Best PAYG Provider for Low-Volume Users?

The recent trend seems to be towards mandated frequent top-ups, in effect like a contract, to maintain free intra-mobile service for those using the same provider. Examples: Lyca (monthly), Giffgaff (quarterly). Talkmobile offers 10p connection up to one hour but does not state the top-up frequency -- does anyone know?

Since I only have a 2G phone, I cannot use Three's 3p per minute flat-rate voice service. Do any other providers offer this rate?

When I accidentally had this happen to my SIM, I hadn't used it for a good while and the credit disappeared, I phoned customer service and they'd reinstated it within minutes and I was up and running again; very helpful staff.

Whilst there is increased emphasis on bundles, on PAYG services, very few actually require monthly bundle purchases - even those you've mentioned

  • Thanks for the replies. I would tend to avoid companies offering free calls between same-provider sim-cards. They don't make any money doing this, so there is a strong temptation (before too long) to insist on regular top-ups, which could be £10 per month, by both calling parties. That's £240 a year!

Delight's 3p per minute flat rate for most voice calls looks good. Any satisfied customers?

Delight does what it says on Tin. But given that you have a strange idea that networks will insist on regular top ups. You may want to avoid them. As they offer Free Calls and Texts between Customers.:D

nvr mind the price, my advice would be stay well clear of VectoFv%% and its "sister" Delight"- CS and whole firm is one Bombay takeaway affair.
TalkMobile, only using it for a day- awesome, but minimum 10p charge might spoil the broth
  • The SIM card Delight sent me did not receive any signal in my 2G Nokia 6310i. Or could be a dud. Not a good start. Will try Talkmobile next at 10p an hour.
