They were just cheapies silvasava so I have a feeling they might just melt. Such a good idea though. I'm thinking of investing in gaiters to use with my walking shoes. I could use some gaiters anyway so I wouldn't just be buying for short term.

Can I add that one of my winter treats is simply to put the roast peppers with some of their oil on toast. All of the above recipes are excellent, but this is really simple and cheering!

  • Afternoon all,

Successful screen free night last night. I finished about 1/3 of a cardigan sleeve and listened to a radio drama. I felt very calm and relaxed at bedtime and am contemplating going to two screen free nights in a few months if the novelty hasn't worn off by then! I also know it is harder for me to distance myself from work and shut everything in my brain down when things are more stressful, so I won't jump in head first just yet.

I had a look at the two book websites and although they would buy a few of those we are getting rid of it wasn't enough to meet the minimum so I think we'll stick with charity shop drop offs for now.

I was trying to find something nice to do on Saturday--although all of the outdoor activities I fancy won't be particularly nice in the rain. I've saved up a few ideas for this summer but still haven't had an idea for tomorrow. Ideally I'd like to keep it quite cheap, so will keep stewing about that on the making do front. I've been cooped up at home all week since I'm working from home and still not at the gym just to shake the last of this cold off so I do feel like getting out. Maybe a tour of the nearby air raid shelters.

Fuddle I don't get on with wellies particularly well either. Mine (even fairly good quality ones) always seem to split. I had some with a lifetime guarantee for awhile but after getting a replacement for free only a few months in the same split happened again. I don't have any suggestions for your immediate problem.

Leek and pancetta risotto for tea tonight, uses up leeks intended for something last week that never got cooked.

Hmmm - if wellies don't suit how about those waterproof gardening shoes? They seem quite sturdy but would probably need thick socks!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

My friend bought it for me so don't know where or how much. It has Gardeners World on and is a torch as well. It's really good quality and is cased in rubber which was ideal when I had an allotment as I was always dropping it!:rotfl:
You would probably get one drone either a gardening or camping store. Hope that helps. I love mine.:D

My DD bought my DH some Gardners World stuff in the Boots Sale last January and he has received during the year as gifts. One was a wind up torch and wind up radio, I think he had those for Fathers Day and then a birdhouse and herb buckets and tray for his birthday.
On the mend front I've had sewing machine out again this repairing shopping bag handles and side seams. I've given them lovely square backward and forward stitching, so should last much longer.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

Fuddle, go for goretex gaiters if you possibly can, nylon ones will let water in fairly quickly if they are not coated with waterproofing.

FairyPrincess, are you anywhere near the East Lancashire Railway? The Flying Scotsman is beginning its first passenger trials there this weekend and next, and on 23 Jan is going from Manchester to Carlisle - we can't go this or next weekend but are planning to go & see it on that run.

I have a pair of those that I use when it snows and wear thick bed socks with them (I'm a real fashion icon aren't I).the way I look at it is they get more use than just sitting in the conservatory doing nothing for most of the year anyway so using them when the weather is bad is more sense They have thick ribbed soles as well so I am less likely to fall over at my age I don't bounce very well :):):)

Looks as though I am driving my DGS back to Uni tomorrow as my son-in-law has gone down with Man-flu.I hope the weather holds as I don't like motorway driving in the rain much.

Lyneplatinum, DGS Ben is going to join the Real Ale society at Uni and I said I'd ask you for recommendations as I know you are into Real Ale. Apparently Norwich has a good few small breweries in the city.

Spent under a tenner at the food shops today and as it was my first food shop of 2016 I am really pleased I will keep trying to eat from my store cupboards for awhile longer I think

TV tonight I taped the 2 Luther episodes and want to watch them whilst doing my knitting.

I used to mend the kids split wellies with glue from their bikes puncture repair kits. put the patch on the inside and then seal the split and if you can smear a bit of glue over the outside when the mend has dried then all the better!
it worked, but this was years ago when wellies were still made from rubber!
  • Hi Floss,

Thanks for the idea! I've had a look and it appears it would cost us a fair amount to get to the nearest station to see it. We're not that far but we'd have to get separate forms of public transit, ironically it would be cheaper for us to go to the seaside for the day.:p
