O/S Daily Thread Wednesday 6th January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all
Off to work in a sec, very cold here, even colder at work as the heating is not working.
Someone who left is not being replaced so everyone is shouldering extra work.
Monday someone shouted at me because she didn't know how to use one of my machines, not sure why that's my fault! I run regular training sessions.
Yesterday I refused to give up my lunch break for 2 disorganised students, so managed to upset someone else.
I wonder what today will bring?
Hey ho, much worse things are happening to the rest of us.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Still dark here, rained quite heavily during the night but has now stopped and is just damp underfoot.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was HM egg, bacon and cheese quiche, new pots, salad, coleslaw, pasta salad. Quiche was nice, but had a bit of nightmare with the pastry - my pastry is a bit hit and miss, and this was a miss, but I was able to rescue it somewhat - I baked the pastry case blind, as I always do before making quiche- had a job getting the pastry into the case as it kept breaking/splitting so then had to do a few "repair" jobs, so didn't look very pretty, but then after cooking blind and I took it out of the oven part of the side had collapsed so whilst it was hot managed to put it back in place straight back in the oven to cook for a while longer, seemed to work ok. Once filling was in quiche and it had cooked and expanded a bit it looked ok. Used up lots of bits that otherwise would have been thrown away, some cream, mascarpone cheese, bacon. I used the LO bits of pastry to make a few mince pies, so no waste from those either. DH ate the last slice of xmas cake for dessert. Dinner tonight is HM cheese and potato pie, I'm going to put some bacon in that too, and will serve that with breaded chicken pieces and beans.
I was not so productive yesterday but DS2's bedroom is finished to a point I'm happy with. I sorted through his wardrobe and chests of drawers, taking all his clothes out, those that I know fit him, I put back, those I didn't put on his bed for him to try on. He did that once he was home from school. There's a bag to go to the Charity Shop. I also got the washing, drying and ironing nearly up to date, ordered niece's birthday prezzie, booked table for Sunday lunch, did a few jobs on pc - paying some bills etc, also made a start on writing up the 2016 calender so we all know who's where when etc - so whilst not loads done, still moving in the right direction albeit slowly.
I'll just potter along again today, I want to have another go at sorting this computer desk, I've done it once and it's still not as tidy as I'd like so will try again today, seem to have loads of paperwork - will see what I can shred or need to keep and file.
Keep safe and well x

Morning HESTER and all who follow. Grrrr to the woman who shouted at you, there's no excuse for rudeness.
Yet another foggy, dismal, miserable, mizzly start out there from what I can see. Are we ever going to get any bright, sunny and crispy winter days? I am sick to death of this depressing weather when it never seems daylight!
I do wish Mr TA was an early riser like me. There are so many jobs I could be getting on with but I don't want to waken him up by clattering around! It'll be mid morning before I get on with the DGD's bedroom swap and I have all their bedding to iron first too! I always do the ironing upstairs so I should have thought to bring the board and overflowing basket down here last night shouldn't I!!
It's my girlies monthly meet up for carvery and wine tonight but it will be a quiet affair this time. One has been in Spain for a month (lucky her!), another has something else planned (and her sister doesn't come without her!) so only three of us this time. But it'll be nice to have a natter, catch up of news and put the world to rights as always! I have just got a pot of Bolognese out of the freezer to do Spag Bol for Mr TA before I go. There's some cream needs finishing off today so that will go nicely with a slice of mincemeat tart for his afters!
I finally braved the scales this morning and, despite feeling a stone heavier, I find I have only actually put on 3 lbs! I am amazed as I have been shovelling down all things fattening non-stop since Xmas Eve! Well done to you who have managed to lose weight, you are stronger willed than I!! DD is now back at WW's and in despair at what she has piled on!!
Have a good day all (((((((HUGS)))))))) to all who want/need them. So many of you just now. Take care all xx ps still persevering with my herbal remedies!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning :hello:
Everyone's work routines only went back to normal on monday, I waited til then to get stuck in to organising the house – I can't do it when they're around, too much interference, lol.
I'd like to start organising pots and compost, but the garden is like a marsh. We have clay soil, the veg patch is fine (just 'normal' wet, lol) after years of digging in compost but the top end of the garden hasn't been touched so gets very soggy.
The houseplants were very dry so I gave them all a good soaking in the sink. Everything's had a good clean, except the downstairs windows which I'll do today. I've done an online shop, not too much but I wanted to stock up on fresh stuff and couldn't be bothered to go into townYou have to spend a minimum of £40 so I added extra mik and bread, they can go in the freezer.
I'm still working my way through turkey and ham from Christmas, I sliced it all and froze it in portions. There's plenty of food in the cupboards and freezers so I won't need to do a big shop for quite a while.
Right, I'm off to vinegar my windows

