As the payee name will be totally ignored by all banks (only sort code and account number are used), you can name your payees with meaningful information.

E.g. if the account name is John Smith, sort code X, acct number Y, you could have the following payee names:
    - JS monthly
    - JS quarterly
    - JS one-off
    - JS XMAS pay
    etc etc

I usually include the last 4 digits of my account number, e.g.
    - My Santa 5678
    - My Santa 3456
    - My Lloyds 1234
    - My BOS 4567
    - My BOS 4568
    - My BOS 4569

I have tons and tons of such payees, at around two dozen different banks.
I thought everyone did this :).

we wouldn't have that thread if they did.
  • I thought changes were supposed to make things easier??

    They DO make things easier.

For the bank that is. Lloyds and Halifax and Bank of Scotland now have the same online banking interface which makes it easier (hence cheaper) for the bank to support. It's just not as good for the users but I guess they reckon that most people don't choose their bank according to how good the online banking is.

this has been so for years. Just a slightly different colour scheme, and sometimes some other cosmetic differences due to different releases on different servers. The main difference is different product offerings - something that's a whole lot more important than the way a website looks.

It's only TSB left with the legacy Lloyds TSB design (for now).

TSB will be changing to the Sabadell system when the systems integration is complete. I've no idea what their internet or mobile banking will be like, but hopefully it will be easy to use.

The latest changes are rubbish. Ostensibly done to make online banking more user friendly on smartphones it actually makes it look far worse if you are using a proper monitor.
When Yorkshire Bank went mobile friendly, they changed the layout dependent on the window width. This actually makes it easier to use on a monitor, as I can have the bank page and a spreadsheet open alongside each other, instead of overlapping. I was hoping Lloyds/Halifax would do this, but no. :(

You actually think the Clydesdale/Yorkshire interface is good?

I'm guessing we'll see a variant of this:

I think it's a load of rubbish. I thought Co-op's was bad, but it was simpler than the Yorkshire Bank one.

May be it's a UK implementation of a NAB system? It looks and feels very different to any other UK bank's online banking. I only use it once a month so it's always "an experience" to find my way round the site. I suppose I'd find it easier to use if I did use it regularly.
