I only turn mine twice a year so it's easy to remember - spin in the spring and flip in the fall
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

It's Friday.. I am cream crackered. Think I have made it worse now as just had a chippy tea and all that stodge means i am now comfy on the settee! However, DD2 had a club tonight which is pointless dropping her off and coming back later as the traffic is horrendous at that time so I stay at the venue having a cup of coffee. It is kind of 'me time' as i use the time to update reports for work, scan my weekly receipts for points and my coffee into another app. Receipts not needed are binned and my bag is all tidy again!

I have made a list for tomorrow. it is a quiet one compared so I am hoping to plough through it and get onto some photos!

    :) Evening all.

Been to work and then walked up to the allotment to harvest some veg (leeks and chard) and check nothing had blown away in yesterday's gales.

Everything where it should be but I had acquired a wendy house (!). It's owner (or their Mum, rather) came by shortly after to retrieve it, one of those moulded plastic jobbies which had been picked up by the wind and moved over a few plots.

Could have been worse; at least it wasn't one of those B@rbie pink monstrosities.:rotfl:

Last night, just before bedtime, I cleared off a small shelf and damp-dusted it. Chief item on there is one of my most favourite things, a hand-turned wooden bowl which I bought from the craftsman at a country show over 25 years ago, and which has never failed to give me joy.

It had become a bit of a catch-all for small misc and was found to be holding; a golf ball, 3 non-working wristwatches, a caribiner-style keyring, a badge, a whistle, half of a broken estucheon plate off a piece of furniture, two valve covers for my pushbike, a ringpull, a small lead weight, a triangle thingy for putting plug chains on plugs and one of those mini 'pill' type batteries.

Oh, and there is something which could be the end of a broom (I don't have a broom) and which I swear I have never seen before. All other things, no matter how bizarre, are explicable to me.

I will shortly be recycling/ rehoming as appropriate.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Ha, ha, GQ, love the list of kipple!
    The bowl sounds very joyous.

My client left me to it today, task was to sort the paperwork mountain into categories for her to check and file. Well, it turned out that the paperwork mountain also contained a lot of kipple. I seperated out a child's puzzle, a key ring, scissors, a shoe horn, more scissors, 2 napkin rings, a pack of tissues, and, wait for it,..... a rock that was painted pink! :rotfl:

I left neat piles of related docs and one pile of catalogues/magazines that were all unopened.
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.
  • Which charity shop is the one to donate "old" (i.e. no longer the right prescription) specs to please?
    Would that be Oxfam?
    Normal people worry me.

Any ideas for old ties? We've got a bagful of my dad's old ties. Mostly silk. Might be good for patchwork (i'm rubbish at it)
  • I have seen skirts made from old ties. I still have ties too, haven`t managed to let them all go yet as they seemed to be worn with the wearers mood, they were my husbands. I should think patchwork would be good greenbee but not for me. I am leaving mine for a bit longer and they don`t take up much space

MK said to sort a category at a time but that does not work for me, I get messy enough when I am sorting one area. Today I think I will start on my untidy tiny snug. I have plenty of storage in there, JL rattan basket units under a low window. My tv is on the wall, a lovely light oak tv unit is below it. A very small bookcase and a large padded pouffe type rectangular storage box, useful as I put my laptop on it and hide things in there. Two large very comfy dark brown fabric chairs from an ercol sale, they were one-off design samples, low arms splayed out and very comfy for knitting or sitting sideways and a couple of small units next to the chairs. All the furniture is useful but I am wanting to make it feel fresher and brighter. I may start with my peru tapestries, a wall hanging and three more covering and protecting my furniture bits. I have lots of balls of wool in this place, knee coverings and grandma cosy crochet blankets for when the children come. I have to start this room, I need to get that joyful feeling when I walk in as I use it a lot. Maybe I will start by taking everything out that can be moved and then re-introduce the MK way. Asking if I get joy or not. It is a daunting task because the things in there are important in one way or another but important and joyful are not necessarily linked. Wish me luck

Kittie does your snug get much natural light? Would painting the walls or maybe reducing the dark brown on the chairs with throws help make it brighter?

Kittie, the snug snug sounds as though it will be delighful once you decide what works best in there. Maybe some beloved items can be joyful if located in a different room (sometimes it is simply a matter of finding their 'home', rather than releasing them to the world).
My 'multipurpose room' is a busy room, tiny but with a lot stored in there and a lot done in there (eg, admin, ironing, crafts, reading, phone convos, DIY) . Since KM I have released quite a few items form the room, but have also stored things *that need storing* much more efficiently.

Further planned weight-loss means i still have too many clothes (not a huge amount, but duplicates in small sizes are biding their time!). Gradually the larger clothes are going and I am looking forward to having more storage space when drawers are freed up. I still revisit clothes on an ad hoc basis and whether they fit or not I do the spark-joy test when the mood takes me and some are not making the cut!
My latest escapade, dabbling in painting, has also brought more items into our very small house but i have confined the art supplies to one large shoulder bag and my craft box, so it is not driving me mad!

I really want to do a serious kondo of one or two categories but time and DH are against me atm! We have 3 family events to attend 2 counties away in the next fortnight, then we go to my parents (hundreds of miles away) for 9 days, and i have taken on more work and social obligations in the last 4 or 5 months, duh.

I am impatient to get more done because the benefits are amazing but i suppose another few weeks won't hurt.

I do have to start working on getting DH to let more things go but that is very difficult. He did release a few clothes last year but anything else he is very resistant with. My only successes are when I can come up with a 'worthy cause' ( a specific charity, or a relative or friend who would benefit from the item).
I may resort to fibbing! Otherwise how will i release the 2 very bulky garden loungers with thick padded cushions that lie on top of the stairhead in our bedroom, that we have not used for at least 3 years???!
I am sure i know someone who he never visits ;) who would love them :rotfl:

For clarity, we have 2 comfortable garden chairs, in the garden!, that i use every week when the weather permits so we can both happily sit outside reading, dining or just looking at the view without the need for Big Clutter in a small house. The bulky chairs are at least 20 y.o. and cost a max of £20 each so no need to regret money spent either!

I am planing the next round of kondo-ing anyway!

    Have a great weekend Everyone!
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.
