KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Good progress kondo-ites. I too have stopped for a break.
So far I have re-arranged the underwear drawer, revealing a fair bit of space which I am hoping to fill with my "round the house" shorts I.e. Baggy old leggings with holes in, which I have cut down and wear for lounging/cleaning.
Bless tsco's, I paid for "with bags" delivery, for which they charge 40p. I have 20!!!! bags to samosa! For reference I only bought about 44 items. Since the 5p bag charge started my samosa pile has reduced, hitting zero last week and I was forced to buy bin liners for the first time in 9 years, £1 for 15! So 40p for 20 bags has made my day!
I'm really in the mood to keep kondoing but I actually owe my employer a few hours work (dratted ME here too) so I must stop procrastinating and do my homework before last thing Sunday night....Jan 20 - NST challenge

The freezer defrosting has meant a lot of scrubbing of shelves and drawers before I can turn it back on . I still have some things to go in the dishwasher and have a load of laundry to do for DD - er - two loads
Will nip out to the shop later for milk, ice cubes etc and will try to sort out another box for my wardrobe. At least I am labelling small boxes as they go into the wardrobe now. DDs approve of the new throw in the living room but eldest is reminding me to hoover and dust (they came an hour early or I would have done a mad dash)
The charity shop is still closed due to flooding a year ago but hope it will open soon as I have a big bag of books to take."This site is addictive!"

I have a huge food store - cupboards just jampacked.Having a tidyout. Like with like all organised into baskets. 3 baskets across on 2 shelves will have them all sorted. The tinfoil and greaseproof rolls all fit between them. Have written little sticky labels to put on the shelves. So proud of myself. I keep opening the doors just to look - how sad is that;)0

so many of you haven`t had any time off but you`ll be like me and ploughing on until finished. I am completely cream crackered, so much for two hours. Have unscrewed and re-positioned dozens of items, I am only wishing that I had had more to throw out.
I am going to re-use the now empty the 18 litre really useful boxes and next week will start moving all the general purpose tools out of the garage into the shed at the back side of my house. Labels really are key for me, I can see through the boxes and so I write a list of contents in black sharpie on paper and pop the list inside. The drills, allen keys all that stuff are moving. The aim is to not have half a workshop in my garage but a full workshop with plenty of space. I want to concentrate much more on wood carving, so my bench, scrollsaw, sharpening stones etc are all much handier. Yes, that is MK because I will be able easier to go back to a hobby that I recently started learning and that I am loving
Just now though, I am aching, my arthritic toe is giving me gyp from kneeling and my right wrist is not good, all that banging and screwing. I`ll have to wear a splint on it tonight, need to preserve every one of my joints. MK is the answer to future ease, putting the effort in now will pay huge dividends
Do you think anyone ever gets finished?

