I'm definitely up for another thread next year - 2016 has been a difficult one for me but as I start a new part-time job on 3rd of January, 2017 is going to be different! I'm also planning to commit to some regular volunteer work in the local office of a national charity using my skills & knowledge, and will be getting stuck into my NVQ4 in Business & Professional Administration too, but will still have time for fabbing! :D

I am taking DH out for lunch & a few drinks today, as it was his birthday on Wednesday but he was away on his works do. The plan is to wear my newest indigo skinny jeans with a cream long line top and my maroon leather Ted Baker biker jacket. Will get my best DKNY bag out for an airing too! Not sure about footwear though - either black shoe-boots with a slim heel, navy suede chunky-heel shoe-boots or beige ankle boots with a chunky heel, my current fave from A5da. Thoughts please?

Good luck with the new job next year.

Re the boots I would probably go for the navy ones as combined with the indigo jeans they are probably more leg lengthening, but if the jeans are super dark then the black ones might be better.

:santa2: Some great posts. One of the things I love about this thread is the opportunity to reflect and get opinions from like minded virtual friends.

Your outfit for Saturday sound super glamorous sugarbaby. You're right to get a new coat as it's good to have choices for different styles/occasions. Losing weight to get into all your clothes is a very mse:money:resolution too.

It's interesting what you said about the difference between the two jobs shandy: the draining stress of the one compared with the energising buzz of the other. My DH was fortunate enough to take very early retirement (at 53) from his very stressful job and has since trained as a tour guide. They've set up a new organisation, do loads of planning, research, promotions, admin and networking on top of the walks themselves and he loves every minute of it.

Good luck with your new job too floss.:)

I was thinking that you did the right thing buying the 'winter' pair of Geox trainers indie. You need to be kind to your feet with all that walking planned.

That book sounds interesting ali. It's interesting that decluttering can be cathartic as well as the obvious tidying up bonus. Similarly we often talk on here about house fabbing as having good surroundings can have an effect on how we feel. Interesting how mind and body are linked.

I joined in Fab Friday. We got to go to the NT property at Kingston Lacy so I needed to be warm as wanted to walk in the grounds as well as see the house decked out for Christmas. I'm going to avoid the b**** word here;). I wore a stone coloured angora sweater, a chocolate coloured Zara chunky cardigan and a honey coloured woolly scarf with black jeans and black padded jacket. We had a light lunch in the tearoom and really enjoyed our visit. I also enjoyed a bit of people watching: loads of M&S clones with short back and sides:eek:.

Decorations will be done either over the weekend or on Monday. Then it's just a meal plan and fresh food shopping. It'll happen.:xmassmile

The outfit sounds like a knockout, sugarbaby - hope you have a great time:)
Ali, I'm not offended by swearing and the book sounds very interesting; I'll definitely check it out, thanks:)
Shandy it's good to hear from you - sorry your job is proving so stressful though - good for you for standing up for yourself; hope things get easier.
Floss, good luck in the new job - hope you had a good lunch:)
Indie OH and I are terrible for buying new prints and taking ages to hang them! Glad you're getting enjoyment from yours at last!
Maman, I really wanted to get to an NT property before Xmas but time is running out now so it might have to be postponed until Xmas week, in the days afterwards.
I've had a busy day, ending with coffee with a close friend. My hair still looks ok after my salon visit, nails are done and I wore slim fit black trousers, a long pink, glittery fine knit top and a matching scarf. Black suede ankle boots - and makeup ;)
OH and boys want a takeaway tonight so will try to go for the least calorific option . I am planning to have a couple of glasses of wine though!
  • Ladies I have some exciting news, in February my youngest sister is getting married to her Pakistani bf, officially they are already married, but the big cultural wedding is back in his hometown in Pakistan and we are all flying out to meet her there.

If you've ever seen asian weddings they are very glam, 100's of people with lots of and lots of bling! They are a contemporary, secular family so we have been reassured it will not be very traditional - but of course I am wracking my brain what AM I going to wear!?

Asian weddings are usually evening affairs so I have a gold colored raw silk tunic top with a mandarin collar, I also have a cream, brown and gold embroidered pashmina, and a pair of chocolate brown and gold M&S peep-toe heels, I was thinking of buying some chocolate brown or cream leggings or slimline trousers to pull it all together as an outfit with my fake cream and gold pearl earrings and necklace? I think a dress would be be too revealing, and I want to give some respect to the culture, but I don't think I can properly pull off the incredibly elaborate outfits they wear, anyways let me know what you think ladies. It will also be a good excuse to get some proper pampering done, a professional hair cut and colour etc.
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

"M&S clones with sort Back and sides":rotfl::rotfl:

Had to smile. I often think I would love to grow my hair but it would probably take ages. I get to a certain stage and then give up. I've been doing this for years.

I was looking at some pictures of older famous women with longer hair and the all look lovely, very feminine. Perhaps I should make 2017 the year I go for it.

Anyway I'm having it coloured on Monday and I gave decided I definitely need to warm it up. Everyone says my white hair is striking but I think it drains me sometimes. I just look so tired and washed out at the moment. I have been fantasing about grabbing a bit of winter sun. But obviously I'm tied at the moment.

Dad was rushed into hospital last night after a fall. They also think he has a chest infection. This is how it starts isn't it, falls and chest infections. So I think this is what we can expect. He goes into hospital, they patch him up, he goes home, he dips again and then goes back into hospital. Rinse and repeat.

Shandy - sorry to hear about your job and the way you are being treated. Your boss sounds like a bully.

We tend to think bullying stops when we leave school but alas workplace bullying is surprisingly common. Anyway, well done on speaking up. That can't have been easy, let's hope it helps your manager to rethink their approach.

Shandy I have hd a couple of bosses like that - one I suffered and ended up putting a grievance in against (didn't win of course), the other more recently I was lucky to be in a position to walk after 3 months off sick with anxiety. My replacement is now managed by someone with compassion and a family, who completely understood what I was going through earlier in the year. Good luck for working out your future. Also, maybe build a relationship with the future in-laws for guidance on outfits - salwar khameez (I think) is the tunic & trousers outfit if you don't feel able to do a sari. I don't know where you live but near me Blackburn or Preston are good for Asian dress, also the Curry Mile through Rusholme in Manchester is another good place to try.

Sorry to hear about your Dad going into Hospital again LL. Hope you're all doing ok.

Shandy, how exciting! And what a fabulous excuse to get glammed up in lovely vibrant colours and fabrics if you want to!
I think Floss makes some really good suggestions - I always think the tunic and top outfits look really lovely. Congratulations to the happy couple:)

I've spent the morning clearing out our dining room, which had become a home to all the stuff DS1 brought back from uni with him when he came home for this year. I've finally managed to rehouse, declutter and find places for it all and have reclaimed the room so that I can set a lovely table on Xmas day.
I've showered now and changed out of my scruffs, though only into smarter leggings and a long top. I want to tackle some ironing in a bit but to be honest, I feel so much like I'm chasing my own tail in trying to keep on top of everything lately that I might take the very un-mse step of dropping into the ironing shop on Monday:o
Hope you're all having a good Saturday.
