KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Afternoon all.
Was asked today if I wanted to participate in Secret Santa at work. Said no, it'd involve two things I loathe; shopping and receiving gifts. Makes me sound like a right miserable beyatch, I'm not at all, just can't stand doing jollity to order. Or clutter.
Have just picked up a flyer for a local am dram rendition of A Christmas Carol, which I may well attend. Just call me Mrs Scrooooge.:rotfl:
Just dealing with some paperwork, including ripping my address off the latest Gooo Ooootdoors sales exhortation. Cos it's Black Friday I must have a desperate desire to buy camping equipment and outdoorsy clothing in late November, yes?:p
Actually, no, but I'm easily tempted so won't even look at it, not one tiny peek, too risky.
I will do some filing' of the pilin' paper which is whilin' away its life on the top of my monitor. The top of this CRT monitor functions as a substitute In-tray. I dread eventually moving to a flat-screen as I won't be able to pull this stunt. Technology giveth and taketh away, too.
Keep up the good work, lovely peeps, keep it up. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

That's two things I loathe, Black Friday (what the b*gger has that got to do with the UK?) and Secret Santa. I had a clothing catalogue for OH come through the door on Tuesday saying Black Friday's Here........ not in this house it isn't......... the first place it landed after the doormat was the recycling bin.

I decided to not do advent calendars this year, we have the felt, fill your own variety that the girls have had since they were tiny. Last year they barely got touched as everyone was so busy and DD1 brought hers home from Uni, still full for her Christmas break.
The looks on their faces when I told them I wasn't doing them this year was priceless!!!
I brought them a chocolate one each instead, couldn't cope with the guilt!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

I did buy myself a stocking filler - a mini LED torch. It's cute and I will carry it in my handbag. Occasionally I get carted out to pals' places in the countryside. Have you noticed that not everywhere has streetlights?! Having lived in the city centre for so long, I forgot that was the case and very nearly twisted my ankle on someone's garden path.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers. It's my luxury. It's not worth anyone's while taking the rest of my ironing without the sheets either most of the time, so I use that as the excuse
Now the house is starting to be cleaner, tidier and less dusty I do in theory have clean space to iron in - but I'm very time poor so I know I wouldn't get round to it. My neighbour 2 doors down irons for me and a couple of other people. She needs the money, and I need the time. And she's MUCH better at it than I am
I'm in the other boat - I need the money and my clients need the help. Yester one of my
lovely ladies thanked me profusely for the hour I did (I do work hard and get lots done), and I thanked her for employing me. It is a win-win situation. Also, I treat it is as a workout. So rather than paying gym fees someone pays me to exercise :rotfl: :rotfl:
Today, as well as cleaning I found a set of keys my client had mislaid, mended a doorbell and drove someone to church, oh, and I checked a draft letter over to make sure it made sense and explained a few featrues on their pc that would help them in future. I am told I am good value for money
Kondo'd the parcel of goods I am returning, picked up my new spectacles - much cheaper than prev optician, noticed 20% off at Clarks sooooo ( another sin coming, folks) I bought a pair of my favourite walking shoes and saved £13.* I already have a little space just in recess beside chimney where my shoeboxes are out of sight but easily accessible, so they shall reside there until needed* well, I saved my mum £13 cos she is getting them for me for xmas.
Right, low carb tea to prepare and email to send to Uni friend from, huhhum, 32

Greent, please check the boxes from the garage inside the garage; you don't want to bring mice into your house!
Don't worry, Siebrie- the boxes are being opened in the garage and briefly examined for signs of mouse activity - then brought to the porch (and emptied on the bench under there and then roughly refilled) - and only then brought into the house where the contents will be looked at and decided whether they are for keeping/ going. All items for keeping will be sorted (maybe into new boxes), labelled and then go up into the loft (which is actually above the family room and kitchen rather than at the top of the house
) I have done the boxes of clothes/ uniform - all is ok there :j and the amount being put into loft has reduced as DS2 is going to a different secondary school from DS1 so those items which were specific to DS1's school are being freegled and also I have taken some clothes out for DS3 which he will fit into within the next couple of months, so they can live in a basket on the shelf at the top of his wardrobe
1 item I decided is not fit for passing on so will go to CS for ragbag.
Two items given to foodbank collection yesterday from stash. Small amount of cardboard and paper burned today. OH has been doing some digital decluttering re photos over the past few days - am pleased at that
ON the subject of children at uni and sending things we had to send a cable to DD so I figured I may as well fill a shoebox and get it to the max possible weight for the same money - sent a portable DVD player, dvds, socks and knickers (she was running out of the latter 2 items before needing to do a wash so made sense to send more) - and some sweetsI figured if I was going to have to shell out on the postage I may as well get my money's worth
(the cable wouldn't fit through as a large letter, so it was going to get charged s a parcel anyway) (And I mainly used freebie stamps from the Royal Mail survey thing, so it only cost me pennies to post in reality)
I didn't post her advent calendar - my mum went to visit her and take her shopping a couple of weeks ago - so I sent it with her

Grey Queen, I found that the LED torch I carried in my handbag (cheapy from Maplins) set off shop alarms. One very officious security guard practically arrested me on the spot - because I set off the alarm going IN!
Trouble is, when you realise you are likely to set off the alarm, it's hard not to look shiftyIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

Trouble is, when you realise you are likely to set off the alarm, it's hard not to look shiftyI once set off the alarm exiting a store, which baffled me. The security guard was very kind; it was a library book which triggered the sensor, on the way out but not on the way in.
We waved the book through the scanners and it set things off. Ain't technology wunnerful?:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I had a coat which had a sensor sown into it in case I ever got lost in an avalanche (not likely in any holiday destination I ever go to). That set alarms off in shops. I just used to march through ignoring the alarms and was never challenged as I obviously didn't give off the shifty shoplifter look when the alarms normally go off.Make £2025 in 2025

slinky - having a chuckle at the sensor in your coat as I've just had a coversation with DS1 about putting an app on DH's phone so I can check where he is!! Not that I think he's roaming its just when he's working on the boat for me sometimes there's no - one about & if he had an accident no one would know cos he doesn't always have his phone on him. I was getting concerned last week as he was later than he said but he'd stopped off to see a friend of ours. I'm not really a worry guts but accidents happen when you least expect them!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
