Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2016

Morning.
Everyone sounds like they have been busy.
MMM here has been mainly drama related. The set has been constructed with repurposed wood and odds and ends, only spent money on silver table cloth (heavily reduced in dune!m ) for the spaceship and curtain rings and cord for the beanstalk. That was lots of making do. I also minimised a number of empty or dried out paint tins to the tip.
I have also mended one of the costumes someone tore on first use.
I made do at home by using the remaining half of a reduced pack of pastry to make jam tarts with some quince jelly from 2013 that was starting to crystallise. I also made some pasties to reduce my reliance on sweets to get me through a busy week. Anything that's in the fridge ready to go is really needed.
Will probably see you all next weekend, it's panto week. Have a wonderful MMM week and I look forward to catching up with what everyone has been up to soon X£400,000 starting Jan 2020 current end date Aug 2041 I would love the end date to be 2027 but will aim first for 2037.
1% target £4000 so far £20 paid0 -
Morning all
Caterina sorry to hear about the moths invading your knitting stash how annoying and frustrating but I'm glad you found it and cleared them out before they got any further.
Still working on running down the freezer and cupboards so meal planning to minimise some of the items that are lurking in them.
Plan today is to finish folding the next lot of books the CS gave me, I took the first batch in over the weekend manager was really pleased and said they should sell and will make a lovley pre Valentine display for their craft event I guessed she wanted a few more so as soon as I offered she almost dragged me into the stock room to look for hardback books with her.
A pom-poms fell of my glove but luckily I spotted it so need to get that sewn back on.
Better go and make a start on something I suppose, have a good day.SPC~12 ot 124

Morning all,
Very pretty sunrise here this morning. I've also notice the sunsets are getting later, always nice when that starts to be apparent.
I've already answered work e-mails this morning and I've started a load of laundry, unloaded the dishwasher, and had a quick tidy of the bits downstairs from this morning/last night. I'm just having my porridge now. I started this routine a few months ago and it really seems to work--the kitchen stays tidier if I do the dishwasher while I make my breakfast as it means lunch dishes can go straight in.
I work this afternoon and have a few bits of work from home tasks to get done before then. OH does tea tonight. He is doing carrot and kidney bean stew with dumplings.
I got a fair amount of knitting done yesterday afternoon, hopefully I'll be able to get the cardigan blocked by next weekend and start the next phase.
I don't know if any of that is MMM, but I'll also be combining bus journeys, eating leftovers for lunch, taking my snack in and generally avoiding any need for saying goodbye to my pennies.0 -
Morning everyone
MAKING DO - I have dry skin on my hands and use hand cream every time they've been in water. I was given Body Butter as a Xmas present and would normally have given it to a charity shop but my sister said she uses it as hand cream. I've started using it as hand cream and it works really well.
MENDING - Kind of ! I sewed up a jumper I've just knitted for granddaughter to put by for a Xmas present.
MINIMISING - I found another stash of knitting wool in the under stair cupboard. I've made a list of what I'm going to knit with it and posted it on the knitting thread. This is to make sure that I knit all this wool before starting something else.
I am doing my first food shop of 2016 today and am going to the
Co-op instead of my normal Aldi and Tesco. I bought car insurance in November and got £50 in Co-op vouchers free. I don't really need a full shop as freezer and cupboards still pretty full.
The money I save from my shopping budget will be going towards paying for the boiler repair. I'm still waiting for the bill - the engineer was out about 6 times but part of the repair will be covered by the guarantee of an earlier fault in July. I have no idea what's it's going to cost but should have the bill this week.
Have a nice day xxDebt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

Thought this might interest the sewers among us. This young lady is 18 and started sewing 3 years ago and is self taught!! Takes sewing to a whole new level and makes me feel that creative skills will not be lost

Wow silvasalva, those costumes are amazing! And to think she's only been sewing a few years. It's great that there are new young people who are interested in doing crafts of all sorts.
We have minimized a lot of rubbish from the garden. We filled some trugs about half full with builders' rubbish and did a couple of trips to the tip this morning. Looks much better but will need another session to finish off.

Wow what a talented young lady, great to see youngsters having a go at things. They get such a bad press at times, but there are so many hard-working kids out there ,given the chance they can too make their mark in the world
The cake was lovely and I have been playing freezer tetris to make sure I don't 'minimise' it all this week
Sis-in-laws birthday card allmade from my craft stash, and DGS 's buttons sewed on his blazermy youngest DD doesn't even own a needle and thread as she loathes sewing ,so I get the 'stitch in time' jobs

What a talented young lady, thank you for sharing that.
I've finished folding the books and covered all six plus added ribbons so more paper and ribbon used from my stash. Plus the books will now all go back to the CS and hopefully be sold to raise funds for them.
Doing mushroom stroganoff for tea to minimise some of the YS mushrooms we got at the weekend also managed to minimise some of a bottle of mulled wine I won in a Christmas raffle by putting a good glug in the stroganoff
Tonight's plan is knitting/reading and possibly be watching a DVD which hopefully will then go in the CS bag or be given to a friend.
Dd2 has dropped off three carriers full of spare clothes to take to the local primary, what they don't want will go to the CS at the weekend.SPC~12 ot 124
