Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2016

Beef casserole turned out really well and I have three portions in the freezer as well as some for dinner tonight. Found a packet of semolina that will be used later today for pudding as well.I am being really strict with myself and using stuff up from the cupboards before buying anything else now.its surprising what you find when you have a good root around.
I have four cupboards that seem to be full of odds and ends so I am doing my best to find either a pudding or something towards a dinner in there .
Why have I got umpteen tins of chick peas and beans though ? I think a few chick pea curries may be on the menu in the coming month:):) plus a few three bean salads.
I also seemed to have cornered the market in rice, although I know my DD did donate to me several boxes of 'boil-in-the-bag' stuff that she had been sent in error on her online food shop and certain rice she's not keen on.But I will happily eat it especially with the curries, only problem is the bags seem to be for two portions at a time and I hate to bin the left over stuff as I wouldn't eat a whole bag at one sitting any ideas ?
No shopping required at the moment though which is good and I have enough oranges to see me over the weekend .
Trying to minimise my wool stash a bit as well. My holiday fund seems to be growing well at the moment and only 14 weeks until I go away with the family to the Isle of Wight on our annual holiday, fingers crossed the weather will be kinder than last year.
Right time for a cuppa, onwards and upwards chums

JackieO, my mum used to put cold l/o rice out for the birds in her garden. Another option is to have fried rice the next day, with a negg & any cold meat & veg2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Another grey day today - and very chilly but on the bright side, I have a long weekend off thanks to May Day Bank Holiday Monday
Making do - making oxtail soup with some YS oxtail pieces which DH picked up at Sainsbugs last night and some slightly elderly veg lurking in the veg box. If it stays fine,DH and I are going to collect some well composted three year old horse poo, free for the taking - we have a cunning plan to make our own grow bags using the compost to fill old zip up clothes and storage bags and to top up our borders.
Minimising - another large box of kondo'ed items to local animal charity for their next car boot sale
Mending - have a load of machine sewing to get through and I have bought a kilo of wheat this morning (for the princely sum of 50p) so I will be trying my hand at wheat bags this weekend and my hand sewing basket is full again so that will keep me busy most of the weekend and out of mischief
Wishing you all a lovely weekend x:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

Hello all you fellow MMMer's, we're having a nice relaxing weekend mainly enforced by the weather. I've still got to plan next weeks meals, I write them as a list on a post it note and just put a line through we we eat them, no set days or anything.
Make do still using HM food out of the freezer
Mend DD needs new elastic in a pair of her pj's
Minimise wool stash and taken some pots and pans I no longer use to DS house for them to have.
Well hugs to those who need one xWhy pay full price when you may get it YS0 -

So boil it in the bag as usual then what's left over when cold just freeze ? will it be ok to eat once defrosted and reheated ? I always thought you shouldn't reheat rice for some reason:(0 -

I freeze rice all the time. It comes out fine. Just cool it quickly in your refrigerator and then freeze.
Jackie I'm going to try your smoked salmon pasta recipe this week. It sounds so good!Overprepare, then go with the flow.

We had blue skies and sun yesterday so I put the washing out. I should have known better; I had hardly got in the house before it was raining:mad:
I went to Farm Foods to stock up on lots of frozen veg. They have a great range, compared to Aldi who only seem to do about 4 different veg. I remembered to take a money off voucher with me, so the saving gets siphoned off into the slush fund.
Make do: We had a unexpected, but welcome visitor last night. A 'birder' friend who had been in the area and called before catching the train home. We were having home made pizza and salad which I stretched by adding a few jacket potatoes.
Minimise: Still minimising my seed stash by sowing radishes and spring onions. With this cold weather though I'll be lucky if anything grows.
Have a good day everyone.Books - the original virtual reality.

Another idea is to portion up curry and rice together (perhaps side by side in a take away container) and freeze as a HM ready meal. I'm thinking you probably make more than a single portion of curry at a time.:)0 -
