  • Thanks Wildthing and Nurse Maggie. I bought the water whilst we were waiting in the A&E department. After a bit of a wait we were moved to a ward where water was available and Dad was also given a sandwich.

Doing my best not to buy anything this month at all if I can help it .U3A coffee morning this morning but I have vouchers to use up at Dobbies so coffee will be a freebie :)
No food shopping to buy at all at the moment as I did my big shop last weekend.Hanging on to my cash as I am off on my spring break next month to Staffordshire with my oldest friend. I've been looking through the cupboards and there's quite a few things we can take with us as we are self-catering:) Hopefully the weather will perk up a bit

  • Happy to report that my ald1 shower gel will be staying on my shopping list. :j Not quite as zingy as our usual brand, but does the job and still smells good. The 2 in 1 washing liquid, I’m not quite convinced about (we usually have separate softener) but I’ll see if we adjust over the next few months.

Renewed our home insurance at the weekend, including the cashback, I got a price £69 cheaper than our renewal price so I was pretty chuffed with that.

We’ve got a new arrival in the family, so I’ve bought a gift. I try to be quite balanced, not buying ‘basics’ but still being practical, and settled on 3 sleepsuits in 6 – 9 months. I normally go for 3 to 6 months, but the mum and dad have so many friends and family that I am certain will dote on them, and it will be a little while before we get to meet the little guy anyway, so I went for a size they won’t have much/ any of.

I must admit I also bought a dress for work. I’ve been struggling to find trousers and a couple of my pairs are looking tatty, but I’m so thin that everything hangs off me (I'm told its a nice problem to have. To be fair, it does mean that I don't like shopping because its so hard to find clothes that fit, so generally NBI in this area isn't too tough). I've even tried aged 14 school trousers and they were huge. :( So, it’s a brand that I have a couple of nice dresses in and I normally wouldn’t justify the cost for work, but they had 20% off at the weekend and it gives me more of an elegant look than the alternative half full sack of potatoes look I was getting from the various trousers I’d tried.

Have got a bit behind as life is quite full on at the moment. After enjoying the lovely weather at the weekend and a couple of free jollies I've pretty much had my nose to the grindstone. Spent my day off yesterday doing a one off spring clean for someone:D Spendswise a couple of bits of food and a big bag of Royal Canin for Humphrey ordered with a 10% discount. I've been gradually working my way through some magazines a friend bought me and enjoying listening to some of the Ted talks which are a relatively new discovery for me. Today I'm roasting some cauliflower in readiness for a meal tomorrow from my new-to-me Weight Watchers book that my Mum gave me last month.

So, the end of month bill for my credit card and Ne*t Directory arrived and I smugly thought I've got enough money to pay them before pay day this month. Even better than that though, because I haven't been buying there is hardly anything to pay - money keft from this month can go to savings and money I usually put aside to pay these bills next month can go to savings. So pleased - this is a real LBM for me - the real result of changing habits. Thanks to everyone here who inspire me

I 'helped' dh count up his cc spends 1 January - 29 February, as he claimed he had only bought a few necessary clothing items, and they weren't expensive. True, they were not expensive, nevertheless, they totalled to €400! That is GBP 315. He was very surprised and vowed to cut down on the internet buying, and has started unsubscribing from these discount emails. I emphasised that if he wants to go to his mum in August, we have to start saving. That trip will cost around GBP 2,000 for him alone. He makes the trip every four years.

Day 76/366 I have gone completely wild and spent 1.50 on a cushion cover and pad from the local charity shop. However, I saw it last week and the cover will be perfect to cut up and put towards making a bathroom blind and the cushion pad will be used in the front room. Whilst confessing might as well own up to 89p on milk too. Wild child me!

I've bought some wool off eBay but local collection on my way to DD 50g x5 £4.20 compared to shop price of £14.95. I'm refusing to pay full, price for items I need when I can get perfectly good items second hand, the wool is brand new unused. x
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)
  • Nice work blackcats  Its good to reep the rewards of less consumerism.

  • :jToday was a great cooking day for using up almost over the hill refrigerator produce, buttermilk and roast beef. So I made do with what I had for dinner, just into new yummy dishes. :T

OH bought milk x3 for almost half price. :j

I need to use up the cabbage tomorrow and my husband is not a cabbage lover. We belong to a club where we get local area produce trucked in and all meet in the parking lot of a local doctors office to divide it. We buy monthly for the two of us, but it can be bought weekly for larger families. The produce consists of in season items and as I'm new to knowing what's in season, it's usually a bit of a surprise.
Anyway last time I got two cabbages and that's a bit much for OH to not begrudge eating in one month's time. He keeps going though because our savings are really worth it and the quality is excellent.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.
