KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

So, mum's house has an offer on it, so part one of the moving plan is coming together. Trouble is it means a massive kondo a she is a hoarder and has buried her head in the sand for too long. I have been trying to help her, but it has to be done in a way that doesn't stress her. This morning, with permission I ventured under the dining room table...well the corner of it....and I was able to throw out pre 2008 newspapers and pre 2006 receipts. I filled a wheely bin!!!!!!! Luckily the bin men came just as I was stopping for lunch, so I can get started again another day, but mum was ready to stop and I didn't want to push my luck.
It is definitely one of those projects where it's a little at a time.
This afternoon will be sorting at my house, i am hoping someone will want to view it this weekend, so getting it tidy now will help.
S x£400,000 starting Jan 2020 current end date Aug 2041 I would love the end date to be 2027 but will aim first for 2037.
1% target £4000 so far £20 paid0 -
Good luck, iamsalt!
Has anyone seen Mavvymoo? She hasn't posted after 9 January here, and 3 Feb on the Clothes Challenge thread.
Looking forward to a weekend of gardening, planning to make at least one flowerbed.
ETA: my parents are also clearing up their home, and have for some time. My Mum recently showed me some of her underwear that doesn't fit her anymore. Now, pants I'm happy to take, but NOT the sexy nightwear she has had cuddly times with Dad in!Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -
Hi all, haven't posted in a while. Been too busy to Kondo
But I have made some observations.... I seem to have strayed back into the kitchen to work. The result is that both the kitchen and the office are now untidy. When I worked in the office, neither were, so i need to move back.
Also, last night I left my untidy kitchen and went into the kondoed lounge. Well, what a difference. Not just because of the difference in tidiness, but i immediately felt calmer.
Another who is going to kondo weeds from the garden this weekend. Have a good one, all - and GQ, I'm covering ya... :rotfl:I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Evening all
Tonight, inspired by something I read in the book, I'm going to check out one of the under-bed storage boxes. The fact I don't know what's in it suggests most if not all can be Kondo'd. Which will make space for my wool stash which is currently in a grey plastic storage unit.
The grey plastic unit can then go in the loft as storage
.... that's plan anyway... see how I actually go though!April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -

I did fall off the wagon the other day when I bought 3 toothbrushes for justin. Gah, they are now on the bathroom windowsill in full view to shame me for a while. I was stressed that day so that must be a trigger for me to go into pack rat mode..
Nonono, that's not a good idea. Shame is a negative emotion, and in full view is not calming to the eye. Pop them in a little box in a drawer or cabinet and do not give them a second thought. If having a small stack makes you happy, that is perfectly fine, no need to punish yourself. They won't perish and there is a chance you go through them quickly (unexpected guest, guest who forgot toothbrush, foodbank appeal, new brush after sickness, etc). Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -
sounds like I am not the only one who has been a bit kondo disatisfied today, truth is that I have been too busy to put things away when I put them down, several areas are now looking messy. Its too late to do any of it now but I do have many positives in my day
Six pairs of trousers taken up, realising that they were too long because I was walking on them. They aren`t messy, I hung them all up. One overlocker machine repaired and cleaned, by me :j and that has to be good, I took some parts out and found the looper (tiny diameter tube) that was blocked tight, managed to get blockage out and managed somehow to put it all together againand it worked!! I need to cycle train myself on my twitchy bromton with the compicated gears, so have been out twice today and that is good.
So for once s*d the mess in my house0 -
I continued with photos today.
Messaged one of my cousins who said she would love to come and look at the photos I have of her family and grandparents and would love any spare ones that I have. No date arranged yet but hopefully, by the time one is, the family albums will be done by then. The spare photos for her to see are already sorted.
I knew there was a photo of me handing a wedding horseshoe to her mother but I hadn't seen it for ages. Mystery solved - it was on a slide.

When we divided up things from my parents' house one of my brothers took most of the historic photos because his son is very interested in family history. He scanned about fifty and sent us each a CD with the pictures on. It's been invaluable, each time one of us has a 'big' birthday we've done one of those photo books (sort of 'this is your life') and I've been able to find photos on there for their earlier years. It's also very interesting because you can zoom in on the photos, for example in one I can see my mum isn't wearing her wedding ring which helps me to date it.
I haven't finished Kondoing my digital photos, maybe I never will. I did the 'real' photos over a year ago, threw out loads and put the remainder in albums. And I've looked at those albums ..... not once since then! Maybe I need to think again.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Did manage to Kondo a load of family photos last weekend to various family members when we met up for a Diamond Wedding anniversary. Still have to sort the remainder though. It did free up a small plastic basket which is now in my bathroom cupboard holding the various body lotions I've been gifted. Now they're all together I'll work through using them. The plastic basket freed up a lovely vanity case. I'd like to keep it as it was a pressy from DH many years ago - but only if I can re-purpose it sensibly. Suggestions welcome!
Beautiful sunny day here and Metal detector man coming today so fingers crossed. Going to do some work on the boat this afternoon with DS1 before lift in next Saturday. Getting excited now to start the new season and continue my training!

Presumably the vanity case sparks joy but it isn't something you have out all the time? If so then needs to store things you don't access frequently. What about seasonal stuff - eg woollyhats and gloves in summer/swimwear in winter?
If it was mine it would be full of yarn!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0
