What is the point if you have a repsentative here that they just ask you to go to chat room ...

People are here to discuss to comment ....
He's asked you to email him and offered to address your complaints. But you don't want that now, you say you don't even want a credit card now.

You want to 'discuss' your complaints, but not with AA, just on here. But there seems nobody on here that's interested.

Well, I agree with those who say this should be moved to Praise, Vents & Warnings. And the sooner the better.
  • The point about all this lot is simple. Don't do business with AA credit cards or any other company stupid enough to outsource their financial services products to the Bank of Ireland, and that includes the Post Office. Their identification verification regime is way over the top, being far more onerous than nearly every other provider.

this is not a sign of incompetence ????
I'm not trying to defend this company in any way but to me two of your three examples aren't illustrative of the company being "staffed by a bunch of incompetent people from Underwriters to the Frontline staffs" but staffed by human beings who sometimes make mistakes, just like you or me or any other human being.

The point about their onerous ID checks isn't indicative of incompetence either, it just shows they approach security in a slightly different way from others, which is entirely their prerogative (although I'd accept it's inconvenient only to learn this too late in the application process) - as previous posters have said, if you don't like it then vote with your feet.

I don't see their MSE rep doing things any differently from other reps though - of course they're not going to discuss individual cases (let alone some sort of lame attempt to start a class action!) or security policies on a public forum! What do you seriously expect a company rep to say to "People have been sent the wrong card, e.g. it should be a Balance transfer card but was sent a non BT card", other than (effectively) 'send in some specific details to someone who may be able to help'?
  • It's difficult to comment on the incompetence angle here, but one thing's for sure, institutionally the Bank of Ireland are stupid.

How many potential customers will go elsewhere as a result of their ridiculous identification requirement? Loads.

How many potential customers will come to Bank of Ireland as a result of their ridiculous identification requirements? Approximately none.

What sort of business model is that?

One that presumably works for them?

They will obviously be able to monitor the level of applications that are abandoned by those who aren't able or don't wish to complete the BoI ID requirements - I have no idea if that's 1% or 99% of applicants (and I doubt you do either) but they will, so to suggest that some unhappy posters on a web forum have greater insight into how to run a bank than their management is pretty laughable.

As I say, I'm not trying to defend their practices, but just countering some of the hysterical over-reaction on this thread - to state as fact that they're "institutionally stupid" because of their ID checking process is, er, stupid!

Personally for me they have been trouble free. I have had a Post Office CC which i appied for got accepted and used for 2 years closed Nov 2014. Then November last year applied again for there 18months Balance trf card with reduced fee. Received agreement to sign within few days then card arrived week later, did balance transfer and as per there offer received the refund of fees.

Yes there online acccount page is poor, but otherwise i have not had any problems with them. Maybe i have been lucky who knows. Like most things if it is going right you never hear about it but if there is a problem you do.
