eBay - New User - Collection Items

To be fair to Game, I traded in a few games when I went to get Halo 5, I thought, £20, £30 maximum for them - I got £50-odd, around a tenner over the price of the game (plus I had a £20 pre-order because I was stupidly going to get the one with the statue, but later came to my senses and downgraded to normal), so just added something like a fiver for the Collectors version at £80. I then checked over the receipt, FIFA games, understandably cheap, but Ryse, got a £10 for it, Lords of the Fallen (terrible game I got with a gift voucher one time), got £13 for it.
Ah right, not badPersonally, I'd have sold them for more, but like I said I don't often trade in unless I can get more cash that way and I always go for the highest amount. Course, it's not as quick as trading in and I'm trying to get rid of games rather than trading in for others so...lol.

If you read the sticky thread I referred to above then you would know you can't state 'cash only', if you put that you risk your listing being pulled.
I think you will be lucky to get a third of the original cost on a sofa I would have thought nearer 10-20 % of the original price but I wish you well. Just remember to factor in ebay FVFs which remain payable even if you refuse the sale.
I've seen loads that say that. Best to word it differently though.
It used to state in the help pages that cash on collection was best, but I don't know if it still does. Considering they do (or at least, used to) agree cash is best I don't know why for collection only items they don't allow you to remove Paypal. Afterall, you don't have to accept Paypal for vehicles.0 -
I bought my sofa on eBay and paid £650.00 for it, granted it was a £3k suite but was 4 years old (end of the DFs credit term probably) you may get what you want for the sofa on eBay not everybody is a scammer. Put a reserve on the item to ensure you don't get below what you want. Good luck.0

Better to start the price at the lowest you're willing to accept. You pay the reserve whether it sells or not.0 -

Every Sofa I've seen (even tonight) that is second hand and not sold via. a company who can arrange delivery, seem to have "cash only on collection" somewhere in the description, and the descriptions are very brief.
I put in the search terms for mine, and just looked at the top 10 below it, all have it stated in the description.
Given the other options are a cheque (no chance), and I can't remember the third option, not even sure what it was to be fair.
With how easy it seems it would be to scam on eBay, especially when it comes to collection, it surprises me that it is against (or sounds like it's against) eBay policy to put cash on collection. It also surprises me that they have the option for collection on there but very little, if not any protection for the seller.
I was talking about it to colleagues today and one (strangely) admitted to claiming he never received a PS3 (he said this was a few years back), even though he did. Because they never got a signature on delivery, he claimed the money back and kept the PS3. Pretty scummy in my opinion, but at the same time, the seller should have insisted on signature.

This is what I'm doing, if it doesn't sell after two listings, I will lower it anyway, needs to be gone by the end of Feb anyway, but it's at the minimum the missus wants for it, beyond that we just need to get rid and can't hold on until the last minute.Professional Data Monkey

You could take that two ways though. Cash only on collection - only option is cash and collection. Or collection is an option, but I only want cash if you opt to do that (meaning paying by Paypal would still be an option as you may not collect). While they no doubt mean the first, it's not as bad as just "cash only" which implies no matter what you only want cash and Paypal is not considered (which ebay dislike because...well, fees lol).

It's the cash only bit they dislike as they force Paypal as an option.
It's more so the buyer who has little protection once they've handed over the cash as it's sold as seen.
It is - or was - stated on the ebay pages that cash was best for collection items and that if a case was opened that the seller would most likely win as the buyer has had a chance to view and could have refused to buy.

You wouldn't need a signature to win that case, just a tracking number that shows proof of delivery.
In that case the buyer scammed the seller and that's completely wrong. The seller was an idiot to have not sent the item via a tracked method, but that's no excuse to scam them. I don't know how people can live with themselves when they do things like that...that seller could have been anyone. Perhaps a private seller who really needed that money and because of a little mistake they lost hundreds of pounds.
People don't think of the seller though, they see ebay as a massive business or a platform of big business sellers who can take the hit and forget that that isn't always the case. Even if it were that doesn't make it right anyway.0 -

I've technically worded it incorrectly then, but if they take it down, I'll reword it and repost it - or I'll just put it somewhere else because the more I'm learning about how eBay works, the more I'm glad I avoided it all this time, and may just rely on it as a last resort if I struggle to get rid by the end of the month.
Problem is I've got more items which are too big to send out by courier and would be collection only, the Sofa is the thing we need to get rid of as priority so listed quickly, we can go down alternative routes with the other stuff if eBay are being stubborn about it. Might as well test the water anyway.

You are overthinking this. Ebay state that paypal must be offered on all items apart from those in certain categories like motor vehicles. They also state you cannot refuse payment by any method that you have given in your listing.
Add to that the fact that paypal will show as the default and if buyer decides, for any odd reason, to go through checkout they will get a big fat 'pay now' button that takes them automatically to paypal to pay.
By all means do more research if you don't believe us, after all ebay don't police their auctions so any 'incorrect ' wording is unlikely to be picked up .
