  • That smiley ----> ;) is one of the most patronising smiley there is IMO!

But seriously, a smiley is prohibited....what next?! I always wondered where the roll eye smiley was. I think it needs to make a come back! :rotfl:

I too had no idea there were any 'prohibited' smilies, and no idea that the rolling eyes smiley caused offence. After all there are far more offensive emoticons out there!

I wonder why it's socially acceptable to be irked by somebody's SPAG but not their poor maths skills?

I get irked by people proffering more than 100% effort!

Oh no! Please don't say that, Georgiegirl.

I used it in my last post and I really don't think I can take any more chastisement in one day.....:o
But maybe 'patronising' is slightly better than 'obnoxious, rude and prohibited'.....
    What do you think? :)

It does bother me sometimes, but then I remember its the internet and not everyones first language is english. It can stop me liking a post or meme - if it has a simple spelling mistake.

My real pet hate though is the americanism "i could care less" because obviously, it means the exact opposite of what they're intending it to mean.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

We used to have the rolling eyes smiley and it was used a lot. I probably wasn't paying attention, but I thought it was lost when MSE changed to a different bulletin board system. I hadn't realised that it offended anyone!

That particular smiley was removed by MSE a very, very long time ago. Certainly well before May 2015, when Petra first joined the site.

It's always interesting when a relatively new poster proves to be a site historian!

I wouldn't described the smiley as 'prohibited' however. Simply that MSE removed it - and another smiley - from the options available on here.

I'd be quite happy to be able to use the options they DO have available! None of them work for me. I have to type in :-0 :-) :-( and ;-)

Well, in this case it's because we communicate with words, rather than numbers. :)
