I kondoed heat out of a window today and must have annoyed my boiler!
I had a decorator in today and opened the window. I went out for a few hours after he left and when I got back, it was cold so I shut the window. Then I realised it was really cold and that my boiler had stopped working. I fiddled around with it and reset it twice and it came back to life. I was so relieved.
Spent most of the day working on postcards and photos. Got rid of 585 negative strips and other items. It's a work in progress.
The rest of the house is suffering temporarily while I concentrate on this kondo section.

Morning all.
silvasava, the metal detectorist (bless him) will likely find your lost ring in mere minutes, these devices are very good. And I do so know what elona means about the loose trousers vs the still-too-tight trousers as I am in exactly the same position. I'm washing and wearing the one pair of work trousers to death, because I have about 8 pairs of the next size down and am probably only weeks/ a couple of months away from fitting them. Certainly don't want to shell out for another bigger pair.I can technically just about get into one or two of the smaller pairs now. So long as I wouldn't then want to do anything rash. Like breathe or sit down.:rotfl:
Funnily enough, there is a metal detector in the parental loft, over by the chimney stack. It was bought used in the late seventies by Mum and was a short-lived craze of hers. Its continuing presence was debated last clear-out but Mum wanted to keep it at that point. I may gently raise it again this time and see if opinion has moved on.
 elona, oh, gosh to your offspring's proximity to the incident. I'm so glad you didn't know about it at the time. I expect she thought along the same lines as myself; tell Mum after I'm safely home so she won't worry.
Am pootling around pre-work as will have to come back home for a few mins to get my stuff afterwards then out again to meet up with a pal who'll be giving me a lift on his homeward commute which clips the edge of the hometown - I'll get the bus back on Sunday evening.Posting frequency may be erratic over the next 2-3 days, but you know I'll be busy and have some funny stuff to share later.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

The above really resonated with me. Never thought it that way, but I am a believer in fate, and that's why I couldn't immidately ignore the option. It just suddenly appeared in front of me instead of being a year away while I saved - that's what caught me offguard.. I'm going to let my boss know I'm thinking about it. I have 2 weeks to take myself back off the VR register and if I am successful, I can still back out at the decision point. I will need to carry on working, but I know how long I can stay off with the kids etc for. Confidence of findibg another job though my fear factorApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
So, last night we kondon'd the odd coloured socks. We saved the paired ones that were in good condition and put them straigh into their respective homes. I defy DS2 to now tell me that he doesn't have any socks :rotfl:
The black odd socks were saved as I wasn't in the mood to pair those, but I plan to go through them tonight.
We went from two wash baskets of odd socks to half a basket (:o) of odd socks and random gloves. We also Kondo'd one of the broken wash baskets.
It felt good. Very good
We also put away 90% of what's on the sofa. At some point we are meant to be givong the sofa bed to a friend. When we can find it under all the clutter and I can get to it to wash the covers, that isApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
GQ - homeless charities are always short of socks, so if you don't want to keep your stash, then you might consider that as an option. As for the metal detector, as a minimum you should get it out and check it still works ... and then wonder loudly whether it might go down well at the car boot. Or borrow it for the lottie?
Shortie - it might be worth checking with your local homeless charity whether odd socks and random gloves are acceptable if there are any you haven't managed to find a pair for. Good luck finding the sofabed...0 -
Shortie - I had the opportunity to take VR - I spoke to my boss and agreed I would go when the job was actually redundant through the reorganisation. I ended up staying another 9 months. It worked out well for me as my redundancy pay covered my earnings until DH's pension kicked in. Maybe it would help if you listed the pro's and cons?Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I took VR back in the financial crisis in 2009. Initially there wasn't a voluntary element because they were afraid too many of the people they actually wanted to keep would apply. So I was in the odd position of lobbying to lose my job!! They later relented and included a VR programme and I bit their hand off. Never ever regretted it
I ended up doing some short term contract work for them a few months later to cover maternity leave, but it was very flexible and not full time so that was a bonus. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Thanks all, it has helped getting thoughts and opinions xxx. I don't know if forced redundancy will come my way later but I don't think this round is the end of it. Question is will I just be putting off the inevitable if I wait? Or, lose my option to jump and not be pushed later? My boss cancelled our 1-2-1 today due to issues at the workplace, which I completely understand. He also won't know I'd psyched myself up for it to admit what Ibwas thinking of doing, lol
I'll make sure I have the chat though - I need it out in the open air between us. He's a lovely guy and I feel bad not letting him know my thoughts
Thanks for the odd-sock lead greenbee - I'll check it outApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
I have kondoed a partly-finished paint-by-numbers painting. It was a joke gift from my parents to my dh a couple of years ago (hinting he needs a hobby
), and was stored in the attic for 2 years. I took it downstairs a few months ago, and have painted bits for about a fortnight, but not in the last month. Last night, I decided it had actually done its job of getting my creative juices flowing, and that I did not need to complete it to feel better, so out it went!
There are a few more objects I need to decide on, on top of that same Expedit unit, before I can claim it as 'mine' and not allow a mess there again (just the top, the cubby holes are a different matter).
I also took down from the attic about 20 T-shirts and longsleeves for my dd2, and put about 15 into the 'for Africa' box. We will try on her old T-shirts and the new ones over the weekend, to see if they actually fit and look good on her (in that order). In the meantime, last night she decided that there are 3 winter dresses that she will 'never-ever' wear, and they are now in the charity box (not 'for Africa').

DH & I have just cleared out my corner unit in the kitchen to facilitate ease of access for the gas fitter on Monday to fit my cooker. My dining room table has SO MANY cooking containers and I did do a kondo last year. Now they are all lumped together I'm thinking 'how many do two people need?' I nearly photographed them but realised I've two pan drawers full of baking tins of various sorts underneath the cooker to be cleared too. Now I know why MK says to get it all together - shock horror!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
