Amazon Reviews - very suspicious

I have for years based many of my purchases on reviews published on Amazon, and until today I've found it a reliable basis for purchases.

However, I've spent several hours today looking for and checking out a proposed purchase and having just about made up my mind on which to choose, I decided to really check out the reviews as there were very few and were in very broken English and posted within a day or two, and not "verified purchases".

Surprise, suprise, all the reviewers of this product (bar one) had also left similar 5* reviews for other products in common with each other. Broken, virtually unintelligible English but lovely English-sounding names.

Anybody think it's worth reporting this to Amazon?

Worth reporting, I always write reviews when I can but I'm always sceptical of the reviews that don't say "verified purchase".

Definitely not genuine reviews although I'd love to know where they nicked Stephen E. Plunkett from.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I bought a product from Amazon and the seller sent me an email saying if I have them a five star review they would send me a free apple lightening charger.
  • I bought a battery for my Orange phone based on reviews. It didn't work, it was a dud. They did reply to my email so I returned it only to be sent another dud. Then they didn't reply again. I put up a negative review and Amazon declined to publish it saying it wasn't in their policy to do so.

They will remove reviews if, for instance, the "review" is actually a rant about a dreadful seller, so perhaps someone reported it as inappropriate?

Well David Moyes sent me an email telling me he had a few hundred thousand he was willing to send my way...

I guess they pull up news sites and go from there?

Very entertaining! If anybody is actually taken in by these fake reviews they need their bumps read. Unfortunately, many will probably just see a row of 5* and not actually read the comments.

Should we all try to report them and see if they actually get removed?

Or are they not known for removing fake comments?
