Medical procedure still not pleasant but carried out by an absolutely lovely female doc!! Nothing conclusive yet but looking better than it was.

The wind is such here that it nearly caused a car accident. A bid bit of hardboard was being blown along the road and it flew into a car - the poor driver was blinded for several moments and there was traffic coming the other way. The lead car braked and so did the blinded car - some twit behind the lead car sounded his horn. The blinded car driver and the lead car driver got out and removed the hardboard from the front of car 1. They were looking for somewhere to put it I got them to brake it up and put it in my front garden and I will take it to tip next time I go! Twerp behind stuck his head out of the window and started shouting the odds. Had to laugh as a very large builder type who lives along the road was just comming out of the local shop. He stuck his head into twerps car and told him to shut the ** up! The guy is actually ok - a gentle giant - but looks v frightening! Twit shut up and sat still!! :D

Making do - finished up the last of the chocolate cake and will be able to make that lucious sounding pineapple one tomorrow! :D
    Minimise - chocolate cake???? :rotfl:
    Mend - nowt!
Will get down to it tomorrow!

Nursemaggie, does your hot water tank have a coat? It should stay hot longer than that. Could you do an experiment with the storage heaters by turning everything on high overnight for just one night and see how long they take to cool down? If they don't stay warm all day, there is something wrong with them and your landlord needs to get them fixed. I'm really worried that you're not keeping warm enough.

Yes the hot water tank has a very thick jacket and the cupboard it is in is always cold. I really don't think it gets hot. I also don't think the heater in the living room gets very hot. They claim to have tested everything.

I have the intake set at the highest. If I turn output high we will roast all night and it will be cold all day.

Lyn beware that pineapple cake is to die :) for I have sliced and frozen some, or I would have scoffed the lot.
Making a vat of celery soup this morning for next weeks lunches,I am out dining tonight at my sis-in-laws at Faversham She rang and said time we had our 6 monthly catch-up, we are off to a pub/restaurant called The Limes for dinner Its coming out of my Happy Cash Stash so my food budget stays intact.
Made a few more squares for the charity blanket last night, and made do with a sheps pie from the freezer for dinner.
Almost February so spring will soon be here fingers crossed
    Cheers chums

Lolly - I don't know how to do links but here goes! If you go to the first page on this thread there is a link to last years thread. On the first page there is a list of all the lovely recipes that people have posted. The Granny Cake is on there!
Gonna have to try the Pineapple cake as its so well recommended!
Thanks for that How much - FF is not near me but I will go by during the week. I'll probably get a tin in Lidly to try the recipe out.

Anyone seen Viv about? She used to post regularly. Hope everything is OK with her.

BigStu it's probably better if you ask in the Essential Money part of the forums as there are posters there with similar questions

This made me laugh - so funny but could have been so serious. There really are some idiots about on the roads.
I've been away for a few days to Center Parcs with family: mum, OH, DD1 and DD2 and her boyfriend. Not quite MMM but we did get it cheap(er) and had a great time. We made do with food we brought from home, including fish pie, hotpot, some chicken and mince and I took the slow cooker. We only needed to spend on milk and a bit of bread and drinks when we were out and about. Irritatingly, I forgot to take my knitting and the book I am reading but Winterwatch on the telly came to the rescue and I had my kindle with me so found something new.
    For today:
Make do: some tomatoes and lettuce left so I'm making tomato soup and then salmon from the freezer with a salad for tonight's tea.
Mend: two lightbulbs had gone in the study so I found replacements only to find one of the bulbs had snapped off in the light fitting. Managed to get the broken screw part out of the fitting with pincers and replaced the bulbs. I do need to find more energy saving lights for this.
Minimise: I'm going to sow some herb seeds in a few mushroom trays I've collected. Any tips on basil? I've never been really successful with this.
