Vickthestick - Some households (including mine) are on the old Economy 7 tariff for electricity. I think this dates back to when night storage heaters were popular. We have them upstsirs so have kept our dual tariff. It means we pay very slightly more than single tariff customers for daytime electricty but the big bonus is that our night time tariff from 1 till 8am costs less than half the daytime rate. That's when our storage heaters use most power & I also find it's well worth running the washing machine & heated airer overnight too. If I'm very organised, I sometimes run the slow cooker too plus charge gadgets up & occasionally get up early to iron too. If we ever swapped to standard central heating, I'd change to a single tariff meter.

    Greetings Busy Frugalistas,
Am busy tackling some of the jobs on List 1: Things that have been annoying me that I can solve for free. So far:
*Cleared out & reorganised baking cupboard. Can now access everything without having to move about 20 items first.
*Cleared out freezer container cupboard. Can now see at a glance what is in there. Chucked out all containers with no lids.
*Dealt with jar stash. Silly shapes & sizes put out for bottle bank. Nice 1lb jars removed ready for marmalade making season. Can now open cupboard without jars jumping out & smashing.
*Turned out herbs & spices cupboard. Made a list of what I need to buy. Refilled jars with the herbs I grew & dried in summer. Can"t believe I"ve been taking individual bay leaves from the ceiling for months when it took me just 5 mins to put them in the jar.
Have also made bread rolls, & done an audit of fresh fruit & veg. 1 manky apple. Cut mank out & ate the good half for lunch. Found parsnips & carrots which won't be used this week so have tweaked meal plans & am going to make a red lentil based cottage pie topped with parsnip mash. Will serve with last of our home grown green beans from freezer & use it up carrots.
Must sign off & hoover kitchen now as it's covered in herbs & black pepper!
    Oh, & an NSD.
    Cheers,
    F x

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All

    Today's small things.
    1. Checked banking
    2. Transfered CB to main account
    3. Logged in to savings account
    4. Gave son the leftover grapefruit segments he didn't finish yesterday.
    5. Ate up some more cooked chicken for lunch with salad in the fridge and some crackers and Stilton
    6. Ate a piece of Christmas cake for elevensies
    7. Went for a walk for free exercise
    8. Will make the YS pork cubes I bought for pennies into a nice strew with rice for dinner
    9. Washed a load. Hung it to dry on drying rack.
    10. Packed away dry washing from yesterday
    11. Updated budget spreadsheet
    12. OH took his lunch to work. So NSD for him too.
    13. Put DD in another dress from the enormous pile of donated stuff. Still don't know what to do with it all. She will never wear everything before its grown out of. Seems silly to feel stressed by having too many baby clothes but I do.
    14. Check ebay list of comics to see if anyone has watched them.

Jonno- sorry to hear your daughter was ill. Hope she's better soon. We had a bad night for some reason. Not sickness just a very figetty baby. I feel exhausted today.

    Bye for now

    Bob

Me again! I was pleased with myself earlier as been getting back into the bad habit of popping to the shop for a bottle of pop, was thirsty on my lunch break and right by a shop but thought "no, this needs to stop" and walked away! Small things and all that!
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,555.00
Total paid off - £10,045.89 (64% paid off)

Well done Twiggy! This is on my list of new years resolutions. Diet coke is my DFW enemy:rotfl: I used to buy a bottle a day pretty much - not as a planned thing, but just wherever I was one would get picked up somewhere. Then I realised it was costing me £456 a year  I resisted buying one at the play centre today too

  • Thanks for the explanation Foxgloves. We definitely don't have that.
I ended up taking the Smalls to visit Father in Law and going for a walk.
Popped into supermarket for milk on the way home. Mistake. Can I have, Can I have... no! Put it back. Grr.

    Evening everyone,

Late addition to the thread, hope you all had great days. Today I have been in work for a 10 hour shift that was surprisingly quiet compared to yesterday. That guys for the wallpaper and venetian blinds came so went up to my new house to look at them afterwards they're both looking really good. Upped my minimum payment for CC to £100 each month too which I am really enthused about.

    Take care

  • Evening All,

Hope everyone has had a nice day :) I am feeling comforted right now by the huge amounts of lovely food my in-laws fed me today. Yay.

Debbie _Debt I can't believe how much your enemy, diet coke, was costing you  well done for beating it into submission. :)

Have a lovely evening folks. :)
    Money scares me.

    Honesty update will arrive shortly......:o
  • Thanks for starting CCL
Debbie Debt that once happened to me when my hairdryer caught fire
    Candy sorry you feel blue

Not a NSD for me as I had to buy dog food, washing powder and a cake to take to work tomorrow - I've decided to go to work but not do my extra hours and take an odd 1.5 hours leave I have so I can finish at 2.30pm. Just as well we haven't planned anything really as OH has horrible sickness etc. that I had which leads me to believe it was norovirus and not food poisoning

Banking checked and some money moved into savings pot
Two extra hours done at work
    FPL and surveys to do
Breakfast and lunch from stores but I bought a tuna Niçoise salad for tea as I knew OH wouldn't be eating - not very moneysaving :o
OH has booked my car in to his mate's garage for it's MOT on Saturday. Fingers-crossed it doesn't need much doing

My sleep was disrupted with OH last night so I'm just about ready to get into bed! Night all
