The man who kept our dishwasher going for more years than the manufacturers intended told me that powder is better for dishwashers - maybe because it has easily dissolvable washing soda which stops the pipes gunking up with grease. Whereas I can imagine that powder wouldn't be so good for a washing machine where you are not dealing with grease and washing at lower temperatures so the powder doesn't dissolve so well and clogs up the pipes.

All academic now because I can't get dishwasher powder anymore, I can only find tablets. But I get the little bottles of dishwasher cleaner from Aldi or Lidl and run a cleaning wash everynow and then. I think you can get similar things for washing machines. Though I don't bother - the same maintenance chap told me to run a 90degree wash cycle every now and then to clear out the pipes and that seems to work.
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

:) Righty, home for a wee whiley for a cuppa, small rest, then up to the lottie. Weather's not pleasant (cold and grey) but not actually wet, so need to do a little each day I can as time and tide wait for no woman, much less weeds.

Plus those courgette seeds need rescuing from Roland, they're the more expensive courgettes, the hybrid yellow ones called Gold Rush.

:o Don't tell the allotment officer but there's one or two geezers up there who'll take pot-shots at the lottie rats, in the event that they present themselves with a nice back-stop, like galv iron, and the pellets won't travel.

We also have several lottie cats, or ones which live on the streets nearby but spend a substantial amount of time prowling the plots. I've seen them take a rat from within six feet of me and am always happy to have good ratters on the case.

:D My pal is very pleased as he had a customer come in and ask to buy empty boxes and I was able to bring him a fascinating selection of old ones (cigar, jewellery etc etc) and he spend a few tens. Less clutter, more cash.

My chazzer donation is with them, and that means that there is about another square foot of Space in my life, yippee!

    Hello Kondnistas,
Just popping in to share my nice news - I spent the past hour doing housework and so I have mopped my floors on a Saturday! The konmarie organisation has hit "peak joy" as the flat is now so efficient that the housework was a swift hour just now. As per my previous hopes, a few weeks back, home is neat and tidy on a regular basis! and I shall be going out to enjoy a few frothy cold ones with a friend this evening. Made even more fun knowing that even if tomorrow should bring a slightly sore head, there are no jobs to be done and my time is my own :) hope everyone else is good!

Bit more sneaked out of dad's house. it's going to take a while at this rate, but the difference is showing. I hope my brother doesn't notice two big bags in the bin cos he may then go through them...

An old duvet cover that was dumped at the end of spare room (my room) bed. It had gone mouldy. Binned
    an old sock - ditto.
various old carrier bags that were soon to start shredding.
A couple of VHS videos.. the house is full of them. they've nothing to play them on but are clinging onto them like Gollum. Every now and then a couple leave.
Some cassette tapes of the Goon show I bought dad a lot of years ago. they are in the mindset of "if it's a present, it has to be kept". I think not.....
Another brother's ID badge from a long gone job - the picture all but faded away.

I can see more children's books and games lurking at the back of a cupboard. They're next (next time)
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Nice day here so DH repainted 3 concrete planters and 2 plastic ones for me ready for my Geraniums. I also sorted the arrangement of tubs in the greenhouse ready for the tomatoes and cucumbers and put up the supports and did the mesh for my runner beans. I'm going to wait a few more days as there is still a cold wind around. Bottom of the garden giving me great joy after the huge clearout a few weeks ago - everything is easy to find and neat and tidy. I also cleared out the tubs of mashed potato from my freezer to make some corned beef hash but when I started to stir it up together it all went to watery mush - any idea what I've done wrong anyone??
DH also painted one of my old kitchen cupboard fronts to see how it looked and covered - neither of us were particularly impressed so will be looking for new doors and keeping the old carcases as there's nothing wrong with them. Just about to sit down with DH for a small sherbet before getting tea on. Have a good evening all

such happiness emanating from you, I feel it here :D

There is one area I cannot keep constantly tidy and its my dining table, everything gets plonked there, letters, packages to open, my lists, my menus for the day. Some papers that I need to file. Well we have to have one area . I have two wicker baskets on the floor behind the sofa, one for bin rubbish and cardboard etc, the other to transfer to the shed, which is my main store area. Its working well, anything for upstairs gets put on the stairs ready to move up

I am making a point of doing a kitchen tidy early every evening, much better than when I am falling asleep. Everything away, sink and tops wiped, ready for a new day. A bit overfull with books at the moment, so temporarily am going to hide them in a small wicker unit, I have two empty ones from kondo. :)

I've not posted for ages, but read all the thread.

