KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up
Comments

Hi everyone old and new.
Quite pleased - have managed to KM the 'vase' cupboard WITH DH's help!! (It is in a very awkward place high up, and I have to be very careful). Whittled down quite a bit, a few going to CS, other items re-purposed.
Also started on the craft stash, it will take quite a while one way and another! But at least it has been started.
As ever so good to hear your stories and it keeps me keeping on!
Take care

I think I may be able to persuade Dh that the hulking great combi microwave we were given by a neighbour over 6 years ago can be downgraded to a smaller one. It's a behemoth of a thing that fills the top of the current fridge and I'm sure the lampposts dim when it's running. The new fridge/freezer is anout a foot taller So I don't want to be lifting things in and out about head level. It's about 3cm too short to go under the wall cupboards on the work surface.
My tin opener has disappeared so I need to find where I've kondoed that toSPC~12 ot 124

Hebwood - I had a vase & china pot sort out last year, my local florist was very grateful for them for her arrangments in the shop and for corporate customers who have contracts for flowers. win win!
I've been tidying today so not much kondoing - apart from a load of old credit card paperwork sorted and now to be shredded. I get a 0% for purchases each year and divide all our large annual household bills (insurances, car tax etc) x 12 and pay that amount by standing order as some of our bills all happen in the same month. I've just kept the paperwork that says I've closed the account - the file is very much thinner! I've also kondoed my PC of the cookies and temp files. Not much to show for it but my satisfaction!
Mrs MP - why do men seem to think we can hang on to items that are no longer useful but they have no qualms about replacing tools of their own (well, thats what my DH does!) I now tell him - garage - his, kitchen - mine!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
swithering about getting rid of the following:
breadmaker
juicer
plate / food warmer
Grill / hotplate
I've not used any of the above in at least 2 years. the breadmaker was useful (and lovely) when I made my own soup of a weekend. may have to get back into that..
the hotplate was bought with the dreams of fresh pancakes for breakfast on a Saturday morning...which never came of anything, but would be a lovely family tradition to start....
the plate/food warmer can probably go, same with the juicer.
Forgive me if this info is already on the thread somewhere, but do these type of things sell, do charity shops accept electrical items?Mortgage debt : -£17,000
2019 overpayments : £23,0000 -
I'm happy that I made some progress, as I'm feeling a bit down at the moment. I don't know why, maybe lack of sunshine, lack of iron, just general feeling of bleurgh.
Siebrie I've been feeling just the same, and when I saw your comment I remembered this. Ok, they reckon it's pseudoscience, but the date for this year was Monday 16th January, the date of your post0 -
The 3 ebay parcels are posted and I dropped off the DVDs at the parcel shops. These were a little slower leaving the house than anticipated because i needed to get the boxes.
Most of the cds are now in the drawer where the DVDs were ready for sorting through.
Tonight I need to put some photos on ebay for the next batch of things, there are 2 watchers already so i best get on with it!
I am really struggling with the wii and the games. TBH we have never really used it but this may have been because there has been nowhere to put it or set it up properly, I think it will be something that I revisit.
My clothes are also staring at me again when i open the wardrobe, i did keep a few things i loved if i lost a stone or two. This time they are not laughing and taunting me at the prospect of fitting in them again but more of an encouraging glare of you are doing so well in the house what about us!Don’t put it down - put it away!

it is striking to me how many different ways we all have of staying above water, just imagining to myself, if I didn`t KM, what a tip I would be living in. It really is a wonderful way of getting through the grey days of winter. Tomorrow I will titivate the shed and it will be completely finished and I plan to be in there with radio two on, bet I end up dancing around. I am confident that the labels will ensure that it remains tidy in the future
I feel so satisfied again, even if cream crackered. Going to have a break when the garage is done and will re-tackle the clothes situation early spring0 -

Best of all, when I walk into my kitchen I feel like twirling a la Julie Andrews on top of the hill, because now the bookcase has been moved, there's *so* much space in there :j
It's a great opportunity to kondo - in fact, it's a necessity, because if I *don't* kondo, then just like you say I'd be living in a tip surrounded by things I don't want any more .... amazing stuff. Setting up our houses and our lives to be joyful and happy - lovely!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I've given away all the DVDs to a lady who works in our kitchen, she will watch them and pass them on. I don't have a DVD player and the laptop doesn't always play them, anything I want to watch I'm sure I can find via netflix or amazon.
DD looked through all the CDs and decided she doesn't want any of hers, she doesn't live here anyway. I'll put them with mine and they can go to the charity shop. This digital world is wonderful!
Another thing to go is a jumper that is lovely and cosy but sheds horrible grey dust everywhere, especially in the washing machine.0 -
PollyWollyDoodle wrote: ».......Finally ... Luxort you mentioned a patchwork charity. I think this might help me to deal with my fabric hoard, I mean useful and beautiful collection. Can you post details please?
Mine went to a friend who is involved in a charity overseas. I'm not sure how much she can deal with so could I suggest Project Linus?
