The girls are just kondoing macd and ice cream. One got a class writers award today and the other had such an awesome parents evening last night that I felt it was important to show them how proud I was by a surprise treat! I also bought a bottle of wine for me to congratulate myself !! The house is cluttered and their stuff needs tidying up which drives me insane but sometimes you have to take a step back and realise what they could be like and count your blessings. [and yes I know I'm not flush with cash but I will juggle the food budget this week as we still have a drawer full of meat and veg in the freezer]

So, back to the real KD... thanks for your thoughts on the car boot or not. I have decided that on the current free shelf that KD freed I will put things that I think will generate cash and will sell. It will only be the shelf though for now, closer to the time it might be bigger but the rest is going. I need to see space so I can move on to next task.

I have also now sampled this concept of when people on this thread say KD frees you up to do other things. We now go the library once a week straight after school, we have tweaked it that I bring a snack and drink for girls, something that we never had time before. DD1 does badges or homework and dd2 does her reading scheme they run for certificates. We don't notice when we get home that we have been out because before we would just have been faffing.
Don’t put it down - put it away!

2 broken electricals to the recycle center along with a car load of cardboard from the recent kitchen installation. Bag of books to CS. Bit of an odd collection but I am counting it as 10 items :) I am hoping for some serious kondoing this weekend - last weekend flew by and RL tripped me up a bit as I didnt get as far as a I wanted. HOWEVER I must finish a RL project this weekend as its a bit of a millstone I have to say.........

Tibawo, congratulations to both your girls - definitely celebration time for you all.

Plastic boxes with lids delivered today which will help tidy the study shelves. Have been wanting to sort these out for aaaages so v happy to be getting on with it. Have found a box belonging to someone else having forgotten that I'd stored it for them during a house move 2 years ago. I wonder if they have missed the contents at all? Will be glad for it to go to release space for me.

Still getting rid of a few things each day so no fast progress but as others have mentioned, Kondoing becomes a way of life.

Pyjamas and a jumper ordered in the sales arrived this week and will go back as not only are they poor quality, they are huge (UK size 8)! I am 5'6" and weigh 9 stone just as I did 30 years ago when I left school, yet seem to have shrunk from size 12 to even smaller than size 8. Hmmmm. Will have to start looking at children's sizes but not sure I can get away with wearing Disney Frozen princess costumes :rotfl:.

    Lots of great progress ladies:beer:

Tibawo - A well deserved celebration, well done the girls, and their Mum:D

oceanspirit - Loved the thought of the Disney Frozen pjs on an adult, but please do not start singing "that song"

OH and I were managing some serious cleaning today and without any comment from him or even pointed looks I found myself volunteering that I had set myself a target of mid-day on Monday to clear all the komono from the bedroom that I use for my clothes/shoes etc, it has either to have found a proper home of it's own or leave the house:eek: Nothing like a deadline to concentrate one's energies!

The manager of the CS I volunteer at has said that she has lots of storage space so I can start taking in all my summer clothes that are too big, or from when I went out to work in as soon as I want to:D

it isn't even the offence thing - his boss / colleagues would likely not even know. it is full of stuff that reads a bit like the Generation game conveyor belt - a barbecue, a drill, a ladies bike, some perfume set thing, fondue set, cuddly toy :rotfl: (Ok, I made the last two up)

I think he will get something and sell it, that's if we get round to selling it.

VJsmum our company also gives our a similar catalogue for long service awards that people feel obliged to choose something from. However, a few years ago someone questioned our HR dept about it as they didn't like anything in the catalogue. It transpired that people could buy anything with the monetary value as long as it was a tangible object - not vouchers or an experience - and if they wanted something more expensive there was the option to contribute the difference in price. Since then I've known people to choose electric guitars, iPads, artwork and not something they didn't want from the catalogue. I know this doesn't get away from the fact of having another thing but if there is something that would bring you or DH joy it may be worthwhile asking if his company has the same approach.

Since I first posted in this group a few weeks ago, I've received the wonderful KM book, read up until the clothing section and started with my drawers. Thus far I have many drawers that make me smile when I open them (underwear, socks, vest tops, gym kit, nightwear) and a wardrobe that looks ordered and filled with clothes I like!

As a result so many bin bags of clothes have left the house and been stored in the PTA room at school awaiting their next Bag 2 School event. More carrier bags have gone to a friend (who was delighted) and the CS.

DH has been amazed and as a result he's even KM'd his sock and underwear drawers (and gone from 3 overflowing drawers to 2 that he can shut and look ordered). He was also amazed by what he discovered - lots of lovely socks he didn't even remember having as they were brand new and buried at the back.

Hopefully I can finish KMing my clothing this weekend (dresses, jackets...) and think about shoes and handbags.

Have a lovely weekend all; keep the posts coming - they are so inspirational to a newbie like me!

Now I know its not KM but I stumbled across this thread this morning from MSE email. I have been getting a bit bored with some other threads and I just found this one amusing:D

Some of us have large debts to contend with as well as de cluttering and this moneysaving thread made me chuckle........and kept me away from the elephant in the room..the big tidy up:o

  • Have made space to practise yoga at home and have been following a 30 day yoga plan (on day 2 so far!) and whilst doing yoga have had a clean under the radiator..Going to continue sorting out the sentimental stuff.
Have lots of things made by my kids that I would like to get together and put in a nice storage box that I will be able to look at.

Also found love letters sent to my hubby which Im frankly embarassed by and wouldnt want anyone else to read. I want to get rid of them but OH doesnt know I found them. Would it be bad of me to get rid of without asking?

Have got several vouchers for christmas and am having a problem spending as I dont want to bring more stuff in the house!

:D Serious woo going on in your home!

Sometimes I think Anoia has taken up residence in my kitchen. She has probably stolen the dining knife I lost several months ago and the veg prep knife I lost since Xmas. Very very annoying, I've even moved appliances and searched the compost Dalek on the allotment but to no avail.

Ach well, they'll resurface in their own sweet time, if we're spared. Or they won't, and I am untroubled by the prospect.

Got a bit of hand-sewing today to finish off the third of the wee crafty things which surfaced as part of the turf-out at Mum's. They were made at the same time as a number of other handcrafts which I sold at fairs, back in the day. These ones were never finished, but I have enough stuff to finish them then off into the donation bag they go.

Convo with Mum yestereve revealed that her Cupboard of Doom needs a turf out and has gone a bit mouldy. I offered to sort it out over Easter and reminded her that I have some leftover Doolux white bathroom anti-mould paint and offered to paint it out for her at the same time. She was genuinely enthused by the prospect. My fingers are twitching at the prospect of getting at that Cupboard - it's big enough to walk into, extends back from their bedroom over the stairwell. There's things in there which haven't seen the light of day since John Majorpaininthea$$ was prime minister................ lemme at 'em.:D

One of the pairs of stored socks which appeared unworn somehow managed to develop a chain of holes over all the toes on both feet after only a few hours wear. They are drying post-laundry and will go in the ragbag. Must have somehow died in storage, which is annoying.

Right, bit more pootling online, haven't been online for days, and then do that handsewing whilst the daylight holds.
