Tuesday 5th Jan - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

  • Good morning everyone :D
Just a quick check in from me this morning before another busy day at work (with another meeting) - plus the roads are looking a bit treacherous outside so I suspect a long commute this morning as well.
First day back for my kids today. They're both struggling to wake themselves up this morning.
Anyway, hope everyone is well - here's my list for today.
    :D Check banking and PAD
:D All meals from stores (still using up leftovers)
    :D Full day of teaching
:D Try and mark a set of books
    :D Meeting after work
:D Print some craft stuff off using work printer :o
    :D Try not to stress
:D Encourage DH to do something via list or text
:D Make a real effort round school with wombling
:D Make sure I do one nice thing for someone today
    :D Make time for exercise
:D Make time for some crafty stuff
    Have a good day everyone!
  • Morning All,

Hope everyone survived their first day back at work yesterday :)

We had a NSD yesterday and today should hopefully be the same. Trying to teach the old dog (hubby) new tricks is painfully difficult ;):o

    Todays list:
We are off to the in-laws (hubby parents) for two free meals today.
    Washing on.
    Online banking checked.
    NSD.
A bit of housework (we live in a small flat) :)

Hope everyone has a lovely day. Stay safe and keep smiling.
    Pace :)
    Money scares me.

    Honesty update will arrive shortly......:o

Hi Cat  Thanks for starting us off :A

Pixie - I hear ya! My hubby was the very same until about 2 weeks ago!! I think he is finally starting to figure it out since he's we've started using YNAB and he's got a much clearer picture of exactly where our money is. Even just a couple of days ago he had something and I asked where he got it - he replied "I bought it...it was pre-YNAB" - that made me chuckle - implying that he wouldn't buy it now because he knows we have no money! It's not that we are suddenly poorer, it's just that we can see it more clearly! Anyway, I digress, enough of me rabbiting on :o

Big hello to everyone else  It's been so nice to see the thread so busy recently. :)

So far this morning I have:
    :) Reconciled YNAB
:) Cheapo porridge brekkie - added a splash of water to stretch out the milk because I'm cool like that :p
:) Got momentarily shocked when I thought about how much bad-for-you cereals are compared to cheapo healthy porridge
:) Don't need to wash my hair
:) Used coconut oil as facial cleanser with industrial-sized vat of oil - not the little tubs you buy for £10ish
:) Going to leave for work a bit earlier - less traffic = less petrol = cheaper...right?!
:) Made packed lunch with leftover ham ;)
:) Leftover HM curry in the fridge defrosting for baked potato topping later

Will update on lunch with some more money-saving gems I can think of :D

    Have a good day frugalistas!

  • Thanks Ziggy - but I have no idea how to share a picture on here :o

  • Thanks for the moral support La escocesa :)

It's a comfort to know I am not alone in here. ;)
    Money scares me.

    Honesty update will arrive shortly......:o
  • Afternoon all, and thanks CCL for the post of the day.

Mrs SPL will not make meal plans or limit herself to a weekly grocery shop, so our food spending wouldn't look out of place in the local barracks budget. Still, not sure I want to argue with someone who chops vegetables with a cleaver

Today is kinda the same as yesterday:
    :( Pay boy-the-younger's nursery fee
:) (Be ready to put in the expense claim for said nursery fee)
:) Brought in lunch - delicious
:( Finish updating accounts. VPN was slow yesterday, so didn't manage to get all statements down before sleep o'clock.

But first... specifications to review, oh rapture!

    Morning all :)
Thanks for the start CCL :)

    For me today:
    See to hens
Check banks, I am waiting for a cashback credit card to be cleared via direct debit, and then I can close it (the fee has risen to the extent that the cashback offered no longer covers it, unless the cardholder spends considerably more than I do )
    Dog walks x 2
Washing out on line if not raining, on airer if wet
Take a bag of carp to the CS (I will find a few more things to put in it before it goes though!)
Postal survey tasks, online surveys and check FPL
No cooking today (except for below) as we have various leftovers that will do for dinner, with a jacket spud :)
Need lettuce and mayo, so won't manage a NSD. Will also look to see if I can get a couple of packs of Christmas cards in the sales :)
DD2's birthday today, so see her at some point :)
Cook, portion and freeze a red cabbage I bought for Christmas and didn't use (I know :o)
    Housework

That lot should keep me busy! Hope you all have a good day :)
