    Morning.

Although we have had no snow it is freezing here, CH and wood burner is on and i'm sat in a thick jumper with a chunky cardigan on top. DH has promised me we will retire to a warmer climate. Decided that I can put off food shop until tomorrow when I drop DS off at rugby, so i'm staying put today.

Had another grocery spend yesterday of £10.65, needed some extra fruit as what was in the veg box last week didn't quite last us, cereal bars and cheese, need to have a tot up but pretty sure we are under £100 for the week again.
Been through the freezer and have made a menu plan for the week, grocery shopping should be a low spend this week, I have a veg box, milk and butter being delivered today.

    To do today
    Finances.
    Mount Washmore
    sweep/mop down stairs
    surveys
    clean bathroom
    stick rug grippers to rug.
    meal plan/shopping list.

    To do this weekend -
    ebay listings
    Surveys
Passport forms for me and DH.

    Finances today -
70p TT to general savings, £0 to holiday savings. $10/£7.40 amazon vouchers received,
    Weekly Grocery budget 19/1/18 - 25/1/18 £100/£31.25
    NSD 5
    personnel spends £50/£36.90.
  • Morning.

I have been reading diaries over the weekend, just not posting as i'm in a complete downer, feel totally fed up and can't really put my finger on what it is i'm fed up about. I just have this feeling of hopelessness. Maybe its hormones, little things niggling at me, DH is driving me mad with his sports activities and total lack of awareness of how his 'I want to do my thing' effects the family, He was out Wed,Thurs evening, all day yesterday and out again tonight.
I've overspent this weekend, totally blown the grocery budget out of the water, needed new glasses but instead of getting ones I get free with my contact lens, I decided to go with some designer ones that I love and really suit me. Ok because I purchase contact lenses I got them for £35 instead of £99, but it's still £35 when I could of got different ones free, I paid cash not CC, I can afford them but why do I feel so guilty and annoyed with myself.
I've done a TT of 36p this morning and have made some ebay sales so there is money to go to hols pot, but I havn't sorted postage and fees so need to work that out.

Will go and get a shower and then get on with finances.

    Hi Penny,

This is my first time writing on the forum although I have been following a few diaries for a couple of years but I felt compelled to write when I read your diary this morning.
I think you need to realise what a strong and wonderful person you are and considering what life has thrown at you over the last year I'm amazed you only have the odd weekend of feeling down.
Years ago after the death of my father some body said to be "Be kind to yourself", its advice I try (and some times fail) to follow. Look after yourself and spoil your self occasionally, £35.00 for a pair of glasses is a bargain in my eyes.
You have inspired me over the last couple of years with your money saving but taking care of yourself should be a priority, you need to be strong for your family and can only do that if you look after yourself.

P.s. Husbands sometimes need it spelt out to them that they are being selfish they really don't understand they are otherwise!

Try and take some time out fryer self today.
    Sending you huge hugs x

Ok finances have been done -

Sat spends M&S £16ish (can't find receipt and not showing on bank account yet). Sainsbury £60.30 this could have been less if I had gone to aldi instead and DH/DS hadn't been with me . £8 poundland, so a total grocery spend of £84.30 . On a positive this can be clawed back next week as I will reduce my budget and we can eat lots out of the freezer.
Specsavers - New designer glasses, totally gorgeous and cost £35 instead of £99, positive is because I have contacts with them eye tests and contact lens test was free and glasses are hugely reduced.
ebay spends £1.99 +£3 PP on a weekend bag, had been looking at a similar one in the sales £16, positive bargain bag that I used earnt ebay money to purchase so actually cost me nothing :D.

    Sunday was a NSD :j.

Meal plan for rest of week-
Mon - leftover pork from sun rst in baguette, wedges, salad.
    Tue- chicken tagliatelle
Wed - Curry and fried rice(prawn or beef whichever I find first in the freezer).
    Thurs - sausage, mash &veg.

Cheese, tuna and ham for pack ups, plenty of chocolate, cereal bars, fruit and crisps. Lots of soup, pasta and curry in freezer for my lunches. I have a £10 prepaid mastercard to top up DS lunch account tomorrow.

    To do today
    Finances.
    wrap ebay parcels.
    Mount Washmore x3 loads.
    surveys
    Ironing.
    List ebay
    Surveys

    To do this week -
    ebay listings
    Surveys
Passport forms for me and DH. stop procrastinating and get this done.

    Finances today -
36p TT to general savings, £11 to holiday savings.
    Weekly Grocery budget 19/1/18 - 25/1/18 £100/£115.25
    NSD 6
    personnel spends £50/£36.90
  • Oh penny feel free to be as fed up as you like, you have a lot on your plate and despite being in recovery I think others forget quickly that actually the recovery process is as important and you can become overwhelmed with everything. Speak to hubby about his sporting activities, is it seasonal and just a busy period or always so busy? Remind him you need some time out too.

You've already rectified the shopping spends so onwards and upwards and £35 for glasses is not bad at all, enjoy your new pair!

Can the kids help a bit more around the house, and make sure you have regular breaks during the day, get some fresh air down the park.

Right I will stop telling you what to do now, have a lovely day!

As a previous poster said, its fine to have the occasional wobble and its therapeutic to have a cry now and then. Try and do something nice for yourself today and you'll soon be feeling a bit more positive.

I think treating yourself to new glasses is a good think and £35 isn't a lot of money in the grand scheme of things. I think its really important to fill your life with happiness and nice things. Same with your shopping spends. So what if you occasionally blow the budget? Life would be pretty boring if you were sensible all the time and you do well most of the time, so you shouldn't have to justify the occasional splurge, even to yourself.

He plays all year but this week has been mental 2 matches, training and then a tournament all day yesterday and another match tonight, he has promised me Feb is quieter.

I'm going to stop beating myself up about it and I will wear them lots as I do need them (blind as a bat without).

Yes they could do a bit more, they do have chores, but being teenagers sometimes the battle is more exhausting than if I had done the task myself. Although DS is in for a shock when he comes home from school as I asked him to put away all his clean washing last night and hang up school shirts, everything has been thrown on top of his drawers when I went to put some things in his room earlier so i've removed his xbox controllers, not going to say anything until he notices them missing;).

Right I will stop telling you what to do now, have a lovely day!

Thanks Chanie, i'm starting to feel a bit brighter. I've had a good talk to myself, i'm going to look for a film to watch on Netflix and this afternoon i'm going to sit in front of the fire with a latte, bar of choc and a good film.
I've also told myself that if I wear my glasses everyday which I do as I take my contacts out as soon as I get in from work, that's 365 days so that's less than 1p a day and my last pair of glasses I have had 2 years before the prescription changed so that's less than 0.5p a day, so I need to stop stressing.

Glad you're feeling a bit brighter this evening Pennywise.

Do NOT feel bad re the glasses, youve named all the positives in your post i.e. paying cash etc and I'm pretty sure youve done without for long enough xx