Morning All
Welcome Misscleanup, sorry to hear you have been having relationship problems.
HH - Good to hear you stuck to your guns about your lunch break, grr to the woman who shouted at you.
Rosy - Hope they do your road properly, but 7 months is a long time!
Special hugs to RR, csarina and LW, hope things improve for you soon.
Thanks for all your well wishes for DD.
Spent time with my friend last night, her Mum is gravely ill and there's nothing they can do for her.
I got a new camera yesterday, DS2s christmas present to me, it looks quite complicated so need to spend time testing it. Managed to get the washing up to date, just the ironing to do later with the new iron, not so keen on testing that!
The weather looks quite promising at the moment, clear skies but I doubt that will last, yesterday turned really cold. I got wrapped up and walked to the library so that warmed me up.
Have a good day, I'm all confused with days as we had Monday off, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Changing my routine this year, trying to have breakfast before I leave the house in the morning - I've been taking it to work with me for ages, but the students at the school I'm at now appear to be morning people, and keep turning up in my classroom to ask questions/beg for extensions while I'm trying to get my yogurt eaten! Decided it won't hurt me to leave the house 10 minutes later of a morning, and have breakfast (and coffee! yippee!) before I leave.
Hester - know your feeling on disorganised students, all I did yesterday was upset students (and parents!) who thought they were entitled to an extra week on the 2 week extension they'd already had... Apparently I'm being "well unfair". Tough.
Got my first post Christmas weigh-in tonight, so will be a well behaved and very active day for me - I try to do as many steps as possible, and avoid the chocolate stash too! Chicken's out of the freezer for dinner, washing machine is already on, ready for me to sort both when I get home.
Have good days all x*2016 - the year of the savings account!*

Morning all, about to get ready and beetle off to work. It is a cold, dark morning but not raining.
Went out last night and had a lovely but expensive time. We almost never, well never, eat out as OH complains it is expensive and nothing better than he or l can cook but I don't feel that is quite the point.
One more day at the grindstone as this is my short week, I should not complain as my job is very interesting , though demanding, but in the past months I have felt every one of my 64 years. I am sure this will improve. Hope so, anyhow!
Family still snuggled up in pits, some mornings I feel like hoovering loudly to make a point but am trying to be a better person and am confining myself to switching the bedroom light on to get dressed as doing that in the dark is not as easy as it should be.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone.
I have no idea why I keep waking so early when there's no need - old habits die hard indeed. It's still dark out side and very cold again.
Yesterday I did a bit of reorganisation of the food store in the back barn and stashed away a large amount of leftover Christmas goodies. If I can see them or smell them they'll be down my neck faster than a custard cream. They are all in heavy duty plastic boxes to avoid mouse incursion!
Today I have to go into town. I renewed my passport online but now need two new photographs before posting it off. Then another visit to the tip with stuff out of the barn and more cardboard. I got a very small item from Ama**on yesterday - think half the size of a jar of jam - and it came in a large box and protected with reams of brown paper. At least I can recycle it all.
TA - how are the potions doing? I think you're brave taking the witches brew five times a day, did your plan work?
Hester - people are just plain rude these days. Why some think that shouting is an appropriate way to communicate is weird.
Best thoughts to those who need them but also to everyone in general.
Happy Wednesday.0 -
Morning everyone again
HH - boo to those that shout at you, never any need to shout at colleagues just trying to do their job.
Just to add to my earlier post, I ordered a new steam generator iron yesterday - my current one of a well recognised manufacturer is heating up but won't steam at all, have tried a descale, emptied it refilled and still nothing, it's been working ok every now and then but now won't steam at all. Went on their website, all the complaints were about the same one as I have, now I know why it was in the sale when I bought it! It's out of manufacturers guarantee and from what I've read manufacturers don't want to know even those that seem to have a genuine problem - when I was searching yesterday for a replacement, the most common manufacturer in all the sales was this one, so I've found a different make at a ok price, so hoping this will be a good replacement, we'll see.
