Upbeat article published on the Shell situation post merger.
I'm sure the conspiracy theorists will say, "Well yes, but they would wouldn't they"
Nice bounce in the SP.
Nice divi (for the moment), slight increase due to £/$
EDIT: And, all you loverly ex-BG shareholders benefit from the nice divi :TPersonal Responsibility - Sad but True

Indeed, im happy with the result and once the dust starts to settle i think it will be fine.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Lets remember Shell spent around half a billion dollars on pushing this deal through, much of it trousered by the spivs recommending it. BG Shareholders have done alright out of it too, because Shell paid them a huge premium for their shares.
Shell's share price remains well below what is was before they announced the deal.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

Your point being....
Yes, as is often the case when a company puts in a bid. Your point being....
Yes, pretty much like the FTSE100, and a large number of other FTSE100 stocks. Your point being....

I didn't think it needed explaining but here goes. Many of those recommending this deal have a vested interest. The sort of premium Shell paid for BG is not 'often the case' in takeover bids either.
Adding value depends largely on Shell managing BG better than BG management did, which I find hard to believe. Because the huge premium BG management extracted from Shell suggests to me they were the better managers.
Compare it with Sainsbury's recent bid for Home retail for example. They didn't start out with an opening offer of a 50% premium in a fallng market!!“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

If they had lost where would that have left their over-arching strategy? It's not like they can just go out and find another national retail outlet with a market leading distribution network (which, after all was what Sainsbury's was after).
The long and the short of this is.... Yes Shell paid a significant premium to BG SP when the PoO continued to drop to extreme low levels.
Only time will tell if Shell made a good purchase or not and the victors will write history accordingly.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

Hey guys, I know this thread as been on over 2 years..my Gran recently found a certificate saying my grandad bought nearly 3000 shares in 1999 unfortunately he passed away in 2004
Is there a way she can find out if he (or her) still own these shares?

Equinity are the registrar's for Royal Dutch Shell. With the physical share certificate (details) you may be able to check the validity of the shares/share certificate online using the Equinity share portal at Shareview (https://www.shareview.co.uk).
Alternatively, you'll need to ring them.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True
