KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

A little cooler today and cloudy, so a better day for every day cleaning and sorting. Two parcels coming today and they already have homes allocated, enforced staying in so I may as well get busy and do things, like making muesli, thus kondo`ing various flakes etc. I am loving seeing these things go down, in future I will only order on an as needed basis
I cleaned the bird feeders yesterday, two were difficult to put back together but the `ring pull` ones were marvellous. I am keeping two clean large ones indoors ready for autumn and have two smaller ones back up. I do love watching the goldfinches from my chair
Nothing too much to do really, it is all so easy now, I can see at a glance what will keep my home in good order and as for cleaning? that can be counted in minutes rather than hours. I fib, it will be a good day to clean windows in and out, kondo has not affected them at all and while at it, the outside paintwork. I don`t like doing it but the effects will last quite a while and I am trapped at home, so may as well get on with it and start now

Kittie, please don't kondo the windows!!
I like cleaning my windows because the results bring pleasure and it also reassures me that I haven't actually got cataracts forming yet, it was just the dirt! :rotfl:
Today's kondo will be ... ... ... a piano. A long distance client has asked me to provide access to a firm who are coming to collect the said piano for restoration. I secretly have visions of the Laurel and Hardy film The Music Box, where they have to get a paino up a long flight of steps. It didn't go well :rotfl:I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
A few nights ago, I used up some bath salts, one of these hotel thingies, and it was very nice. This morning, I realised that there is now enough space in the little box holding the soaps and bath salts to also hold the hotel body lotions. And with the body lotions in the box, I could move the hair products in the 'lotion' spot. Now, my guest-towel-and-wash-mitts-drawer holds only that, and the spare shower curtain. I may try to fit the spare bathmat in, too, so that all fabric items are together. (We need a kondo emoji, like a small box with everything folded inside, to signify accomplishments!)
Eta: I also threw out a sparkly body lotion that was at least 20 years old!
The living room curtains are on the line, the little bit of wood above the curtain rail has been painted, ready for the curtains to go back on.

MMF - your new kondo-inspired life sounds like it is bringing you a huge amount of joy. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the piano movers are competent and professional
The outsides of my windows are done by the window cleaner on a fairly erratic basis, but I certainly wouldn't be going up a ladder myself to do them! It's a water-fed pole system, so no ladders, and the windows are clean, and it's cheap, but definitely not as good as when it was a bucket and squeegee and ladder - particularly on the frames. The insides have been done erratically, but as I now have some help in the house I hope that they'll be done more frequently. Certainly the colour of the water coming off them last week suggests they are now just 'less dirty' rather than clean
Most of the house is now feeling clear and clean after a month off work and a couple of weeks with help in the house. My office, however, is another matter, and needs addressing, but I think I have to get other stuff done first before I'm in a position to deal with it.
I'm currently making an effort to use up the ends of some handcream (I like to have handcream available in every room/bag/pocket etc as I get very dry hands), have just finished some not very nice instant coffee, and now realise I have a large amount of herbal tea that I seem to have stopped drinking. So I need to work my way through that - it should save me money on bottled water (the tap water is undrinkable due to the taste, although filtered it is OK in hot drinks) as well as hopefully being good for me! So the aim is to have 2 cups of herbal tea a day until it is gone... and then buy in small quantities like I now do with coffee. If I run out of anything, it won't be an emergency...0 -
When we put the guinea pig cage together we found we had three extra sides. With no instructions we bobbed into the shop to see if we had not put it together right. Assistant says to just keep them in case ... in case of what? If the guinea pigs can chew through metal rods then i am not sure i want them!
I am reluctantly going to put them behind the unit the cage is going on out of sight for now. Justin Case is not coming back.
Picking up the bedding today, tempted to get the animals too as then the girls can spend more time helping them settle as we are home on easter hols.Don’t put it down - put it away!

we used to have a townhouse and the windows updstairs were cleaned via a massively long pole. Here is very different and I don`t need any ladder, I have a balcony and inward turning windows. I can reach all the windows easily but they are massive. Anyway I have finished, using a spray and cloths this time. I must say that I get the best results from the special window cleaning equipment that I have, professional stuff but using the spray is only for kondo, when it is gone then it is gone. The window cleaner cannot access my back at all. My neighbour has one and he takes ten minutes when they are in and five when they are out, he comes no matter what the weather, every two weeks and charges £25 a time. I have to smile when it rains soon after
One stone is killing several birds today, unpacked my oganic delivery and received three parcels, one more to arrive. One has some underwear and another some tops, they will be simple subs if they fit, one in and one out. Two more sparkly `indian fabric cushion covers came, getting the velour winter covers off reminded me so much of last night on tv, it was like getting a baby out and I was expecting a loud tear at any moment. The winter covers were easily put away into an empty box, which had been occupied by yarn. Those four boxes now hold throws and cushion covers, all for the cold season. I am loving these bright cushion covers, from ebay and surprisingly cheap and well made
I had visitors at the weekend and I didn`t say a word about clearing and kondo but the comments were like `such a calming house ` lovely energy flow` and I smiled
Whatever else I do, or don`t do, today, I have already had what I call a satisfying day0 -
Ah windows was just making a brew thinking I would clean them, as we had a toddler round Monday so my glass doors are full of prints! I'm not doing outside as it's blowing a hooley and raining here, anyway sat down and the kitten decides to come and sit on my chesticle, and sleep, after I've pushed his bum down out of my face. He seems to think if he covers my face I can't read my tablet and will have to stroke him instead!
Will do a quick clean round today, still can't paint as hubby hasn't picked up the stain/damp primer I want to use before painting to cover a mark that has come through. He did get the small piece of skirting less than 20cm needed to finish off from when conservatory was done last year!! Not holding my breath though as although it's been bought it's not yet been cut and stuck on!
I'm out for tea at a friends later we are getting fish and chips which is a treat for me as coeliac and can only go to 1 chippy that does gluten free, and it's not very near! After that doing the pub quiz with sister and sis in law.:TFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0