....Even if the bed was the only thing in there, it would be cramped but, of course, my little flat doesn't come equiped with a separate dressing room, so clothes storage and a few other miscellaenous items have to live in there (wally trolley, camping equipment, sewing machine, bow and arrows)
........
Love it!
After yesterday's fabric shedding exercise, I have started slicing up former t-shirts etc into strips for my rag rug. It is boring so I have invested £2.99 in a wooden measuring tool that will make the process far more joyful.
I started the first row using the unused and pristine rug tool I bought about 15 years ago and the hessian that has sat in its shop wrapper for the last two years. It feels good to finally feel the freedom to do things I want, but my goodness, I shall have strong wrists by the end of this rug - or DH will have taken over if my arthritis wins :whistle:I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
That strange list of bedroom contents is gospel truth (I didn't even mention the kelly kettle under the bed). I do have a tiny storage shed elsewhere in the block but they get burgled and I wouldn't have anything very desirable in mine in case someone runs off with it. Most of it's full of bicycle anyway, wrapped in enough chains to satisfy an S&M fan.:p
Funnily enough, I am also rug-making, just finished a row, cut and washed my hair, then came to see what MSE is up to.
Bedroom feels much better now I can stand on the tiny bit of floor alongside the bed - apart from the bit the wally trolley has to stand on but it's a two-wheeler and doesn't take up too much room, thank goodness.
I don't think KM is really ever done, unless your life is completely static and you don't ever acquire or wear out/ want to dispose of anything. If you do stuff, you have materials and create messes when in progress. But we humans are tool-using animals, it's the definining characteristic of the species.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Taken me OVER 2 HOURS to clean and sort the bathroom out today. Its not huge....but does need replacing. A project for the next 12/18 months me thinks. Its a had a good bottoming as my old Nan would have said
I thought we were pretty good at using up stuff before staring something else but things have started to slide. I have put a few small bottles of shampoo and conditioner into my swim/gym bag and will use them up when I visit the gym - gone back to regular sessions rather than finding excuses to not to go. Some body sprays of DD2 I have emptied and recycled the bottles - they have gone off sadly and I have gathered up all the partial used bottles of face wash, shampoo, body wash etc and put them on a prominent shelf to use up. Any new stuff I have put away in the bathroom cupboard for now. Some unopened bottles of B0dy Sh0p toiletries have gone into charity bag. Gifts in Christmas 2015 to DD2 from a friend and she now admits she will never use - vanilla - not a smell I like either!
So over dinner earlier I have informed DD2 and OH that I will not be doing a 2 hour cleaning stint in bathroom AGAIN.....EVER!! I have reminded them of the recycling box for bathroom items that is kept in cupboard - they dont even have to take it down stairs. I will happily do that! Also about where and how towels are kept. To put guards back on razors and keep in cupboard not on any handy shelf or bath side - they will be binned otherwise and that the toilet roll changing fairy has now officially retired and moved to pastures new.........amazing the claims of 'well I always change it'.......... :rotfl:
Right I am off to watch the first part of Endeavour ( will catch the rest later in the week) whilst I sort out laundry upstairs then its everybody in their PJs ready for SherlockBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I have a kelly kettle hidden in the wardrobe along with candles, lighters, tea lights, solar radio and torch and matches
I made sure my gas hob will work even if there is no electricity and have a "magic cooker" that works like a slow cooker but uses no electricity. you just boil up ingredients for 20 minutes and then put in the container and put the lid on and leave for hours.
There is an ornamental throw in the living room which could be used as a blanket, spare duvets etc and another couple of throws packed away. A large thermos jug will keep water hot and fill a hot water bottle.
I remember the 70s and the shortages of sugar, salt, bread and coffee. My Mum asked me to get some salt not knowing of the shortages and I tried half a dozen shops who looked at me as if I were simple and eventually thought laterally and found sea salt in a health food shop. Later Mum asked me where I got the salt as it was the nicest she had ever used.
The same thing happened with candles as I found some in a delicatessen as kosher candles and also in an art and gift shop when people were queuing outside a candle manufacturers for about half a mile long.
I remember trying to make bread in the 70s which had not "proven" and came out of the oven like a brick. Since then I have a bread maker which works very well for for bread and rolls and a soup maker which takes only 25 minutes to make healthy and cheap soup."This site is addictive!"

Some days this thread is the only thing that brightens my day. I've been kondoing for over a year, officially, but have been stalled since last spring with one problem after another including having to store someone's household effects since last spring. They are still here, with no prospect of imminent removal. I do still plod on, and was inspired by yesterday's posters and did an impromptu re-kondo of my bedroom. I don't do things entirely the MK way, as I fold things to fit my drawers, hang up my everyday T shirts and tops and trousers, and I do store my seasonal clothes away in plastic boxes, as there is a marked difference between summer and winter here, and plenty of black dust, and fluff from the warm air central heating. I also keep all my old needlecraft tools and threads all neatly packed in those useful boxes, and spent some minutes this morning just enjoying looking at the rainbow of colours and varieties of types of thread. (I was supposed to be getting some white cotton to repair a cushion pad.) Some of the threads, buttons and tools are older than me, heirlooms, and they kindle a desire to start making things again if I ever find a place to buy fabric. I am a relic of a bygone age0
