KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

On Friday I took a carrier bag of mixed offerings to the CS and now have 4 items in the new bag:D. This morning OH has sat on the floor in front of the CD cupboard and hooked out a big pile of CD's to go out, I did put about 10 back as they were more my taste than his, quite a few copied ones to go into the bin, I used to copy them to play in the office when I worked as I spent a lot of hours there on my own.
Fly the flags please, I have started dusting the sitting room furniture this morning, but I think it will be carried over to tomorrow too, as there are other things that I also want to achieve today, good to have made a start though.:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Odds & sods of junk jewellery waiting to be collected. Spare toaster (from caravan) given to DS1 to see if he likes it - if so he will keep - if not back in my loft. Not really for Justin as I'm hoping to have my kitchen re-vamped so may need if appliances are out of service!
The junk mail from the Sunday newspaper binned - the paper will be used to light the fire when finished.
Found two packets of Kaiserschmarn mix( Austrian/German pancakes) in my cupboard - they will be kondoed tomorrow with some apples from the freezer.
Maddiemay - I've just burned 5 discs to go in my car as my music tastes are much broader than DH!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I never sat down!! one lock n lock led to another, so have spent the afternoon in the shed and now have a mountain of all sizes to kondo. One dd doesn`t want any, if other dd doesn`t get in touch tonight, then they are all off to the hospice shop tomorrow. At a moment in time, I could justify every one of them, now I just feel foolish but hey ho circumstances do change as do needs, got to go with the flow and not fight it0

After my success with kondoing my clothes I have stuttered. I've come to realise I'm simply lazy.
Based on this I have decided that for Lent, I will be giving up my laptop, which should hopefully remove some of the temptation to plop straight down on my but as soon as I get home.
I have downloaded Marie's Kondo app on my phone, and plan to work my way thru some categories during my sabbatical.
My first task will be to battle the books. I doubt I'll get rid of too many, I tend to only buy books as part of a collection. But the bookcase could do with a tidy up, it's become a home for some very unbook like items.

kittie, all my L&Ls come from chazzers, so someone will be very pleased if you donate yours. I use mine a lot and was delighted with them.
Have kondo'd a chunk of money to the optician and will have my new specs in two weeks, whereupon I will kondo the balance owed. Once the new glasses are here, the previously-mentioned shuffling up of the spares will happen.
Other than that, have checked my bank statement and kondo'd some paperwork which was awaiting confirmation that a cheque had cleared, so that's now been shredded/ repurposed for scrap paper, depending on confidentiality.
I forwent the purchase of a secondhand book for £1.99 from a favourite author at the weekend and borrowed it for nothing from the library today. This saved a teeny bit of cash and also saves processing another item out of the home.
All in all, fairly quiet here, a lot of slow kondo-ing (aka reading my books) going on.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Wow, great progress on some difficult items! Releasing all those containers will bring lightness and will, as GQ says, give joy to the finders in the CS. An entire dresser and contents surely wins the prize for biggest immediate change in one room!
Many of you sound like you are surprising yourselves with how much you are achieving?
I certainly feel surprised, even a year on from the adotpion of MK magic!! I still open drawers and cupboards and think 'Wow, that is a massive improvement' I can easily find things, nothing is squashed in, and I am so much less stressed
Not exactly on topic but I am pleased to report that I have Kondo'd a small chicken into 4 meals and a lovely chicken & leek soup. I got it as YS in M&S for......* £1*I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Kondoed my two living room alcove cupboards today - I was keeping boxes for electrical goods that are well-past their guarantee and filling half of my cupboard!!
- tidied, organised and cleaned an old wicker basket full of candles which now looks lovely properly organised and out on display where my hearth will eventually go when we unbrick the fireplace and restore it
- sorted & put gifts I probably won't ever give to c/s from my gift cupboard
- c/s also gets a couple of cushions that are past best but I was clinging to because they match my sofa (that is also past best and needs replaced but can't afford to yet!)
- framed some artwork from a local artist that I bought as prints ages ago in c/s £1 heavy wooden frames (a serious bargain for matching almost-new thick frames!) after receiving new mounts in the post today. Just need to buy chains to hang them from the picture rail tomorrow.
- melted down the remnants of many candles in a cooling-down oven after cooking to make two medium Yankee jars-worth of new candle“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Thanks kboss, I've got the remnants of 2 candles in glass jars in the kitchen wondering what to do to get the wax out so the glasses can be recycled. What sort of temperature is safe to put the glass in?

yes that is me, two years later and my underwear and sock drawers are still pristine, that is just one example and I feel pride in my kitchen, I even get to polish my sinks on most days, not just a quick rinse. I am also proud of managing to give so much stuff away, breaking free from bonds. I still have trouble believing in the fantastic and probably permanent result
I am just back from the cs, many many L&Ls have gone, ok about 50and two very good quality white cotton duvet covers, I don`t need them so let someone else enjoy these things. I have kept large LL boxes as I had a vision of that parkin, beautifully stored. Actually I am going to downsize different boxes in another stage but got to be in the mood. Large 18litre really useful boxes containing vac packed nuts of all types, pulses, dried fruits etc etc all bulk bought in the past and vac packed immediately, so are well preserved and will be used. Slowly slowly will decant from those RU boxes to large LLs. Much neater more accessible and lower storage on shelving units. Definitly a future job as I have had enough MK for now. Need a break or it will be overload

Update on the caravan kondo - got a damp test done yesterday and one area has 40% damp and needs some timbers replacing. it was literally dying in storage.
Will cost a little bit to repair but has told us we are doing the right thing. Trouble is, it is full of stuff...... (tho some of that we might be able to sell with the 'van). Hopefully it will be gone in a month or so.
On a separate note, I do need to buy a couple of items of clothing. One item of knitwear and one or two pairs of trousers...
I am ok for socks for the next many years though as DD (who has size 9 feet ) has decided that all her 'ladies' socks don't fit and are uncomfy and is replacing them all with men's. Mummy can therefore have the womens :T
Given in with chest infection / tonsilitis and am now on the Antibiotics. I have fought for a month or so without, but the time has come to Kondo it.I wanna be in the room where it happens0