Two bin bags went to charity. Some barely worn clothes, some brand new. Also a bag of rags.

More will head out of the door at the end of the month as the charity fayres are starting.

My racking is up. Thank you to everyone who gave me advice. The garage is slowly becoming organised, but still very much in Ninth Square mode.

Can I ask for advice from the Norfolkites? We are going to see a few things at the N&N Festival. We have several spare days, so what's good to see, nice to visit etc? We have a car so can get around the county. I'm not very well again, so major hiking is out. Pootling followed by cake is good🍰 We've not been to Norfolk and Norwich, so all advice is very welcome.

Have crossed various things off the list today.

Made hopefully final changes to our wills which we have emailed over to the willwriter, this has been on the jobsheet for several weeks.

Have taken down the Christmas lights out of the cherry tree at the bottom of the garden, boxed them up and returned to the loft. They've been off since 12th night but not taken down. Also boxed up some others which have been in the garage since being taken off a tree in the front garden and left to dry. We've never been this late in putting Christmas decs away, but they're done now.

Garden ornaments removed from winter storage in the shed and hung up on walls outside.

Suit carrier and hold-all stored in the loft following end of OH's contract 3 weeks ago. Trip made to railway station to buy railcard as OH has a visit to London on Monday.

Hall radiator shelf has been put back up following painting. It used to be dark brown wood, is now white which goes much better with the wallpaper we put up over Easter.

We received an 'experience' voucher as a Christmas present, we were going to book this up but have just discovered this runs for 24 months so have decided to defer it until next year as our new house purchase could mean we need to spend some time decorating it so it can be let out. This will be our retirement home but not for a couple of years. We have a stack of paint in the garage bought on offer over BH weekend ready to neutralise it (not magnolia, but Dulux Barley White winch we use a lot in our current home).

Mashed potato does go a bit watery on thawing, so you need to tip it into a sieve over the sink and let it drain a bit before use, that is all :)

Friend coming over to clean my home on Wednesday so need to get cracking with some tidying up and getting rid of more things tomorrow.
Paper and reading pile ground to a halt over last few days but will have a go at it again this evening.
Ordered some nightwear from a more expensive retailer than usual, hoping it would be better quality however it doesn't look any different and having tried it all on, none of it sparks joy so will pack it back up later and send it on its way on Monday. Will see if the two pairs of PJs ordered from M*S are any better when they arrive.
Have completely lost the clothes buying mojo which is a good thing in many ways, but I really do need new summer nightwear as what I have is on its last legs and not fit to be seen. We'll be staying in a place with shared bathroom for 3 nights on our upcoming hols so need something reasonably decent for scurrying across the landing .

Fen1, there's loads to do and see in Norwich and surrounding areas. I would recommend the castle if you like art and dungeons, and the cathedral actually in Norwich plus a little wander around some of the older streets, Elm Hill being the most famous http://www.historicalnorwich.co.uk/old_norwich/streets.html .
Then on the broads, a boat trip from Wroxham would give you a good non walking tour of the area.
In Sheringham you have the seaside and the Poppy Line steam railway which takes you to Holt where there are plenty of tea rooms, and just outside is Sheringham Park which is famous for its rhododendrons which will be out at this time of the year (they have mobility scooters on loan if you run out of oomph!). If you like stately homes, Felbrigg Hall is not far from Sheringham. Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse is also very interesting if that's your sort of thing.
I'm sure the locals will come up with more. There are tea rooms at Norwich Castle and Gressenhall which were very good for a light lunch too when we last visited a few years ago.
