Happy Birthday Jackie O.
There is a big petition going round about women paying more than men. That is why the debate in parliament. There is also a campaign to stop it as it is on hundreds of things.0 -
I'm doing quite well with NBI, mainly due to the fact i've been stuck in with a cold since Thurs
Still have my freezers n cupboards full tho, but do need bread n paracetamols tomoz .
I am never v lucky in garnering YS stuff, but my mate often pops round with bags of random veg for me, eg diced swede for 5p  party on :rotfl:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

I have had a NBI weekend. Lie-in yesterday as my son was at his dad's so didn't get up until 9.45 then spent until about 2pm reading in bed with my hot water bottle
Did my exercise DVD as it was too wet for walking - my friend and I usually do 10-15 miles on a Saturday, taking a long route to get some dinner and for and any bits of shopping we may need. This always involves a shopping centre of some kind but recently we have both been very mindful of only buying what we had set out for (if anything).
Had a bath and spent the rest of the day pottering about, watched a bit of TV (Netflix - got rid of TV license in Jan after realising I haven't watched 'live' TV for over 12 months) and altered 3 pairs of jeans that were too long. The jeans were given to me by my sister who works for a catalogue company and gets sample clothing for free, so a cost of £2.50 to buy some heavy duty WondaWeb (I don't do sewing) for 3 new pairs of jeans, yay!
My 2 year old nephew stayed last night so spent this morning watching Thomas the Tank Engine DVDs and drawing with him before dropping him home and picking my son up. Made a veggie curry for teas during the week and caught up on the housework.
I feel like I've got quite a bit done whilst having had a lazy weekend and not handed any cash over to anyone so all good.
Hope everyone else has had a lovely weekend.Never say never0 -
Evening folks
Happy Birthday Jacky! Hope you had a fab day with the family!
Grannys birthday celebration was really nice, no arguements, only the regular teasing which is ok. Star of the day however wasn't my granny but my cousins 3 months old baby daughter. I had to resist the urge to just kidnap her as she is sooo cute.
For me day was a NSD as my father kindly paid lunch for my sister and me too.
Did some household when I came home as hovering was long overdue. Will now watch a movie, knit a bit and then retire to my bedroom with a cuppa and a book. I really think that my new curtains and carpet spark joy and make the bedroom such a nice place.
Superdopsa, I love to buy crafting stuff and it is lovely when you know that you want it and that you saved up for it!

Hello sailors, is it ok if I jump on board? I followed the thread early last year but have since lost my way in a sea of consumerism and the buy, buy, buy mindset.
My goal for this year is to build up an emergency savings fund. I also have my sister's wedding and hopefully a holiday to look forward too, and some home renovations to do but of course these things cost money so i will be putting some aside separately for that.
We're also thinking of starting a family soon so any extra financial security we can build up in the meantime is a bonus.
I'm a chronic fritter-awayer and bargain hunter, so my money seems to disappear through the cracks a lot of the time with not a lot to show for it. A fiver here and there certainly adds up!0 -
Good Morning chums and fellow matelots:) thanks for all the birthday greetings I had a terrific day yesterday and today I am meeting up with my oldest friend for lunch in John Lewis in Bluewater then we are going to the cinema.
Had lots of fantastic presents from all the family and I felt truly loved and appreciated by all of them.
Today is a freebie day out as my friend is treating us to lunch and we split the ticket price between us normally but as it was my birthday she said no arguments she will buy the tickets (I have a CEA cinema pass which gives me two for one tickets)
so NBI day, even though we shall be in one of the largest shopping malls in the south-east:):) I am very good at resisting temptation.
Tomorrow is U3A coffee morning which will be another freebie as I have a dobbies voucher to use.Wednesday I will be actually doing my first food shop of February as its the last day at Lidls before the special offers change and I want to buy a few of the bits that are on offer at the moment, leeks especially and perhaps some garlic as well. I have about 7 things on my list to buy at the moment so by Wednesday I should be just about ready for a 'big' shop:):)
Welcome to all the new folk that have climbed aboard the good ship NBI I'm sure with all our support you will save a few bob:):)
Take care everyone and have a good day what ever you are doing

Day 38/366 Another NSD. The cushion covers have got very tatty and I've been keeping an eye out in the charity shops for replacements but nothing has caught my eye. Rootling around on the bookshelf I remembered a needlework book which has a couple of covers I've already stitched from it which I love. One of them has a counterpart for which I already have at least some of the wools....oh yes and I've even got the canvas and made a minor start years ago. It's been hidden away ever since but I will restart it once I've finished the current UFO I recently picked up again after a two year break [I've been knitting blankets in the intervening period but am now sick of doing them!] Another unforeseen result is that I found two needlepoint books which, although I quite like, I'm not keen enough on the projects to ever tackle them so they're off to the charity shop.
I shall be offline for a few days but not going overboard promise!

Afternoon everyone
Sorry wasn't on here yesterday so belated birthday wishes Jackie O sounds like you had great day.
Just had tooth out at dentist was dreading all weekend but actually wasn't too bad dosed up on painkillers at moment . So definately a NSD didn't have to pay for tooth or injections so pleased with that can't seem me going anywhere far today.
Saved lot more than expected this month between isa and new retirement savings account only one week till pay day so on target not to spend anything now apart from DD for Sky, I am very sad keep looking at my totals growing! keep trying to find ways tio save more was horrified how much you actually get for CDS on that bird site gave up with that any other ideas for CDs and DVDs ?Frugal challenge 2025
