O/S Daily Thursday 31 December 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH and myself awake enjoying first peaceful cuppas. Boys still in their pits.

Still dark, wet underfoot, with laying water, but the wind seems to have left us.

Lunch yesterday was an egg and bacon sandwich when I get home from work yesterday. Work was much more busy than I expected, and it will be very busy next week as the office is now closed until Monday 4 Jan, so it’ll be chaos as it always is after we’ve been shut for a bank holiday. But when we re-open it’ll be with the new style – nowhere near the level of service that our customers have been used to, they’ll get shown to a computer terminal and will be expected to take more responsibility for their own affairs. OK, if they have the capacity to do that, but a high percentage don’t – so so pleased I’m on leave now until Monday 11 Jan – at least the first week will be out the way! When I got home yesterday afternoon DH and the boys had started a bit of a clean up in the kitchen, they’d had everything out of a couple of my food cupboards, cleaned the insides and out and put everything back, of course, loads of stuff put in the wrong places, I couldn’t find bits, but just kept quiet and had a quick shifty round, they go in those cupboards so rarely they won’t know I’ve altered it anyway! I’m very grateful they’ve made a start, it’s on my “to do” list for when I’m off, but I have the whole kitchen to do, and they’ve just cut my work load, by making a start, I’m a happy girl!

Had a lovely afternoon/early evening with our friends that we went to visit – was good just to sit and chill, lots of laughs and be out of the house.

Not sure what we’ll be having for food today, there’s some gammon steaks in the fridge, and fish in the freezer, may do menfolk, fish, chips and beans, I’ll have fish, jacket potato and veg. Later I need to make a start on the cheesecake for nieces’ birthday celebrations tomorrow – the base needs to be made.

Have a good New Year everyone, and for some you’ll be pleased to shut the door on 2015, thinking of you all x

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all

Day off and can't sleep :(. I'm up with the cat having a cuppa

I've written a complaint to b00ts as I received parcels from them that were open and the contents damaged , I buy toiletry gift packs in the sale and then use them for birthday presents throughout the year . Half of them were damaged , the plastic Windows ripped or all the contents spilled out . They must have been roughly handled by the delivery firm  I'm awaiting a response

need to start taking the Xmas decs down today and give the place a good clean , I did 4 loads of washing last night and it's draped on the airer and radiators so need to sort and iron that today. I also need to take some stuff to recycling hopefully then the house will look much better

I hope everyone has a lovely day ((( hugs))) to all who need xx
  • Morning all. I don't normally bother making a "proper" coffee first thing but this morning I am treating myself and now on my second cup!

I am tempted to take down the decs but think I will leave till Saturday as it always look so gloomy without all the lights and Yankee candle ornaments burning! I shall give a quick once over with the duster & vac this morning but leave a proper clean till all the Xmas decs are back in the loft!

DD is having her usual NYE party for any friends and family who have nothing better to do! But us old codgers are going to pass on it and have a quiet night to ourselves! We are having an Italian Evening! I am doing Italian Chicken with baby rosemary roasties and garlic flat bread. And totally spoiling ourselves by making up a (large!) jug of Aperol Spritz and pretending we are sitting on the lakeside in Northern Italy! (Well we can dream!) The Aperol, Prosecco and soda are already chilling in the fridge!

I think I am feeling marginally better this morning (though didn't sleep much better) so maybe the change in anti b's is having some effect. I can but hope!

I got my planner for the new year done yesterday and, as usual, it took me forever. But it's done now - sigh of relief. This afternoon I am going to do a stock check of the freezers and store cupboards as I really must get supplies down before buying any more. It's ridiculous the amount of food I have stockpiled. So maybe January will be a cheap month!

Happy New Year one and all, (((((((HUGS)))))))) to those wanting/needing them. There's been lots of sadness, illness and family troubles on here recently, so here's to a better new year for us all. Take care xx

  • Good morning all,

The wind has died down now thsnk goodness.

TA keeping my fingers crossed for you, I hope they are working. We have had some wonderful holidays at Lake Como which has given us our love of Italian food too, enjoy your meal.

