    Happy New Year Frugalistas!!
Slow start today due to late night & have mostly devoted today to leisure & relaxation. A few money saving bits though:
*Sorted laundry & decided not to do any ironing. Haha. That's saved a bit of energy bill.
*Put all my lovely presents away, including lots of toiletries into my stash. Shan't need to buy much for the next few months.
    *Leftovers for breakfast & lunch.
*Cut up a pretty writing paper wallet which was destined for the bin to make 6 nice birthday gift tags.
*mr f requested a little knitted pouch for his new headphones. Made one from leftover sock yarn & a recycled button.
*Read a few mags which were gifted to me.
*All free leisure. Knitting, reading library book, watching blu-ray I received as a gift, watching another episode of a recorded tv series.
Colder here today. Lovely to pull the bedroom curtains first thing to see icy cars & white roofs instead of endless warm grey rainy days.
Here's to a good 2016. Let's all start how we mean to go on with the money saving.

  • A belated HNY to everyone,

We didn't go out last night either. Stayed in and had a quiet night in.

Today the OH and I have decorated the living room and kitchen. Fresh rooms for a fresh year. We checked in on-line for our holiday which leaves 5 weeks tomorrow. I booked it in April last year before I knew about the OH's debts!! Yikes. Booked the airport car parking for one week had an e-voucher for the airport car park which gave 60% off normal parking prices. Bonus.

I have made a strict budget for the year and at no stage will a credit card be used! That went through the shredder not so long ago.

The front of our fridge now has a huge monthly budget planner. I did it mainly to annoy the OH! He was surprised to realise I had already saved the money for our holiday. Well done me.

If people are looking for help to declutter their lives then I can highly recommend a book by Karen Kingston originally titled declutter your life. I used it four years ago, although I still have the husband!! LOL. Joking. I decluttered and felt so much better. We have a rule in our life if we buy or receive something new then something old that we've not used in a while goes. You'll be surprised how well it works. It's just a shame that I have just found out about the OH's debt issues but I will help him get there.

Hope everyone is well. Thanks for listening.

I slept in till late today, after going bed about 3am!

    So today I have done:

I am aiming to reduce my food bill and reduce waste so today I have done:
    - Batch cooked some bolognaise for freezer
    - Chopped up veggies and put them in the freezer
    - used up some going off spinach instead of using fresh in the sauce

I was going to have a NSD but had to get some more veggies for the bolognaise. But I spent about £1.50 today, wasn't tempted by anything else so that's good!

I've just had my (expensive) steak and about to have a Gu dessert (was on offer). I was going to have it last night for a new year's treat, but I got invited to my brother's instead.

    Hi All

No longer feeling so positive about our finances. DH and I have just had a meeting. Amazingly he is comfortable with our level of his business debt and sees no reason to make any changes at all. I started my journey to Debt Freeness about 3 years ago alone and seemingly will stay that way to the bitter end.

I have paid my CCs, my o/ds, my business finances are now in order. Just farm left. I have no control over DHs spending and he has no intention of making any adjustments to his life.

    Rant over.

    Hi,

I sometimes think business people don't take business debt that seriously, maybe because the perceived consequences of not been able to pay it, seem less severe than say with personal debt, after all, if a company folds owing money, and its assets don't cover its debts, then any potential creditor of that company really has very little chance of getting any of there money back.

We're as with personal debt, you can lose your house, worst case scenario, and be out on the street bankrupt.

On a personal note, I have instigated complaints to various olde payday loan lenders, for allowing me to borrow, when I was in financial difficulty, a few years ago, and not assessing my ability to repay correctly.

I have also, this week, changed electricity supplier, and saved £180 a year, potentially.

So a good start to the new year !!!

Haven't posted on these type of threads for years but really want to knuckle down and knock a few years off the debt free date. So hello everyone.

Today I have cut my eldest's hair.
Cut my own hair and dyed it using dye I had bought online at boots. Should have been 2 for £10 but a glitch meant I got 2 for £7 and I bought via quidCo using a cash back card so should get a further 8% back eventually.
Food was all from stuff already in the house.
Did a bit of decluttering and took a couple of photos of things to sell.
