Is online cat food cheaper?

Hello!
I normally buy dry cat food at the supermarket, but recently wondered whether it would be cheaper to buy online?
Does anyone buy online and find it cheaper?
I have an amazon prime account so might investigate there first. ..

Occasionally, Pets at Home have online only offers on some brands, but I think you need a minimum spend to avoid delivery charges.


There are also some sellers who deal online only, but it all depends on what you want to buy.

Not had much luck at Amazon recently - I used to buy loads of pet stuff there (esp on subscribe & save) but since the free delivery amount went up, it's not worth it

Their prices also don't seem to be very competative just now either for some reason

Loads of good online suppliers around - have a look at Zooplus and Zoofast - it amazes me that I can buy food that's made in the UK cheaper in Germany / Poland than I can buy it here!

Litter is also much cheaper at both

Thanks! Will have a look at zoopla etc... I have amazon prime so no postage to pay- didn't think about the subscribe thing on there as I've never done it, but that does drop the price again, doesn't it.

Pets at home online is another good idea, it's somewhere I tend to pop into the store occasionally and they always seem expensive so I'll keep my eyes open for offers.

Any other ideas welcome!

I use zoo plus. I put 10kg portia 21 grain free (60% meat). For £30.

That's £3 per kg of high meat content grain free food. I couldn't buy anything even remotely close to that price in the shops.


Amazon can have the odd bargain. They had 7.5kgnof applaws chicken for £20 last month.


P@H charge £10+ for 1.5kg of grain free food.

I buy 5kg (three month) bags for £30 from Zooplus - £10 cheaper than Pets at Home.

I also have a three-year 7% discount at Zooplus from their weird loyalty discount scheme, so it's actually less than £30.

I'd say it depends what food you buy. If you buy a basic dry food from the supermarket, you may not find food much cheaper online. If you buy a particular premium brand, you're more likely to get it for less.

So zoopla, amazon and the supermarket seem like a good mix to me.
The cats have a varied dry food diet as they tend to get bored with one type if they have it for too long, so whatever is on offer would be ideal for them!

Do have a look at wet food too - it's really much better for them in the long term and doesn't have to break the bank

Zooplus especially has a huge selection of wets and great prices

Butchers Classic from the supermarket is a really decent, cheap wet food as well

We also use zooplus for the hills science plan diet, both our kitties love it and it is so mich cheaper on there. I can' comment on wet food as I never buy it because it makes one of our cats very ill so we feed both of them tuna, chicken breast, beef etc to supplement their diet.

Another vote for Zooplus, I get all my food and litter from there - if you spend over £29 it's free delivery (via Yodel) but if you spend over £39 you can opt for free delivery via DPD.

With DPD you get a text/email on the day they are due to deliver with a 1 hour window, if that's not convenient you can get it delivered another day, get it delivered to a neighbour, tell them to leave it in your designated 'safe place' and a new option is to deliver it to a 'DPD parcel shop' the next morning - in my area the parcel shops are Halfords branches and various small local shops.

Zooplus also offer a discount if you spend over £75 (code you need is on their website) and they sometimes offer you the chance to join a discount club. My offer was 7% off for the next 3 years and think it cost £10 or something silly, plus you can go through Quidco each time you order too for a small amount of cashback.