We are going to do our monthly shop today. The fridge has been cleared out and food either frozen or thrown out(the bin men come today)

We don't normally do much to bring in the new year, for some reason we don't like it, so it will be a quiet evening for us. DGD is going out on Saturday with BF so he is coming here tonight, as she says everything is so much more expensive tonight including a taxi.

Have a good day all and stay safe and I hope the new year brings health and happiness, not too much to ask for is it?

Morning all :) Considering the wind and rain we've had, it's pretty warm here still. I've been pottering in the kitchen since I got up this morning, doing a stock take of cupboards and freezers. I'm shocked at the amount of food there is but at least I can now meal plan and hopefully have a greatly reduced shopping budget in January.

I managed to make a dent in the ironing pile yesterday but it still needs finishing off so that is on my list today. Decorations will be coming down at some point too and then I can sweep and steam the floors.

Food wise, I've put some mozzarella filled chicken breasts in the slow cooker for later so at least I won't have to spend too long on tonight's tea :)

    Morning everyone.

Wind has calmed right down, thank goodness. At one point yesterdsy the front door blew open so I had to lock it. I think that more rain is due to sweep through. Perhaps I'll stay here and drive down tomorrow. It's been a strange festive season this year.

Tree and cards are down. I like the 'bare' look as I can't abide clutter. Presents are put away and decs are in the barn. Actually I was pleased with the first tree, more pleased than I thought I'd be.

I also did a trawl through a couple of cookery books and made a list of what I'd like to try. It's a start! And my plan to do something new each month is coming on well, I realised that I've already got six outings organised, including September and December. :j It's coming together.

TA - it's so good to hear you're feeling better, just in time for your Italian evening. Have fun.

Now I may get up. Many thanks to all those on this thread, lovely people sharing your lives, woes and happiness and everything in between. You've been a great part of my year and it's been a pleasure to 'know' you all. I'll raise my glass to you all tonight st the bells.

Happy Hogmanay everyone and all the best for 2016.

I still have some Aperol (Sainsbob's is the only sm round here where I can get it) but I was also tempted by a bottle of the Aldi copycat - Apice - have you tried it and, if so, how does it compare? At half the price of the real thing I couldn't resist putting a bottle in my trolley when I saw it. Cheers!! xx

Got up early and still half asleep as dd is coming to drive us to the slimming club.

I reminded her she would have to make some diversions and circle the town so it will take extra time.

Will have some tea or coffee when we get back as the scales are going to get enough of a shock. :o

I made a bolognese low fat mince yesterday which is in the fridge and may turn some of it into spag bol for lunch. The remainder can be cottage pie or a small lasagne and saved for tomorrow or frozen.
DD is staying for lunch and I think she , sil and another dd might be here for lunch tomorrow.

Hugs to all and see you later.

I was awake from 4 this morning but managed to drop off again for a while.
The fish have been fed, Mr Grumpy has a cup of tea in bed, I have one beside me.
I want to tidy my bedroom today, that's if Mr Grumpy gets up at all.
Then it will be back to the crochet I'm aiming to complete 64 small circles today.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning :santa2:

That made me laugh Hester - I refer to mr tru as Mr Grumpy when talking to Scampi, he now runs to him when I ask him where Mr Grumpy is :D

I've been feeling a bit strange for the past couple of days - light-headed, short of breath and achy. I haven't actually felt ill though. I could move around and get on with things but had to do everything slowly or I'd feel dizzy. Woke up this morning feeling normal again.

The weather has been horrible. We went for a short walk yesterday, it wasn't too bad while we were moving but when we stopped to talk to someone, me and Scampi were blown backwards :D We've lost another roof tile, I heard it slide down the roof and hit the floor in the middle of the night, lol.

I've sorted through my Christmas things and made a note of what I need for next year. Not much thankfully. I haven't been near a shop since before Christmas (apart from Pets At Home yesterday) so hopefully there's some bargains left.

I was up early again. I've cleaned the kitchen and scrubbed the oven, the hoovering and dusting will be done in a mo. I want to clean the bathroom too, I'll do that when I have a shower. I want everything cleaned and tidied by lunchtime today so I can do absolutely nothing tomorrow :D
