Just a warning - cardboard coffins aren't actually very 'green' because of the manufacturing process. Renewable timber, such as pine, might be better! It's not easy being green - even at the end of your life.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0

Do we now have a use for all those surplus pallets?? Quite fancy a home made coffin with stencilsSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Pooky, thank you for the info on donating to science. I looked up the websites last night and shall contact them over the coming week.
I'm a blood donor, on the bone marrow register ( not been needed yet), and organ donor ( when the time comes). Donating whatever's left so that the next generation of doctors can be trained seems absolutely right for me.

OH is very unsure about organ donation. He fully appreciates the benefit, but is worried that he will be 'helped along' more quickly than necessary if consent is given. He heard horror stories from his sister who volunteered at a hospital many years ago about patients being targeted for their organs. She'd watched way too many Michael Douglas films....0 -
2 of my friends left their body for medical research. Both had unusual diseases so I hope the doctors found something to help their research. The remains are returned about a year later and the funeral is paid for them. One had a funeral service and one didn't. I suppose it depends on what the family wants. I have chosen my hymns but I would rather have a small service around my grave not the full palaver at a church. Well that's me cheered up for the day.
Snow here and very high winds but the sun is out just now.0 -

A place for everything, and everything in its place’
I was watching tv over the Christmas holidays and heard this on some programme, it really resonated with me, and I turned to my husband and said, I’d love for that to apply to our home…..he replied ‘hallelujah’!!!! He then went on to list 4 or 5 areas that was ‘getting to him’…So we started clearing out and organising, and have done quite well so far, but now that we have tackled the bits that was annoying hubby, he’s lost interest and its down to me if I want to apply it to the whole house!
Then I came across this thread, and think its right up my street...if you'll have me!
My plan is to list the areas / items that I need to address…I thought that if I reduced it into manageable categories, I might have more success. And with it being targeted, I’m hoping that the fruits of my labour will be obvious to see and that the house/ I will begin to feel better for it quicker.
Does anyone else get that lovely sense of relief when they’ve finally done something that they’ve been putting off for ages? IE, I sorted my airing cupboard, so now all my towels are neatly folded (in piles according to size!) and all my bedding is organised, folded in complete packages in the corresponding pillowcase. I have kept 5 sets of my most beautiful bedding (for 2 beds) and put everything else to charity. Odd towels got the same treatment. So now when I open my airing cupboards, there is no longer a fear (and very real possibility!) of a towel avalanche, but its calm and organised and I managed to generate a whole new shelf!!!!
Wow , that was longer than I thought, I’ll be back once I’ve sorted out what and when I want to tackleMortgage debt : -£17,000

Hi everyone thanks for the welcome - Here’s what I’ve achieved so far…
Garage - Cleared out so it was completely empty. Bought new racking, storage and flooring from Costco. Hung ladder, bikes and high-dry’s on wall, Recycling area, etc. I now have a garage that I can store things in and I know where to find everything!! Hubby is in particularly proud of this, and even bought a tool chest to organise his stuff! I've even caught him just standing in there smiling!!!
Gumtree – sold all the bulky baby things + a large piece of fitness equipment just before Christmas. The extra space generated, kicked off the garage cleanse!
Tupperware cupboard – cleared out and organised…. Have no idea how I had odd or missing lids! Anything stained or missing a lid / bottom was recycled.
Biscuit / sweet cupboard – was heaving during the holidays! Have cleared out any soft biscuits / half opened bags of things, and have been enjoying de-cluttering the sweets of an evening! Used some of the larger Tupperware to organise and contain sweets / nuts / biscuits. Looks much better, although made Hubby add ‘choc biscuits’ to the shopping list as we were down to one packet!!
Pantry cupboard – organised tins, packets, etc and put anything OOD into the food caddy and recycled packaging. Put anything that needed using up on the counter and am trying to incorporate this into meals.
Toiletries – have squeezed numerous bottles of my almost finished shampoo into one bottle, smells amazing, and I will use this on days I don’t go to work! Recycled anything that had been opened for over a year (sunscreen for that one sunny day last year in Scotland!), and also put several unopened bottles of shampoo, bodywash, deodorant, and conditioner aside and took into work for the foodbank charity box. Now am left with our favourites, and saw what I was running low on!
Office cupboard – partially done. Have sorted through the pile of paperwork and shredded/ recycled the necessary. Now to go through the files, shred old paperwork and file new things. Hoping to improve upon my filing system, just need to give it a think!
Looking at what I’ve achieved in the past 4 weeks, its nuts... I’m using the excuse of recently having a new baby as to why I didn’t do any of this earlier (she’s 16months…how long do you think I can keep using that for?!) JMortgage debt : -£17,000

If the books make me better educated and more aware of the world, if cooking equipment and craft supplies etc help me to make things for others, if the ornaments and stuff make my home a pleasant place and make me contented then they're serving a purpose. They are helping me to be the person I want to be. If they're stuck in storage, unused or making my life harder - then what's the point? They're not going (I hope) to talk about my complete collection of Something or that 'you couldn't turn round in Polly's home without tripping over a cat ornament'!

PWD - yes,yes,yes! Well said :T
OS QS - come on in! It's great to have new contributors. You are doing brilliantly. It is addictive, once you get the hang of KM you definitely want to do more
Have been very busy this week and KM is paying dividends, making life easier because my choices are joyful, easily accessible and limit to manageable numbers :rotfl: :rotfl::rotfl:
3 tops hit the ragbag, thanks to DH's intervention. I am happy to take sun-faded T's with suntan stains for use as cover up on the beach, after all, why ruined new ones? DH said enough was enough and he will replace them. He obviously felt embarassed to be seen with me in them :rotfl:
He did point out that I have had my money's worth out of them - had them *years*!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0
