    Afternoon all,

Very dull here and I hate going to work when it's very dark in the mornings. Roll on the Spring.

Dad is doing OK in rehab. Me and DH are meeting the OT at his bungalow tomorrow morning to discuss access and equipment etc.

Judi - I feel some of your pain. My DH nags about going to live abroad, of which I have no real inclination to do so. I have told him I don't want to hold him back and if it's what he really wants - to go and do it! I also get it in the head because I work term time and we can't just upsticks and go away when he wants because he works for himself.

Hope everyone is doing ok as not managing to get on here as often as I'd like :)

Aw JUDI spending the summer in a caravan in Cornwall would have been a lovely, romantic idea IF (BIG IF) you were lovesick teenagers and you didn't have family depending on you, as well as your dear mum to think about. Surely when he thinks it through your DH will realise it's not really feasible.

The bedroom swapover for the 3 DGDs was harder work than I anticipated - lugging stuff from one room to another, up and down the stepstool changing curtains and then making up all the beds. Mr TA, bless him, was trying to help but it would have been easier on my own!! The eldest's room looks lovely now she is "grown up" (at 11!!!) with just two teddies on the bed and not another toy in sight. The bigger room, on the other hand , for the 5 & 7 yo's looks like a kindergarten! WM now chugging away with the surplus bedding and curtains in to pass on to the chazzer.

Now looking forward to my girls' (well old biddy's really) night out and a nice carvery meal. And, of course, a large wine or three!! Off in the shower shortly.

Hi HILSTEP! Have a nice evening all xx

Nmlc - that cheese and potato pie sounds lovely - proper comfort food, I shall have to try it :) It's been a miserable day down here, really wish the weather would dry up a bit. I know we are very lucky though when so many are struggling with the floods. Hope you've all had a good day x

ive decided... he can have his two weeks in Cornwall. Me and the dogs will be with him.

The kids always knew that they would have to stand on their own two feet sometime. i wont apologise for that.

Mother.... i'm not willing to compromise on. For however long she has left i will be here.

Exactly. It's not like he'll be waiting forever for his turn. Until then he'll just have to cop on and deal with. Your caravan is in the wrong place too. You need a holiday home where he wants to go abroad but keep your own house too.

Elona Pickfords did my house move. They turned up and packed for me using several trees worth of paper but nothing broke or was damaged. I was a bit taken aback when the packers turned out to be the same blokes who were actually moving the stuff the day after but they were amazing. It's worth getting professionals as they just know how to make awkward furniture from a big house fit round small bends in a new house.

Mrs LW Grumpy the house elf had the same table and chairs from the Swedish shop when he was small. He coloured in the table and chairs too which I wasn't happy with at first but then I realised that he knew it was his and could "decorate" it and he never as much scribbled on a wall or anywhere else in the house. As my sister's son drew a giant santa on his bedroom wall, complete with hat which he stood on his bed to draw, I think we got off lightly.

    Morning everyone

MandM90 - you asked about the Cheese and Potato pie -

Peel enough potatoes for how many you want to feed. Put in pan of water, boil and the cook them. (In the same way you would for mashed potato).
Once cooked, drain, add some butter/marg/milk - mash. I then cook some bacon (either lardons or cut up rashers of bacon). Whilst the bacon is cooking, grate some cheese - I find using a strong/mature cheese gives better flavour. Once bacon is cooked mix with the mash mixture, and add some of the grated cheese, salt and pepper to your taste. Then put into a ovenproof dish, put remaining grated cheese on top and bake in the oven, until piping hot.

    Hope this helps x

That sounds great; I've snagged it for later use. Would it work ok with Qu0rn bacon-style slices chopped up, do you think?:o
Fwiw, we always have extra, extra mature Cheddar available - it virtually dances around the fridge on its own, but it's great for cooking with.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

Golly, Cheese and Tattie pie I haven't had that for years, back in 1962 when I was first married I bought a round pyrex glass bowl to use to cook it in.
I have lost count of the times that bowl has been used over the years and
C & T pie was what I used it first to cook with.

My OH and I had a couple of friends who like us were newly married, and fairly flat broke, we would take it in turn every week to go to their house and they would come to ours and we would have an evening playing cards (usually whist) and C&T pie was on the menu every Thursday night. We were both young and skint so it was a cheap meal and an evening out for us all.One week I spiced it up a bit with some diced cooked onions and then the next week my friend would say 'I've tried it with some mushrooms this week'. I think we tried every combination known to man just using the cheese and potatoes as a base. :):):)Put on top of a tin of beans, flavoured the beans with chilli/curry powder. We really did experiment with it as it was cheap and filling. Proper comfort food in the winter time :):):)

I still have my old bowl, even though through the years and the washing up its now a bit cloudy I can even remember how much it cost 4/11d in Woolworths, Just under 25p a blooming good bargain and if I had a quid for every meal I've cooked in it over the past 53 years I would be well off :):):)
  • My mum always used to make cheese and potato pie....used to have it with bread and butter, only when dad was out somewhere as he is very much a meat with every meal man. Mmmmm really fancy making one....might have to add that one to the meal plan.

Had lovely day out with mum and dad. Apart from a little food shopping didnt spend a penny so was very pleased with myself.

Had jacket potato for tea....dd had tuna, I had grated cheese and I had a go at making coleslaw. Meant to get some at the shops but forgot, had all the ingredients in, didn't leave it in fridge for as long as they said needed to and think I will tweak the quantities a little next time but for a first attempt I was very impressed.

Bless her DD is tucked up in bed with a nasty sicky head. Think she is struggling with first week back, there is a lot of pressure being put on them at the moment as they have their year 10 exams at the end of the month. Have taken her up a drink and some tablets, she said she just wants to sleep, hopefully she will feel better in the morning. Hate it when she is poorly.
  • :hello: Good evening everyone,

Hugs to everyone and hope everyone has had a good day and hope all poorlies feel better soon.

Didn't sleep too well last night, as I heard DS and his friends come back from the pub, not sure what time though, but was very late. Then I kept waking up as they were up all night, but not noisy just talking I think. They had left when I got home this afternoon

I'm still trying to get back into the routine at work:rotfl: Its not going too badly. When I picked up DD from school I dropped her off at her BF's for a while, but she came home for dinner.

I made Sweet potato and lentil hotpot for dinner which was very nice, but will have to try the cheese and potato pie one day as it sounds lovely, real comfort food.

DS has gone to work at the pub until it closes.

I have a pile of ironing and washing to sort out, but can't be bothered so will do it tomorrow.

Take care and have a good evening all.

    Evening everyone

Another late posting. Was working as an invigilator today, was okay but ended up with sore feet. Resulted in buying some shoes that claim comfort from a well known maker.

Spent all day yesterday cleaning the house. Getting rid of the tree and putting away decorations. Woke up this morning and dh had walked all through downstairs with his muddy boots. He thought it was funny when I happened to mention it.

I do feel taken for granted sometimes especially with the cleaning each week that I do. I am nearly working full time hours again, sometimes more yet I always end up doing all the cleaning. Tonight he finished work early, decided to go to the pub the said can you cook dinner as I'm too tired. It is normally dh that cooks and I usually clear away but no tonight I got to do everything whilst he slept. I would have left it but that would have meant no dinner.Anyway moan over.

Csarina - will be thinking of you tomorrow.
Redruby (((hugs))) thinking of you too. Hope you enjoyed your dinner.

Hugs to anyone that needs/wants one. Take care
