EE moving number

I am having real problems with EE and trying to move my mobile number to my new phone. If I were moving from another provider then a pac code would work. However, because I bought my phone from a third party, Carphone Warehouse and then had a new contract with EE, even though I am out of contract with EE, they will not move my mobile number internally from my old EE contract to my new EE contract. I have had my number for over 10 years and have moved with EE before during an upgrade. I am seriously considering not renewing with EE and cancelling the purchase with Carphone Warehouse. Why does it have to be this complicated?

Probably because they like things that way.
It's irrelevant where the new contract was taken out; only the network is relevant, and with nearly all of them (unless it's a so-called "upgrade") you'd need to port out via another network.0 -
I bought a new phone as you did from a third party, moved the sim card from the old phone to the new one and this keeps your original number.0

However, the OP bought a new phone with a new contract. What to do with the new SIM an the new contract after moving the old SIM to the new phone?0 -
If you want to stay on the same network with the same number you do an "upgrade".
If you want to move to another network and keep your number you buy a new contract and port your number.
If you want a new phone but do not want to keep the old number you purchase a new contract on any network and cancel the old contract.
Those are the usual routes. It appears you made a mistake in purchasing a new contract rather than an upgrade.
There are two ways to fix this.
1. Port your old number out of the old contract on to a pay as you go SIM on some other network. Once this has been done wait a week or so and then port out from the pay as you go SIM to your new contract.
2. Return the new contract and completely cancel the deal. Start again by processing an upgrade on your old number with a new handset.0 -
just use the pac code to a PAYG sim , then back again , and so this does not cause confusion do not use a EE payg sim , you are likely to be without your number for about 6 days , but are likely to have incoming calls to your old number on the PAYG sim within about 3 days , the outlay will be one x topup , usually about £10Save a Rachael

Why 6 days and 3 days?
The old contract is still running.
Porting to PAYG and from it is almost instant.
£10 credit is likely to be sufficient to sustain PAYG for a few days.0 -
O2 is the only provider which allows internal transfers I think.
You need to get a PAC Code and move number to a PAYG SIM of another provider (o2/voda etc) and then transfer back on new sim0 -

1:time to setup PAYG account and top up , this needs to be done correctly with a name/address and password , unlike 99% of payg handsets being used today
2: time to contact EE and request a PAC number
3: time to ring PAYG provider with pac number
4: 24-48 hrs for porting
5: allow several hours and make an odd call on PAYG with saved number
6: contact PAYG to request PAC code
7: contact new contract (EE) and give PAC code
8: wait 24-48 hrs for new contract to be changed to old number
yes the PAYG company will require that the handset has been used and a £10 top up would easily cover it.
I have just done similar , in my case it was from EE (payg) to a life mobile (monthly contract) as Life is part of EE they could not internally port , and I used "3" as an intermediary PAYG sim cardSave a Rachael

None of the above, even if combined, leaves the OP "without [old] number for about 6 days" like you said. Neither for 3 days. Nor even for 1 if porting goes normally without problems. As soon as the previous SIM dies the number starts working on the new SIM that it's ported to.0
