KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I gave a plant holder to the kindergarten to be part of their tombola.
It was an 8 inch metal statue of a christmas pixie, with a wobbly head, spray painted red, white and glitter, standing next to a little red bucket, which holds a life white kalanchoe, which is also spray painted with glitter. It was a gift, and has bothered me ever since. I don't do ornaments like that, and the plant will die within two months, as it is just too dark in our house.
Dd7y was upset that I gave a gift away so quickly, but I explained to her that the joy was already passed; the giver thought about what to give, I received it gratefully, and now that it's bothering me and we will probably never see the giver in our house again, I can pass it on to someone who will appreciate it at the school tombola. I'm only crossing my fingers that dd won't mention it to the giver when they next meet; probably sometime in July. Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -
I only caught the end of the article on This Morning, and was wondering what was going on ! They folded jeans like you get them in fancy shops!! Was the rest of it any good Grunnie ? I was going to try catch up to see if it actually had anything useful.
Been away to nice hotel with dh on Sunday/Monday and had lovely treatments :j
Kondoed some stress!
Work is having some move arounds at the moment, which always proves stressful as they can change our hours and days, also the departments. I know they feel it makes things more efficient. But I've yet to be convinced. All the upheaval always puts people's backs up! Then the work environment isn't happy for weeks as they decide what to do.
Not done much on kondo front, but mostly because everywhere is tidy ! I will revisit some categories though. The garage will always be a problem area though that is reasonably tidy at the moment, as we had a clear up a couple of weeks ago.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Just came across this article on decision making which I thought was interesting. I found it as a link from another article which mentioned that President Obama only wears blue or grey suits so he doesn't have to think about what to wear.
President Obama described an interesting strategy he uses to make his life simpler. “You’ll see I wear only gray or blue suits,” he said. “I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.”

Would appear to be advising to make your Kondo decisions early in the day, or after eating.
I think that is very true.:T
I have a "uniform" and it makes life so much easier. I used to stand in front of my wardrobe flicking through the hangers and not know what to wear, such a waste of time.0 -
It looks like This Morning ripped off Marie Kondos name and brought in some professional de-clutterer who hadn't took the Kondo principles on board at all. Very disappointing.0

I had considered its removal a few times but had never gone through with it even though it didn't bring me joy. I feel the high priestess of tidy sorted that one out for me as the pieces are en route to the dustbin.

:rotfl: I am still annoyed with myself that the kitchen worktop seems to collect clutter - but I guess a lifetime of putting things down on the nearest flat surface isn't going to change overnight! However it's the underneath tidiness that continues to amaze me.
I needed a screwdriver last night. I knew where the toolbox was, and when I opened it the screwdrivers were all in there, and easy to find, not covered in bits of wire and loose rawlplugs. I still skinned one knuckle and made a complete hash of putting up the blind, but at least the tools were handy!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Re the posts on decision making - MK does make this process so much easier. Some years ago I used to work close to a big Hypermarket but I always used the one of the same company that was much smaller nearer to my home even though it was a short detour. I've realised it was because the choice at the HPM was huge and just too much decision making over mundane shopping. Perhaps that's also partly why the likes of Liddly and Aldee are successful too as the product range is much more limited.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
