy night at the carvery and the nattering (and wine consumption!) carried on afterwards in the bar, till we realised we were the last in and they were waiting to lock up!! So we rang for our taxi and apologised profusely!! I actually slept till 6.30 (but did wake up a few times) So I may have solved my insomnia problem - go out for a large meal and a few wines every night!!

I need to go back to Dunelm whilst we are out as I seem to have ended up with only one tieback for eldest DGDs curtains! I have checked the receipt and have only paid for one so can only think the other slipped through a gap in the trolley and ended up on the shop floor. Will call there on the way to DB's.

Have a nice day all ((((HUGS)))) to all in need and, of course, CSARINA you are still in my thoughts. I hope DH is picking up. Take care all xxxx

    Morning all,

Thinking of all having tricky times.

I'm determined to get lots done today. I have an unwanted Xmas pressure (a lamp), some outgoing post, and a couple of bits of unwanted furniture to go so I'm going to the chazza and the post office to sort that. Going to get MIL to help with my CV this weekend but also going to ring Student Loans and see what my options are. Feeling really anxious about it all. We only have enough money to see us to the end of February unless I get rid of the car, which I'm not going to, so hopefully things get resolved soon.

DD is back to school today so I should have a chance to get everything done. As usual I've gone rogue and deviated from the mealplan but I'm going to stick to tonight's which is HM pizza.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's so cold here this morning I have had to put the heating on as I am shivering. DD13 has just made me a lovely cup of tea so hopefully that will help warm me up a bit.

Hubby has gone off to work and the girls are getting ready for school. My eldest DD is coming over after dropping off the grandkids to school and then we are going to talk about her wedding. I have offered to make the invitations so we need to find a design she is happy with. It's not till August but the time will fly by I'm sure.

I am actually going out this afternoon to see a psychologist to be assessed for further therapy. I am very nervous about it and it is making me feel a bit sick but I have waited months for this so will do my best to make the appointment. My CMHT lady will be coming with me to make it a bit easier.

We are going to have beef stroganoff for tea as it is quick and easy. The girls will probably have tuna pasta as they really don't like mushrooms. So far I have stuck to my meal plan and it does make life easier knowing what I need to get out of the freezer the day before. We are still squeaking along on very little money and any that is left over will be thrown at my debts.

Well that's all from me on this wet and miserable day. Hope you all manage to have a good day anyway, take care xx
  • Just popping back on to say hope all goes well this afternoon DUMPLING. We will all be with you in spirit encouraging you every step of the way. Good luck xx

  • Good morning

It is pouring down here and has been doing for quite some time now, am going into town to meet my friend then dad is running me to the garage to collect my car. Has been in since before new year as head gasket had gone as well as few other problems so will be pleased to get that back especially with the weather the way it is plus I am back to work Monday so will need the car for then.

DD still not 100% this morning but she slept ok and has had something to eat and drink and some more tablets. Hopefully she will make it through the day, once I have the car back won't stress so much as can easily collect her from school if she is poorly.

Dinner is leftovers tonight....either salad from last night or spaghetti bolognese from the night before. We will argue about who wants what later.

Thinking of those with appointments, grumpy OH's and other stresses
