Thanks for the explanation vitamin_joe
Not much MMMing going on here but enjoying reading what everyone else is getting up too. My winter jacket is in desperate need of repair again - pocket is needing mending again plus a couple of buttons need sewing on. Obviously my mending skills need improving as my repairs aren't lasting long
Me and OH have decided the next thing to minimise is our DVD collection, we have a lot but probably only watch a quarter on a regular basis so just need to find some time now to do that. Work unfortunately is super busy at the moment and will continue that way throughout January, possibly February so time is in short supply at the moment!Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.7.25 - £106,653.66
Mortgage overpayment savings - £33.53/£50
Mortgage overpayments so far - £612.990 -
Mending job for tomorrow: on one of my aprons the tape that goes over your neck has broken. I found some old tape in my sewing box so will use that. DD1 also has work trousers that need hemming so will get on with those.
I'm going to tackle my under stairs cupboard tomorrow which seems to be full of shoes/boots that nobody seems to put away:mad:- I may be gone for some time:eek:Books - the original virtual reality.

Thank you so much re the wind up Gardeners World Radio - the BBC shop dont do it anymore but the nearest I can find is about £70! So will have to wait for my birthday (November) and get contributions towards one!
dizzytina - welcome to one of the most supportive places on the net!
Jackie O - your GS will get access to the CAMRA web site which is searchable for local Breweries - in the meantime any member of the public can go into WhatPub.com which is compiled by pubs officers like me who has visited most pubs in the area (or other members of the CAMRA Branch) who will have reviewed the pub and put a description of it on there. I would at first pick the ones which have been in the GBG (Good Beer Guide). No pub can pay for entry; no non CAMRA person can make entires so this web site gives an acurate picture of real ale pubs whereas other web sites appear to be impartial but are either sponsored by individual pubs or by pubcos or anyone with no knowledge of beers can put any old rubbish on there. Tell GS to go on a couple of branch socials - its a great way to get to know the best locals!!!
Hope this helps the Branch in that area are very active!
Been v busy today - another viewing - teaching this eve and, finally, an offer that is reasonable!!! Phew!
Making do - eating from supplies and using craft stuff to make a thank you card for my Christmas hosts as they will soon be back from their - New Year holiday in their other house in St Lucia (yep how the other half live!!)
Mend - did holes in socks!!! its where the coloured ankle meets the body of the sock - the toes are fine!
Minimise - well its a very hard job but there is only me here to do it - am slowly getting down the Christmas chocolate - am eating 3 per night - only 3 Hotel Chocolat ones to go (a gift!! not a purchase!!!) :rotfl:
More mending lined up for tomorrow!

Today I had to minimise and mend the dogs bed, got home from work she had only been on her own for two hours, following a long walk and she has started chewing the label. Followed by pulling out all the stuffing.
I managed to sew it back together ......for now.0 -

I've been over to DD's and collected a snow suit which DGS has out grown and put it for sale on the local Facebook selling site. Well someone's coming to collect it tomorrow so that another £8 for his clothes pot. I think it stood at £135 last time I counted. Well little ones are in and out of their clothes in no time and then some are seasonal too. So what fitting last year are too small this. I managed to get him this years snowsuit in January 2015 in the sale at Debenhams it had 70% off so only paid £7.40 for it, I'll be able to sell it when it's out grown for more than that.
I got off the bus 4 stops early when I went over to get it so I could call at the co-op and pick her up the £5 frozen food deal she'd asked me to get. I had a 50p till spill from yesterday off a £4 spend and managed to get a Warburton whole meal loaf YS to 49p so DD got her deal and I got a free loaf for the freezer. I jumped on the next bus and then walked to her home, collected the said suit and caught then next bus home. So this was all done for free via the good old bus pass.
Oh and I got a free scented candle too, a young slip of a woman dropped it in the co-op car park (well on the path) its an air wick one. The glass broke when it hit the ground and the candle rolled away from her without the glass. I picked it up for her and said there you are, her reply was can you put it in the bin which I'd passed, she then said there's nothing I can do with that now. I looked at her and said oh ok then and in my bag in went. So I now have a new winter candle a little less wax than it should have but will burn perfectly in a tin.Why pay full price when you may get it YS0 -
Good day for you HOWMUCH!
My mending is on-going, I've taken all the sealant out of DDs shower, it's drying till tomorrow then I will attempt to re-seal it. It may take a couple of days to do but she has a bath with shower attachment so it doesn't matter.
Made do with food from the fridge, will have lo sausages and neeps later.
Minimised the odd sock basket, realised I didn't have any long work socks left so sorted through and made up 4 pairs, no idea why they were in there as they aren't odd!0 -

May I suggest wiping everywhere you will be reinstating sealant with meths on a piece of kitchen roll before you do so? This will remove any grease or dirt, and help the new sealant to stick.0 -
jk0, can I pick your brains, please? I know you look after your own rental properties so I'm guessing you can help me.
Mum's ceramic shower tray has a seal to the tiled walls which is now over 15 years old. It has gone a horrible browny-black which won't clean off, plus a few small pieces are starting to come away.
I'm going to be dealing with this for the folks at some point in the next few months. My thought was to dig the old sealant out (carefully!) with an implement before re-sealing. Mum (who is very handy but not well) seems to think that you dissolve the old sealant with something? I've never heard of doing it that way.
And, when ready to re-seal with new mastic, does it have to be meths for the wipe-down, or would white spirit be OK? And can you recommend a product to do the seal?
My parents are in their seventies now and I am going to have to be doing more of this kind of thing for them in the coming years. Which I don't mind at all, but I want to get it right first time.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
