KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

A couple of VHS videos.. the house is full of them. they've nothing to play them on but are clinging onto them like Gollum. Every now and then a couple leave.
That really made me laugh.
I've only just got rid of my beloved cassette tapes - never play them any more but they represent a large part of my twenties and it hurts to bin them. Nobody wants cassettes it seems.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -

Why not think about a lightweight dressing gown? I have one from M@talan which goes into my case or overnight bag, it is grey, so DH uses it too2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I finally have a wardrobe in my bedroom - only 3.5 years after moving in. Came across it online last weekend, ordered it with BH discount code AND cashback, and it arrived today. Put it together in about 15 minutes and am now sorting out my summer wardrobe and putting winter clothes away. This means the wardrobe in the kids' room can be used to store the contents of the dining room as I box them up ready for the builders.0

DH and the longterm guest gave the house a good scrub, all dust bunnies now in bunny heaven. They also moved all the items that were waiting to be put in the attic, in the attic. I'll probably have to retrieve a few, because I seem to remember the library's Spark Joy accidentally made it unto that pile, too!
Kondoing weeds from the lawn, still, filling the holeswith compost and sowing grass seeds. Even dh was pricking out the weeds he noticed when on the lounger in the middle of the lawn.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -
The china study book is destined to go, I read it once and will not read it again. Unbalanced and subjective and very boring and unscientific, I am a scientist, it has no place in my home and could damage the health of any individual sucked in by it, it is an emotional book promoting veganism. A mini review from me because I said I was going to read the book and now I need to balance that ie it is a potentially damaging, waste of money0

Interesting to hear you say that Kittie as it was the conclusion I came to especially after reading Denise Minger's critique. Not that I could follow her statistical analysis as I'm not a scientist or a mathematician but it was enough to make me realise he was falling into the trap of obtaining the results he wanted. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

While we are on the subject of weight kondoing (how's it going btw GQ?) I bought myself a pair of Withings scales recently which are supposed to analyse all sorts of body composition markers. I particularly wanted these because it said it covered bone mass
Now I wasn't so silly as to believe they would do a DEXA type measurement but I was disappointed to say the least when they are consistently telling me that my bone mass weighs 5lb!!!! Even allowing for the fact that the water element of my bones is deducted ( because the scales measure total water mass). I refuse to believe that my entire skeleton weighs 5lb osteoporosis or not!!
Do you think I have grounds for returning them? They cost quite a bit and I would like to kondo the feeling of having been suckered. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
I've never got a satisfactory explanation from a vegetarian or a vegan about why it is healthful for an omnivorous species like our own to eat exclusively plant materials. You feed your pet animal a diet unsuitable for it, and you're committing an act of cruelty and/ or neglect. Who will be calling the RSPCA if you're mis-feeding your own animal self?
Full disclosure; when I was young and silly (late teens) I flirted with both of the above. I do have a mainly vegetable-based diet, but with modest amounts of good quality protein and feel far healthier than I do on a vegetarian diet. One thing I have noted as a woman in mid-life is that my vegetarian female peers have, in their late forties and in a mere handful of years, become very overweight and even obese, and are dropping into Type 2 diabetes diagnoses left, right and centre. Yet they're adamant that their diet is healthy and can't understand why it's not working out for them.
Funnily enough, my relatives who eat a very prosaic ominvorous diet live into their nineties in robust health, and have done as far back as we can trace (seventeenth century) despite the lack of modern medicine and mod cons.
Righty, off to make my breakfast; two hardboiled eggs, shredded lettuce, half an avocado, half a red pepper, handful of radishes, some celery, some cucumber, and a diced apple. Some of the above will go into the lunchtime salad, which I will accompany with some chunks of feta cheese. Both salads will be sloshed with extra virgin olive oil and organic apple cider vinegar, and sprinkled with sunflower hearts and sesame seeds. This will give me enough energy to bike several miles and work on my allotment, without conking out, and the evening meal will be an oven-braised pork chop with steamed home-grown parnips served mashed with butter.
If I ate bread for breakfast, I would be hollow and shaky and need refuelling within about two hours.
ETA; maryb, it's going down steadily, have lost 1.6 kg in the past ten days. Could have possibly been a bit more if I hadn't eaten 100 g of chocolate over the past two days and a 4-pack of giant cookies last Sunday. And I've been eating lovely things inc mushrooms sauted in butter and haven't been the slightest bit hungry, hangry or wobbly.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Maryb, I am currently looking into lactobacillus and weight gain, I eat very well, lots of veg and I cycle most days. I went back on hm kefir several months ago, initially there was weight loss but it is now stable, should be reducing. There are lots of bacteria promoting products out there in supermarkets, heavily promoted and good incomes for the manufacturers.eg activia. No doubt that they make you feel well. Hm kefir is much cheaper but may well not be the right bacteria for me. I still have to look into the latic acid bacteria in eg sauerkraut as compared to the bacteria produced using sugars in milk. In the meantime I am withdrawing from kefir and going to supplement with a none lacto or bifidus bacillus . I think, for me, this is the last and missing strand0

Blood grouping. Genetic ancestry from thousands of years ago. O is best suited to meats. hunter gatherers. Other groups evolved very much later to eat grains and less meat when cultivation and farming started. There isn`t a one size fits all re food. Simple living as in our younger years also lead to older age, lack of radiation from mobiles and wireless internet which is all around, even if we don`t have it at home and it goes on and on, such bad, unavoidable pollution these days. Veganism and vegetarianism don`t have a place in evolved nutrition, they are lifestyle choices mostly based on animal welfare. Can be dangerous re personal welfare, imo0
